She has lavish Coruscant apartments, space yachts, royal cruisers, lake retreats, mansions, beautiful veranda...

just where does she get the credits?? I know she was a Queen but it was only an elected queen and senators don't make that much funds!

Why is this gal so drowning in her riches??

But why would she be so compassionate if she was rich? Rich people are snobbish and greedy and care only for themselves and their money.

About rich people being snooby and emotionless I think that's somewhat a sterotype. People react all kinds of ways even the ones who are wealthy. Some are just compassionate by nature, and look at wealthiness as being a hinderance more then a good thing. But despite that i think Padme must of accumilated her funds through her work for Naboo's government in which she had a part to play in even before being elected at fourteen, and maybe her family has a rich tradition in which her bloodline was entilted to some of the more upscale estates on the planet. As far as her status on Corucant it is well known that Senators are considered upscale citizens of the planet socializing with the upper class, and each one leaved in luxurous places.

She's rich cause lucas wanted her to be. Anakin was the poor one but in the end they both become broke in terms of life consequences.

    Politician -- former planetary Queen!

I'd say she has a life-long Naboo pension plus a hefty expense account as current Galactic Senator.

Too bad her life didn't last long enought to enjoy that (potential) pension!

She makes big bucks by putting wigs on Gungans and pimping them out as nappy headed Gung-hos.[face_laugh]

In the deleted scene from AotC, her family did seem pretty comfortable financially. I'm sure she makes a nice salary, too. But as to how she can afford lavish apartments and ships, I believe it is no different than what we see today in most democratic government. President Bush lives in the White House and flies in Air Force One. He does not own either of them. I believe Padme is living in housing specially made for Galactic Senators and flies ships also provided by Naboo and/or Coruscant.

Politician's salaries are obscene. She would have raked it in while she was in power.

That and a few cosmetics commercials.

I don't really understand their "royalty" cause she didn't come back for another term. That sounds like a politician not a queen.

Better question. If Padme was so rich, why didn't she spend a tad bit of her fortune on freeing the mother of the boy who SAVED HER ENTIRE PLANET!?!? It was the least she and the people of Naboo could have done. She may not have been able to see Anakin, but they could have given him the comfort of knowing his mother was no longer a slave on some backwater hell hole.

There are two types of monarchies in the GFFA. The kind that's by birthright and the kind that's more political based. In the case of the Naboo, they elect their monarchs like we do Presidents. They have a term limit of four years, with the option to run again and if they win, serve four more years. This was used to illustrate the differences between Padme as Queen and Palpatine as Chancellor. She gave up the power, but he kept it as he wanted to be Emperor. A situation can be used to gain more political power via popular vote. Padme was one of the heroes of the Battle of Naboo. So when her two terms were up, the people were willing to ammend the constitution to keep her on longer. Padme said no. Palpatine was allowed to stay in office longer than he should've, because of the growing threat of the Separatists and then the Clone Wars.

The monarchies by birth occur on Alderaan.

Also don't forget we're used to a place where Kings and Queens and politicians represent Countries, or Cities/Constituencies/States etc.

I expect you get paid a lot more if you represent an entire planet ;)

The ROTS novel says that Padme's apartments are actually quite minimal compared to most of the Coruscant elite, of which she is a member. Remember the Senate is increasingly out of touch with the members of the galaxy they represent. Most senators live extremely extravagant and corrupt lifestyles, no doubt payed for by the tax payer in a GFFA. As I say, for a Senator, Padme's lifestlye is supposedly not that extravagant - I wonder what Palpatine's private quarters look like?

The people from Naboo are all rich..at least the humans..they got rich from using cheap labor..the gungans. Basically, they used them to get rich and build their cities. that's why the Gungans hate them.

Do we even know that she was paying for her ships out of her own pocket? Maybe she was provided them as a benefit of her position? Presidents tend to be able to travel in luxury without paying for it out of their own pocket.

Her parents were royalty, obviously just some kid wouldn't be elected Queen of Naboo. Not only was she a queen, but also a Senator.... representating planets and being within the Senate also gives you a certain share of The Republics funds..

But her houses, her security, her lake retreat... everything she has is her own.

Is there any thing to back up the claim that she was of royal descent? I'm not saying she was poor, I mean she obviously had some means of getting into politics. But the monarchy was not hereditary nor is there any suggestion that there were great aristocratic families. Even in the Holy Roman Empire where kings were elected, only a very small number of aristocrats got to vote and the election was for life. The "queen" of Naboo seems more like a president than like any sort of monarchy that you'll learn about in a history class. Thus, you should assume that she was an aristocrat just because real world monarchs tend to be.

Padme's character was never believable to me...I mean what is her motivation?? She is so fair and good and kind, but why? Not like she's had a tragic past or suffered the horrors of poverty or anything....She is not portrayed as the typical politician but noble and loyal and warm...but how and why??
