How Long Would It Take To Die From Burning At The Stake?

I saw the movie The Last of the Mohicans almost 9 years ago, and the scene from the huron village still gets to me. Having watched it again in AP US History, I was wondering how long it would take to die from burning at the stake.

 

Approximately 21 minutes 13 seconds

 

The first time I was burned at the Stake it took me 2 hours but then I got recarinated so Im waiting for the second time. Hopefully it wont take as long as the first. LOL JK

Depends...if you have wet wood you usually die from smoke intoxication and it takes a few minutes but if you have dry wood it would burn you to death and that would be a lot longer and more painful....

 

Probably a few seconds. You'd feel a light burining sensation.

 

in all seriousness, you lose consciousness after about 30 seconds to a minute because of the intense pain. your body basicaly shuts itself down. you might not be actually dead for a while, but you aren't awake after the first minute, so you don't feel it at all after that.

 

You've never felt pain in your sleep?

 

About the same length of time it takes to make toast.

The pain wakes you up or manifests itself as a dream. I used to have sleep apnia (sp?) and I would frequently have dreams where I wasn't breathing.

 

You'll probably be unconscious due to the smoke inhalation before you actually begin to burn. No matter how fast/slow the wood burns, the smoke inhalation will get you first. And once you're unconscious, it doesn't really matter how long it would take, since you're not aware of the fact...

 

I am permanently scarred after watching that scene in that movie 8 years ago. I have not nor will I ever watch that movie again because of that scene. Then I watched the season opener for season 2 of the Shield......and had to endure the same kind of pain as I watched two gang members have gasoline poured all over them and burned.
