Let me drop some knowledge on you about this game I mastered by age 12 and therefore moved on to solving other games.

Checkers is a two-player game played on a square board. The most common variant of checkers is so-called "pool checkers," also called "Spanish pool checkers," played on an checkerboard. While the most widely available sets of checkers consist of black and red boards and pieces, they provide poor visibility, especially for the black pieces on the black squares. In tournament play, the colors of the checkerboard squares usually consist of olive green and buff, where "buff" is a color variously defined as a moderate orange yellow or a light to moderate yellow. The colors of the squares are, however, referred to as "black" and "red." Also in tournament play, the colors of the pieces are red and white instead of red and black.

Checkers on an board is known to be exptime complete (Fraenkel et al. 1978; Robson 1984). Computer checkers programs have now become extremely good (Schaeffer 1997), and a program called Chinook has become the first computer program to win a world championship (University of Alberta Department of Computing Science).

Schroeppel (1972) estimated that there are about 1012 possible positions. However, this disagrees with the estimate of Jon Schaeffer of plausible positions, with 1018 reachable under the rules of the game. Because "solving" checkers may require only the square root of the number of positions in the search space (i.e., 109), there is hope that some day checkers may be solved (i.e., it may be possible to guarantee a win for the first player to move before the game is even started; Dubuque 1996).

    Depending on how they are counted, the number of Eulerian circuits on an checkerboard are either 1, 40, 793, 12800, 193721, ... (Sloane's A006240) or 1, 13, 108, 793, 5611, 39312, ... (Sloane's A006239).

Understsand? Good. I knew you would Ken.[face_mischief]

*Note* If you have ever beaten me at checkers you were either hallucinating or I was toying with you. KTHXBYE!

Chess is superior to Checkers in every possible way, except for the cool reverse jump move of the king.

Chess is far superior. That's why I started playing Chess predominatley over Checkers back then too.
That's why Deep Blue still gets it whipped every year by Garry.

    Except for 97 I think:

In the end, world chess champion Garry Kasparov said he could have beaten the computer. He just wasn't in the mood.

On May 4, he resigned from a game against IBM's Deep Blue computer that later analysis showed could have been played to a draw. Over the next three games, Kasparov could do no better than a draw.

Then yesterday, in the equivalent of a meltdown, the man whom some have called the best player ever resigned from the final, winner-take-all game after just one hour and 19 moves.

Kasparov was a schmuck. :p He's better now. They've descended.

    Master Kaster, I lurv3 u long time.

    Raddy Gasperts, I accept! [face_devil]
