Anakin's bones are empowered by the magic of Hollywood, i.e. The Force.

    And like that...he's gone.

Why are there gigantic flames in space?

    Star Wars physics rule.

Ah yes - Anakin's groin of steel encompasses his entire body, for he is invincible to the power of the splat.

Maybe it was one of Anakin's special stunt doubles? ;)

And how does Padmé fall from a speeding ship onto hard sand dunes and still manage to get up rather easily? Geeze...those two are tough cookies...

That they are Bjork, ahh...you can never get tired of saying your name, ayway, but no, I mean there are many scenes in AOTC that make no sense to our worldy pyhsics, but then agian this is Star Wars, so what else could you expect? I mean Lightsabers and the "force" Its all just apart of a grander plot of movie magic. [face_laugh]

Jumping 100ft is one thing, but falling a km onto a solid object moving at high speed is another. Makes Anakin look completely indestructable.

"Also, he was falling parallel to the ground, which offers a lot more resistance than falling perpendicular to the ground."

Um, I think it's impossible to "fall parallel to the ground", considering gravity pulls us perpendicular to the ground, and we fall when we are pulled by gravity. :p
You can really only move parallel to the ground if you are somehow thrown completely sideways.

How did this guy get to be a mod, anyways? ;) :p

Just like Han Unbreakable Legs Solo?
These movies would be boring if everybody was held to the exact same standards as people here.
Moving a 50 ton starfighter with your mind is one thing. But falling and not dying? Rediculous!

"How could anyone besides a Jedi pilot the speeder bikes through a forest?"

The "Biker Troopers" (Anakin's Angels?) were doing a pretty good job of it. ;)

"In Ep3 we'll probably discover that he can fly like Superman."

Great, instead of being "The Chosen One", he is simply "The One", a la The Matrix. ;)

"Makes Anakin look completely indestructable. "

Agreed. The fall got kinda incredulous after the first 60 seconds. BTW, if he's so prescient, why not simply ride along slowly to intercept Zam at speed, and have him jump across like the old westerns? That would have been more exciting!

The "Biker Troopers" (Anakin's Angels?) were doing a pretty good job of it.

But that's exactly my point. By all logic they should've been dead. Who has the skills to do that? No one. But we have no problem with it because it's a movie. Same with Anakin's freefall.

BTW, if he's so prescient, why not simply ride along slowly to intercept Zam at speed, and have him jump across like the old westerns? That would have been more exciting!

Umm, that's basically the exact same thing except shorter. Plus, Zam could've seen them coming and then darted away if Anakin tried jumping across. And, if he did that, since you're all so concerned with physics, why wouldn't he be blow back by force before he reached her speeder?
If you guys don't like it, fine. Some of you hate just about everything in this movie so oh well. But saying it's impossible and such and such isn't helping your case much when viewed with even the other movies.

" Umm, that's basically the exact same thing except shorter."

Umm, what a nice synopsis of my point. So glad we're saying the same thing. ?[face_plain]

"since you're all so concerned with physics, why wouldn't he be blow back by force before he reached her speeder?"

Because, according to physics, he would still have forward inertia. (By "force", I assume you mean wind resistance?)

" If you guys don't like it, fine. Some of you hate just about everything in this movie so oh well."

Guess that means you won't be visiting this thread anymore? ?[face_plain]

"But saying it's impossible and such and such isn't helping your case much when viewed with even the other movies."

I assume you are talking about someone else, because I didn't make this "case". My point was that the fall took a long time, and it seemed more like "let's watch Anakin fall", rather than "let's see Anakin catch Zam." It was an excessively drawn-out display (on Lucas' part) of the Force.

Next time, if you're going to overgeneralize about people, please do it in response to someone else's post.

How did Luke manage to conveniently fall into one of the tubes in the Cloud City Shaft?

I think he was sucked in.

Yeah, Wicket told Han, Leia, and company that Paploo was flying the speeder bike. But same thing. Paploo, Wicket--both tiny, bear-like beings. :D

Nobody in the star wars saga ever goes splat, everthing floats and moves above the ground, just another of the many things that we love to see.

Umm, what a nice synopsis of my point. So glad we're saying the same thing.

No. What you made it sound like is 'Hey! I've got a way better way to do the scene!' Except, you gave us the eact same thing.

Because, according to physics, he would still have forward inertia. (By "force", I assume you mean wind resistance?)

    1. Yes I meant wind resistance.
    2. He would if there was nothing stopping the inertia. At those speeds there'd be an awful lot of resistance to counteract the intertia I'd imagine. Especially wearing an outfit like Anakin. It would depend greatly on how close they both were to each other and if you got them close enough it wouldn't be as exciting as it would to see the freefall. Or, if you slowed the speeders down enough same effect.

Guess that means you won't be visiting this thread anymore?

Now who's overgeneralizing? Because of the fact that some people hate everything in the PT doesn't mean I should just stop coming to a thread. My point was that it get's silly nitpicking SW physics but some people will find things to bash. Not that I have some hidden basher agenda.

I assume you are talking about someone else, because I didn't make this "case".

Not you specifically no. But, viewing the topic at hand and your knowledge of physics it would appear that you would think the freefall was impossible and thus, rediculous.

My point was that the fall took a long time, and it seemed more like "let's watch Anakin fall", rather than "let's see Anakin catch Zam." It was an excessively drawn-out display (on Lucas' part) of the Force.

If that's how you saw it. Obviously not everybody did and there's no way to gauge how much is too much.

Next time, if you're going to overgeneralize about people, please do it in response to someone else's post.

But why? It's so much fun!
