I got stuck in an elevator yesterday

We've been having ungodly winds, in these parts, for the past 36 hours or so. I was awoken out of a sound sleep the night before last, because my apartment building was actually swaying and I initially thought we were having an earthquake.

Anyway, as I was coming back from my lunch break yesterday, the power in our building went out while I was in the parking garage elevator. Yay for claustrophobia! It was pitch black, and all I had was my mobile for a light. Good times.

To make things even more exciting, the emergency phone wasn't working and all the alarm button did was make a buzzing sound as long as I held it down.

So, after some yelling and a panic attack, I figured I should take stock of my life. Where I am, where I should be, all the things I wanted to do, but would never get the chance, etc. But instead, all I could do lament the fact that there was no one in the elevator to turn to and say, "We may not make it out alive, so we might as well....."

Then the lights inside came back on, and after about 30 seconds or so, the elevator went back down to the ground floor.


Worst 5 minutes EVAR. Curse you, WINDPOCALYPSE2006!!11!!

 

You should have climbed out of the top of the elevator, like John McClane in the Die Hard movies!

One of my greatest fears. I hate elevators.

I got stuck in an elevator on a cruise ship once, with a balding Australian guy.
He was great. Dead funny, especially as I freaked out being in such a small space with no way out on a cruise ship!

 

I know how you feel.
We got an elevator where I work and it has got a history of getting stuck. I know a bunch of people that have been stuck in it for quite some time. I got stuck in it once, with five other people, for at least an hour. Someone said that if we don't get out of the elevator I would be the first person to eat.
I try not to take the elevator that much at work anymore.

I had gotten stuck in an elevator once before, in the Space Needle.

That was actually worse since it was crowded with people, and despite knowing about my claustrophobia, my boyfriend kept wrapping his arms around me.

 

He hugged you in a broken down elevator?

I think I'd have been freaking!

Take the stairs, it's better for your cardo and will keep you fit. Plus, you won't have to worry about if you are gonna' die!!!

 

I can't say what I did the last time I got "stuck" in an elevator, it really isn't family-friendly. Needless to say, it was just me and the girlfriend at the time in the elevator (college days).

 

I've had an MRI, and I don't know what's worse-the rhythmic jackhammer-type noises of the MRI machine, or the god awful muzac they pipe through the headphones that don't fit to try and drown out said rhythmic jackhammer-type noises.

 

I had to have a CAT scan this summer. Not fun.

Oh, I have been since then. Thankfully, I'm in shape because it's 9 flights.

It sucks that you were stuck in an elevator. The good thing is that you got out of it.

 

Sometimes my feet get claustraphobic.
And I can't untie my boots fast enough.

 

That's why I wear sandals a lot. Even in the winter.

 

Earlier this year a parking garage elevator downtown fell a story or two while fully loaded with people. Some nasty injuries.

 

Or you could use your lightsaber like in Revenge of the Sith and cut your way out of the elevator.

A HIGH WIND WARNING is in effect for all of western Washington from 2 p.m. Thursday through 10 a.m. Friday. Generally, we're looking at sustained winds of 35-40 mph, with gusts as high as 65 mph.
