I don't hate the Ewoks, but I dislike how they were handled. ROTJ is basically half Jabba and half Ewok. Not much in the way of cool new sights and adventures, if you ask me.

Stormtroopers were sharp enough to wipe out an entire clan of jawas and make it look like sandpeople did it, but they couldn't fend off a bunch of teddy bears with sticks. There's somthing wrong here . . .

I thought that the ewok song at the end of ROTJ was awesome. I was really pissed off when i watched the new ending. I dislike the new music and I really dislike Anakin being changed to Hayden instead of the other old guy. I think George Lucas should have left the movies alone. The ewok song was great.

When I first saw star wars i thought that the ewok were baby wookiees and that the grown up wookiees were eaten by the storm troopers. I love the ewoks.

Thanks for sharing. I wonder, do you hold a similar opinion of Lucas' presentation of the Death Star plans in AOTC?:p

The Ewoks are comparable to the Gungans in "The Phantom Menace", but slightly more palatable. I neither love, nor hate them; they're there, but they do not in any way impede my enjoyment of "Return of the Jedi" - the picture does have its problems, but those matters are unrelated to the furry, "infantized", forest-dwelling critters in question. The theme of a decidedly non-modernistic society of creatures overtaking a technologically advanced army is something that is obviously echoed or paralleled in Episodes I and VI.

The way in which Marquand and Lucas chose to present the Ewoks and their antics on Endor is actually a thinly veiled nod to Robin Hood and his "band of merry men" who reside in Sherwood Forest in Michael Curtiz and William Keighley's 1938 classic, "The Adventures of Robin Hood". Lucas and Marquand's version is of course more expansive and detailed - sort of an exaggerated homage - but the level of slapstick and goofiness in both films is approximately even. Interesting to note, I suppose, although I wouldn't expect the application of such knowledge to drastically alter anyone's viewing experience.

    WHAT! You mean you don't like me!:p

    Don't worry - I like you, Chancellor_Ewok.

Yeah, yeah, I know; few will disagree with you, and then those who do will never hear the end of it. Wrong thread, though.

I think they are were good comic relief for the movie. No, I dont really think they could defeat three squads of storm troopers. Even though they are dumb clones, they are still dumb clones with blasters.

I don't hate the hate the Ewoks so much as I think the movie would have been MUCH better had it been Wookies (as was originally planned) that helped the rebels beat the Imperials.

I disagree. Better Ewoks than Wookiees. Wookiees are too visually imposing and distracting for a film that was focusing more on internal conflict, and it definitely would have displaced the attention of the audience from the human characters. Which is why they fit better into ROTS - there's enough large-scale story and visuals to offeset their elephantine presence.

Yeah, but aren't they two very different situations? The Jawa attack would have been planned, and the storm troopers would have had the advantage over the terrain and with weaponry, as the Jawas wouldn't have seen the slaughter coming. On Endor, the stormtroopers were taken by surprise, and the Ewoks used their personal advantage in being natives of the environment to sneak around and create traps.

Not saying you don't have a point, but there are distinct differences.

Wookies would have been much better then Ewoks, not only would they have led to better (and less cute) action sceens, but it would ahve been believable. Nothing would have been taken away from the human characters, just the "calarvy" would have looked better. Wookies would have been the better way to go.

Why did the stormtroopers go into the forest anyway? Their mission was to apprehend the Rebels and safeguard the shield generator. Running off after little teddy bears with sticks doesn't really seem like a priority.

The troops had blasters. It doesn't matter if the Ewoks had the tactical advantage, all the stormtroopers had to do was create a perimeter around the bunker and fire at will. What were the Ewoks gonna do? Throw sticks at them? That whole battle was written horribly just to make the Ewoks victorious.

Though I agree that Wookies may have been more believable, I liked the Ewoks. I thought they were quite adorable and funny ;)

I loved the ewoks. When i was a kid they were my favorite part of star wars. Lucas no doubt had a spin off in mind when he created them.(who remembers the two ewock movies and the saturday morning hit The ewok and droid adventure) And what was that one ewok's name? Yeah, the leader i think.

To make it realistic Lucas should replace the Ewoks with CG ewoks which are meaner and scarier.(cant be hard) When the ewoks surround the Stormtroopers have a zoom out scene of like a billion ewoks.

I don't hate them...but I could never share the exitement and fanatism some people feel towards them... they DEFINITIVELY aren't cute and sweet, they're funny...but that's pretty much it. Guess they were supposed to add some comic relief to the movie, as the annoying Jar Jar to TPM (but Jar Jar wasn't funny at all)

I guess GL put them in the movie as a catcher for the child-audience...but when I saw it beeing a child, I was completly shocked because of that scene in which an ewok dies! I almost cried! That's not very child-friendly
