I think his second was for saving Chewbacca, but I might be mistaken.

I don't think it was for saving Chewie. Saving Chewie got him in big trouble. Court-martialed, even.

LFL has never said exactly how Han got the bloodstripe, but I would assume it was for some major act of heroism.

I forget exactly, but didn't they mention it in the Han Solo trilogy?

According to HS&CSASB, you first you have to understand that Bloodstripes are given out for standing up to your own personal beliefs and creed, even if it means going against the law. It's not given out by the Empire, it is given out by the Corellians, who have their own beliefs and systems. The Empire can't strip someone of bloodstripes either as it is not theirs to give or take away. According to that same book it implies that he got his second-class bloodstripes(gold ones), by saving a Wookiee(presumeably chewbacca).

they are awarded by the corellian govt, otherwise they would of been taken by the imps durning his courtmarshel just like all his other comendations and benifets.

I thought the first one was given by the Corellians while he was serving in the Imperial Navy though. I remember the part about them not being able to take them away.

Well you get second-class bloodstripes first, then you can get first-class bloodstripes later(for most it's awarded posthumously).

So yes he got his second-class already, by saving a Wookiee(most likely chewbacca) while he was serving in the Empire(then he was court martialed for saving Chewbacca by Imperial Law, but they couldn't touch his bloodstripes), he would have gotten his first-class for something else later.

He went to Galaxy of Pants and fell in love with the black leggings with the bloodstripe. (Little did he know, he was in the girls section).

I seem to recall that he got his bloodstripes (both grades) before being court-martialed from the Imperial Navy. Whether it was for rescuing Chewie, I don't know, but I would guess not likely. Also, he had both grades by the time he rescued the children during the Ylesia raid, as there was a reference to the Corellian government not giving him bloodstripes for it due to the fact he already had the award.

I thought he stole them. Thats what I always assumed. Getting the stripes is like getting a medal of honor and (untilm I read those series) I always thought Han'd never do anything like that.

But then they said he was awarded it, so I don't know how he got it, though I tihnk he did get the red ones by stealing....

second-class were for saving the Wookie, according to the HS&CSASB.

It's unknown what he got the first-class for though.

I thought that he got his blood-stripes in A.C. Crispin's triology about Han when the Imperials board the Falcon and help Han return the children he (and Chewie) rescued from Ylesia to Corellia. It was part of the story he made up for the Imps when they boarded the Falcon after Han dumped jabba's load of spice in the Kessel Run. The Imps then "escorted" the Falcon to Corellia, and Han was awarded the blood-stripes.

They couldn't award him his first-class, or second-class bloodstripes at that time because he already had both by that time. They were going to offer him bloodstripes again though until they found out he already had them, LOL.

Really? I remember Myn Donos getting them because of his sniping, not standing up for things like that. And the Diktat didn't seem to reward people for breaking the law, they more seemed to prefer governing with an iron fist.

From what I remember in The Hutt Gambit, Han had the honor of the bloodstripes before he was discharged. While getting drunk in the bar, he was remembering how all his Imperial honors had been stripped away from him, but that he continued to wear the bloodstripes because the Empire couldn't take them away. Hence, I think he had them before he rescued Chewie, and got them for some other reason.

It seems to me the bloodstripes were rewarded for military accomplishments. Han was a great pilot, second only to Fel, so he probably could have earned the bloodstripes during his short Imperial Navy career.

    Maybe.

    Your interpretation is partially off.

It's for standing up to beliefs along with heroic deeds. He got his yellow for heroically saving a Wookie(implied Chewbacca), the red is unknown.

Myn Donos would have had to have been standing up for his beliefs along with doing a heroic deed.

Also IIRC, the Diktat isn't the only one that can hands out Bloodstripes, it can be the corellian people themselves.

It should be noted that the Han Solo & the Corporate Sector Sourcebook was written with Brian Daley's help.

