There are believed to be certain degrees of canon. Like 2ndQuest said, the highest is the movies. After that, i believe that the readio plays and novelisations take precedence. Them the official LFL canon.

I don't really get it to be honest, it's debating how real one format of fiction is compared to another, but there you go.

So what kind of conflict can they add to the canon for a KOTOR2?

How can KOTOR be canon if Dantooine is destroyed in the game? Last time I watched A new hope the empire searched for the rebel base there.

    Great game though.

I don't believe Dantooine was shown in A New Hope, it was just mentioned by Leia during her interogation aboard the first Death Star as the location of the Rebel base.

Taris was destoryed, in the sense that its urban centers are bombarded into oblivion. Dantooine was destoryed in the same sense. No more sentient beings left on the planet, but native life can still recover after 4000 years.

Yeah, but Tarkin says that the Imperial Scouts searched the remains of and old Rebel Base there. It also features in Rebel Strike and various comics i believe, so KOTOR has definitely messed up.

Apparently the Jedi Order did knot always have such cloes ties to the Republic. I think perhaps this game shows some of the first time this happens, hence the Jedi also becomin "knights" aka soldiers for the Republic. Your character could be one of the very first Jedi Knights if you think about.

KotOR did not messed up. It was canon that the planet Dantooine was once inhabited and the location of the Jedi academy (Jedi Academy trilogy was the first to mention this), but by the original trilogy period it was deserted. The world Dantooine is still there, but just endless plains and oceans, there are no evidence of civilization left after Malak's attack. A world's destruction only come to be associated with the planet's destruction after the "demonstration" by the Death Star under Tarkin's command. Before the raise of the Galatic Empire, when the people of GFFA talks about a world's destuction, such as that of the Taris's or Dantooine's, they meant that the world was Base Alpha Zeroed in the later imperial military lingo. Base Alpha Zero was basically the scorched earth policy.

And there's the fact that the Jedi enclave there only occupied, what?, maybe a few square kilometers of the entire planetary surface, with estates scattered hither, thither, and yon across the landscape. (Rather similar to the Spacer worlds in Asimov's "Robot" novels, in fact. Not that I minded.)

The destruction of the inhabitants of Dantooine would not preclude the founding of a Rebel base there some four millennia later one iota. It's all good.

Also the Jedi were not on Dantoonine for very long. Probably just the immediate years after Ossus was destroyed by the Nova Bomb thing. THe Jedi regrouped there, probably untill it was decided to place the Jedi's most powerfull Jedi Masters on Coruscant. By the time KOTOR rolls along, the Jedi are more or less pulling out of Dantoonine.

Obviously, even after Malak bombed Dantoonine, the planet looked very fertile and I am sure settlers could return to it soon, making a rebel base there reasonable to the Imperial mind.
