Okay I stand corrected as to the numbers in the Arena Battle.

Still, thats like 100 troopers against 1 Jedi.

AOTC...202 Jedi? Only 40 survived in the arena? That's not very good numbers. Where does that come from?

    Traitor Spoiler:

Ganner kills hundreds, if not thousands, of Yuuzhan Vong warriors in the Entrance to the Senate Hall. Of course they weren't attacking en masse. And they weren't using energy weapons. In fact the commander wouldn't use a big weapon to come take Ganner out.

    End Spoiler

I've gotta think that a properly trained Jedi could do the same against Stormtroopers if they're not shooting. But if they're shooting with blasters...?? I guess one lucky shot could do it. Or get the Jedi into a crossfire.

According to your own statement that 40 Jedi survived the Battle of Genosia, out of 202 is very poor. Out of those Jedi were a great many experianced and well trained warriors. Yet they still died.

So how can an experianced and well trained Jedi, alone, be capable of defeating a large number of stormtroopers with blaster rifles? He won't unless that number happens to be a squadron of 7 to 12 men.

TRAITOR SPOILER - HIGHLIGHT TO READ

Ganner was facing Yuuzhan Vong warriors one at a time. Any Jedi can face a stormtrooper one at a time and still win. But if those Yuuzhan Vong decided to attack Ganner in hordes he would have died much sooner than he really did. As a matter of fact, IIRC, around the end they did start attacking him in numbers forcing him to collapse the Senate Chamber ontop of them all.

AND he was also starting to become exhausted. Another factor you must put in the calculation when Jedi fight. They get tired eventually and make more mistakes.

That's what I said, if the Stormtroopers start shooting who knows. I'm perfectly aware of the differing circumstances. I only make the Traitor citation as an example.

Edit: The 202 to 40 statement is not mine. I was questioning where it came from. I don't remember 162 dead Jedi in the Arena during AOTC.

    Traitor spoiler

Ganner collapsed the senate chamber because the Vong were bringing in one of their "ranges". Ganner did fight off more than a thousand Vong, many of which came at him all at once.

Not that this has anything to do with stormtroopers.

Yea you cant compare Stormtroopers and Yuuzhan Vong warriors.

1 Yuuzhan Vong warrior used to be able to hold their own against a single Jedi, and a Stormtrooper could never do that.

Didnt it say in the Revised Core rulebook that Mace Windu was surrounded by 12 Gank Killers all armed with Blasters and that he refused to fight them knowing that even a true Jedi Master could never deflect that many laser blasts at the same time?He instead gave them the chance to give up in peace and they agreed with him, but if he had just stood there and fought he would have gotten himself killed before he could kill them all.

Of course 1 Stormtroopers vs 1 Jedi would result with the Jedi as the winner. But several against 1 Jedi is questionable.

true, true, jedi always have trouble with a lot of blasters pointed at them, but aren't stormtroopers sort of a moot point now, with the vong running around????

Actually a StormTrooper might have an easer time fighting a Yuuzhan Vong warrior than a Jedi Knight would, stormtroopers wear armor and can call for backup if attacked and most importantly they have blasters and can shoot the yuuzhan vong too death from a distance without getting up close and risking injury like many jedi are forced to do,they also tend to patrol in small groups and are fearless in battle, and Yuuzhan Vong are trained to fight with Amphistaffs and Thug Bugs and are very good at dueling or fighting with melee weapons and the jedi are good at dueling too, stormtroopers dont duel with Courter Staffs or throw exploding insects they just attack in groups with heavy blaster weapons and keep attacking until they slaughter their opponents giving them a slight edge.

that is all true but the storm troopers blaster would have problems with the vong armor, and the stormtrooper armor mayhave some problems with the thud bugs and razor bugs, but u are right

    Mastadge-
I agree completely with your Episode 1 idea, but the Jedi were not there to fight a war, their job was to protect the queen.