"The following textfile is an excerpt from the transcript of an oral history compiled a few years ago by Professor Emeritus Skynx, at the University of Ruuria. The subject is Alexsandr "Trooper" Badure. A former instructor at the ...Imperial Military Academy, as well as a long-time veteran (his tours of duty included the Twi'lek Spice Conflict, the Corellian Territories Engagements and the Outer Rim Wars).
Corellians have always had reputation of doing things just a little bit differently... That individuality even includes honoring their heroes. It comes from their idea of courage. They don't see it as jumping through hoops with blaster rifles firing at you. They see it as moral conviction. You see, anybody can run over a trench and to take out an enemy position. That, to them, is instinct. It's not anything you can think about -- you never get the time.
The way Corellians see it, it takes more real courage to do something you can contemplate. Especially if it's unpleasant to you personally. Now nobody, or at least very few people, likes seeing strangers come to grief, so it's not a big trade-off to help them out. But, if you're standing up for what you believe in and you know it's gonna hurt, then that's a hero.
While other worlds bestow medals or ribbons to award courage, the Corellians, always a practical people, prefer a no-nonsense approach over shiny bits of ceramic or cloth. Sure they've got good citizenship prizes, but the important one, the real thing, is a special mark so others will always know that they can depend on the person.
What they do is award something they call the Bloodstripe. It's a three-centimeter wide broken stripe of piping sewn on a seam on the trousers.
They have two classes of it. The second class is a broken gold stripe. First Clas is a broken red stripe. It's pretty difficult to get the Second Class to begin with, and the First class is usually posthumous. As I said, it isn't for flashy things, so you can't automatically assume that anyone wearing it is a galactic hero or something. Of course, warfare is just about the hardest thing you can do, so 999 out of every 1,000 are for courage under fire.
You wear it as much as you choose, as often as you like, but it's a commitment. It says, "I stand for something, a code, a belief system, something. And I honor my debts."
Many people take a Corellian Bloodstripe to indicate a high and mighty attigude, like a Jedi Knight or someone from Freedom's Sons. That's wrong. Someone with a Bloodstripe is still human, still makes mistakes, and that Bloodstripe doesn't automatically make him your friend. You don't walk up to a complete stranger with the 'Stripe and suddenly think he or she owes you anything more than the time of day. But it does say they have proven themselves before ... and can do so again.
Now let me tell you about a friend of mine. We go back a long ways. Now he's a fine example to look at...
Corellians like their privacy as well, and he told me how he got his First Class Bloodstripe on condition it not become public knowledge, and I respect that. If you want to know it, you ask him yourself, but I will let on about this: The second one had to do with a Wookie.
Han Solo hasn't chosen to wear the First class in a while. After all, a high profile in his line of work can be deadly, and in the right quarters, a Bloodstripe is about as high profile as it gets. I once heard he almost made the Final Jump after some bounty indentified him by it. Now that he's some famous Rebel, some act surprised he came from such a "lowly" background. Me, I always knew he'd go far.

If I recall correctly, he had the first-class bloodstripes in Han Solo and the Lost Legacy and what's her name asked Trooper how he got them. Seemed like Trooper knew, but he told her to ask Han himself because it was a personal thing. So it seems liekly that Han had them prior to the Han Solo Adventures. Though if he didn't, I'd personally say he earned them for the Star's End incident and the large number of prisoners he helped save from certain death.

That implies the first class bloodstripes were awarded for rescuing Chewie, or perhaps another Wookiee, and would also explain the lack of the red bloodstripes being worn in ESB and RotJ. Thanks for posting that Val.

Your welcome, and my carpel tunnel is acting up now, :p.

    There is another bit when it talks about him saving Chewbacca, it says;

"He was soon court-martialed for doing what was right. He lost a career and gained a Wookiee, whom he saved, as a companion."

He had them by the beginning of The Hutt Gambit, but after The Paradise Snare. Unless he had them in TPS and they weren't mentioned at all.

So the second-class stripe is for saving Chewbacca, and the reason for the first-class stripe has never been given?

"So the second-class stripe is for saving Chewbacca"

Correct, it was for saving a Wookie. I'm not sure but there may have been more details on it within Daley's novels, too.

"and the reason for the first-class stripe has never been given?"

Correct. In Daley's novels Badure says pretty much exactly same thing he did in the sourcebook on the subject.
