How does Obi-wan know Padme's Pregnant?

I think most people agree that Palpatine must have known that Padme was pregnant with Anakin's child/children. However, if Sidious knew Padme was carrying a Force strong child/twins, wouldn't he have planned to kill the children at birth, or at least abduct them and hide them from Vader to train them as Sith later? If he did in fact know about Anakin's kid, you'd think he would be scheming somehow because the child, if raised as a Jedi, would be a threat, as he later surmised.

I know it's not really necessary to include something of this sort in the movie. It's just a thought.

But I do really wonder about what Sidious thinks after the twnis are born. We can assume Sidious knows for a fact that Padme is truly dead. Both he and Vader can sense this with certainty, because, well, she really is dead. Sidious then makes up the lie that Vader directly killed Padme with his force choke. He must know this is a lie, and that Padme died for other reasons. But if he knows Padme is dead - what does he think about the child? He just assumes that the child must have died as well? Isn't it a bit risky to just shrug it off and assume the child/twins died with Padme? Can't he sense their existence? I could buy that he can't "feel" them in the Force for whatever reason, but I can't understand why he wouldn't want to be completely sure that the child really is dead and buried. It seems like a top priority. I know Padme was made to look still pregnant at her funeral, but I would think Sidious would be more clever and desperate to really make sure. If Vader had found the babies fairly soon after Padme's death, it would have been a huge deal because he would immediately realize Sidious lied to him and he would wonder about Padme, bringing up past thoughts. Also Sidious knows that Obi-Wan and Yoda could still be alive and possibly train this child. It just seems a bit risky on Sidious' part to ignore the possiblity that the child is alive.

 

I think that next to Anakin, Obi-Wan is very close to Padme and they both respected and liked each other a lot, that alone can give him insight where even using the Force is not needed to know Padme is pregnant, they seem to be able to read each other very well.

I think he knew all the time that she and Anakin were married, but because he loved them both, he didnt say anything about it and kept quiet.

On a side note, unrelated to this topic: Does anyone else think that Obi-Wan himself may have been attracted to Padme more than just a dear friend, I think he was, but considering that he knew of Anakin's feelings and also that as a very disciplined to the book Jedi, he wouldnt allow such thoughts to go any further, but each time they were together, I can see a very real chemistry between them as well.

 

There is nothing but a friendship between them, and no evidence to suggest otherwise. In the novel there's a few places set up to make Anakin suspicious of their relationship, but it's quite clear that they are only friends and Anakin is being totally irrational.

 

Obi-wan had no feelings for Padme. He just considered her to be a good friend from their time during the Naboo crisis, much of which came after the fact.

 

Captain Panaka ratted them out to Palpatine ... Padme told the medicial droids that she didn't want to know the sex, much less if there was more than one.

Ooooh! What source did this information come from?? (Or is it just personal opinion?)

As to the topic:

Padme really doesn't get that big in this film. In her last scene before the babies are born ... I've seen women pregnant with one baby look much bigger. Most of her clothes hide the pregnancy pretty well.

Except that one outfit she's wearing when Obi comes to see her after the Temple massacre. THAT thing is a big heavy robe that puffs out and makes her look HUGE. Any fat chick'll tell you, some fabrics just don't drape well over big stomachs.

Which makes sense. She's at home alone, she's not planning to go out anywhere or receive visitors (Anakin did tell her to wait, so she's waiting). She just wants to be comfortable, she doesn't care so much how what she's wearing looks. So she puts on this thing that makes her look huge, and when Obi stops in unexpectedly, any doubts he may have had are certainly put to rest.

 

She's like six or seven months pregnant.

 

As to teh source of Panaka ratting them out, i dunno, but i heard it too. But the Padme not wanting to know the sex is in ROTS nevelization, when she refers to theri baby as a girl Anakin askes, "You had the droid spoil the surprise."

Off screen, obviously. Ok. I just thought it was implied that Anakin had a conversation with Palpatine, seeing as how they confided in each other.

That's cause they used a real, fully developed baby and CGI/animatronic for their appearences.

 

Obi-Wan found out about Padme's pregnancy, the moment he went to visit her apartment, while searching for Anakin.

 

I think Obi Wan noticed that she stopped wearing skin tight clothing and leather corsets and started wearing nightgowns and moomoos. Don't need Jedi powers for that! Or maybe because she was constantly craving blue icecream...

 

Palpatine knew because he was the chancellor, they got married in Naboo, his homeplanet, he has complete access to whatever happens there "Officially" (aka, the holyman who married them)

Obiwan knew because I doubt Anakin saying "I'm going to spend the night at Padme's....playing checkers." really fooled Obiwan.


Fact is, everyone knew Anakin was having Jedi nights with Padme, but everyone loved both of them so much they just let it go.
Especially after Obiwan's comment in "Obsession" : "Anakin, every padawan on Coruscant knows where to find you."

I haven't read the star wars novels, but they sound like they have quite a few funny lines in them.

 

Obsession is a specially created short series of clone wars comics (5 issues, dealing with Obi-Wan, Anakin, Grevious, Durge, and Asajj Ventress) that came out fairly close to the films release. I'd highly recommend it, really great character stuff. Looky here.

 

I don't, not for (some of) the characterization, anyway. The plot doesn't make logical sense and Obi-Wan suddenly cares more about redeeming Asajj than he later does for Anakin, despite, you know, being tortured by her for months (or maybe because). The ending is also terribly contrived.

As for how he found out - "movie magic" aside, if she's that close (days? <day?) to delivery of twins, he'd notice . I don't -think- Luke and Leia were months premature...

 

Obi-wan just takes different tactics with Anakin, as opposed to Ventress. Also, he's aware of the fact that it might not work. He tried with Ventress despite what she did, because it is the compassionate thing to do. With Anakin, it was the same thing.

And yes, the twins were a bit premature. She's been pregnant for six months, which was the last time they saw each other. Only a few days pass between the start of the film to the end of it.

 

I doubt that Obi-Wan had been around Padme that much or at all before he had visited her penthouse in ROTS.

 

It could have been that she was just getting fat.

 

Either she looks heavier or he senses Luke and Leia's presence at the same time.

 

He wouldn't be surprised by their being twins. He just realized from her thoughts and noticable gut. She wasn't dressed to hide her condition as she was not expecting Obi-wan.

I watched ROTS 3 days ago, you can clearly see her pregnant tummy coming out of the blue dress. I don't think you had to be a Jedi to see this. Obi-Wan was just stating the obvious.