i know this is delayed, but i just wanted to make a correction

Ganner wasnt tired, there wasnt enough people left to fight him

they attacked in groups, but he took him out because they were slowed down by climbing over bodies

the reason he brought the cieling down was because something like a Rakamat was coming in, and even Ganner cant destroy a Rakamat with nothing but a lightsaber

and i think that a jedi would handle armed Vong as opposed to armed Stormtroopers easier

vong fight hand to hand mostly, and bugs r easy to pick out, if the storm troopers kept their distance, all they'd have to do is fire at the same time, the jedi couldnt pick all of em off

It depends on the Jedi and the situation. I mean I think that one stormtrooper could take a Jedi given the right situation. I mean look how well Jango did against Obi Wan. I know that he wasnt trying to kill Jango, and just capture him, but Jango still brought Obi Wan to the verge of death.

However a Jedi might be able to take on 100, maybe more in the right situation.

that is a great point it depends on the situtation where the jedi is in and what he jedi is trying to do, but then again there is a big differnce between jango and a storm trooper

that is all true but the storm troopers blaster would have problems with the vong armor, and the stormtrooper armor

Of course, when fighting anyone but the heroes of a SWs story, ST are supposed to be pretty accurate. One source says that the helmets contain a targetng computer. There are many weak spots in Vong armor. Arm pits, knees, etc. The armor isn't impervious to multiple blaster shots either, as the Dark Tide duology demonstrated.

Stormtroopers of the old Empire were brainwashed and conditioned to be fearless. Training was harsh, sometimes even cruel. If that one Tales story is ever put into continuity, than we can say it was inhumane. No wonder the ones that survived were good.

With the fall of the Empire, fewer and fewer people joined the Imperial Academy to fill the ranks of the stormtroopers. By the time of Zsinj, Carida was the only Imperial Academy installation left that still had the facilities to train Stormtroopers(according to Cracken's Threat Dossier). As we know, stormies work beter in large groups.

I wonder just how effective Pelleon's stormtroopers would be against the Vong. Is stormtrooper training still as arduous as it was in the old Empire? Do many citizens of the Remnant join up to swell the ranks?

Somehow I doubt that the stormies in the NJO era are as fearless and driven as the ones in the Old Empire were. I doubt the training is as good. They're probaly nothing more than a glorified peacekeeping force now, not fit to be called Stormtroopers.

So yeah, probaly in the NJO era they wouldn't fare well against the Vong. If it were the Old Empire though...

In VotF Luke deflects blaster bolts of two dozen Chiss at the same time (they even had Ysalamiris).
Mara stunned some of them and Luke had some problems - but they survived.
So Luke seems to have beaten the number Mace said to be undeflectable.
    Thoughts?

    It depends.

First, it depends on the Stormtrooper. It was quickly established in EU (even in SotME) that not all STs were of equal skill; TTT showed that most of the Empire's best died at Endor on the Executor. That likely includes STs.

Second, it depends on the Jedi. Not ALL Jedi are fighters. Consider this; Cilghal or Ganner.

Third, the situation. In TTT, in spite of ysalamiri it was Jedi Luke Skywalker who even took out a Chariot; by being smart. Simply put, he chopped a wall down on top of them. Being a Jedi, imo, involves having your eyes wide open to the world around you; a Jedi should always have an exterior item to give them an edge, I feel.

    So, all in all?

    *shrugs*

The Jedi survival statistic there is most likely based on the development of this thread:

    Battle of Geonosis: Jedi Survivors

Basicly, 200 Jedi go to Geonosis (add two for Anakin and Obi-Wan who were already there). At least 100 of those Jedi were in the arena. Many others were participating in other skirmishes nearby (such as the various "Core Ship Raids" intending to knock out droid control systems.).

Now, keep in mind, we only have confirmation of 20 specific Jedi surviving Geonosis- although there are many others that most likely survived but are not yet confirmed.

EDIT- Also, the most common lightsaber form in practice during the prequels is considered a "diplomat" form, and has a less intense focus on battle to allow a Jedi to develop otehr skills that they may need in situations such a snegoiations. As a result, they're less effective in combat and thats why all Jedi who used form VI at Geonosis died.
