Some people are never pleased, I loved the line, one of my favorites of ROTS. How was the ROTS I hate you weaker than the AOTC? Hayden says it with so much power and force he freaking spits, you're insane if you say AOTC little whine of "I hate them" was more powerful than ROTS.

I think that his legs have bin cut off and he has been dipped in lava... so it would be harder to say a full loud angry "I hate you!"

    you know?

cus when I am in pain and or if I am half asleep, and I am angry at someone, my "go away!"

    or my "I hate you"

    sounds really stupid.

I'm not saying I HATED THE LINE! It was a good line. Just not as I expected.

I always laugh at that line. It seems kind of funny to me. I heard about it before the movie even came out and I thought Hayden would do an aweful job with the line. He didn't do as bad of a job as I thought he would do. It's mainly funny because Anakin is spitting. He,he.

I read the "I hate you!" line in the comics adaptation and the novelization before I heard it in the movie. Based on what it looked like in print, I was dreading the line because, after all, who really says "I hate you!" in a serious manner in real life? Hayden Christiansen, however, made a believer out of me: he delivered that crucial line with about as much conviction and pathos as one could muster. The words burned as hot as Mustafar itself.

I read somewhere (don't ask me where as I've jumped around so many places) that they made Hayden do the line so many times that he actually got incredibly angry. I think it was a very effective delivery.

I have never been fond of Hayden's delivery of lines and found myself laughing at odd scences throughout the previous films because of his delivery, but I confess that I was moved by this scene and I thought it was effective. Obi-Wan was great and so was Anakin. There was a lot of mixed emotion in that line. After he says "I hate you!", he catches on fire and then it looks like he is reaching for Obi-Wan who then turns away from him. Anakin says he hates Obi-Wan and yet seconds later he is reaching out to him in desperation. The scene does not make me laugh. It's raw and it's tragic.

It was an awesome line - very to the point and the delivery was just great.
I rewatched the movie last night (alone for the first time) and it still takes a lot out of me. I know, I'm a nerd but it's just true. The movie and the last few scenes with Vader being mortally wounded are just too much. You can literally feel Anakins pain, both emotionally and physically: Even with his insurmountable powers, he cannot compete against Obi-Wan and all he held dear is now lost.

They did several takes of sections of that whole sequence between Obi-Wan and Anakin, and Hayden would stay in character between takes, often rolling around a bit and roaring/groaning and so on to build up some emotion.

Yes, Hayden's a method actor. He tries to stay mentally in character even between takes, to preserve the emotion of the scene. I doubt he was actually annoyed at having to do multiple takes (as that's the reality of filmmaking), but merely remaining in character.

I really liked this line...i think the whole duel was fantastic when it came to the guys delivering their lines..

For me "I hate u" and the Obi Wan line "I have failed u" were just AMAZINGLY delivered =D=

I would have to say the whole lead up to the duel and to the end of te duel, are the best scenes in Star Wars the whole saga.

Well, let's cut off your arm and legs and see if you can say anything that doesn't sound forced. ;)

I'm surprised he was even able to say anything at all...what with the decapatated limbs and the searing heat. Under those conditions, "I Hate You" was about as real as it could get IMO.

When I saw this film the first time, I thought even fanboys would finally be impressed with Hayden's acting because of the delivery of this line. But there is no end to the complaints.

    From the making of book:

After the first complete take, Lucas and McGregor discuss where he should say each line: "As you watch Anakin slide down, how about if you take one step forward," Lucas suggests. "For a moment, you think about it. Your first impulse is to save him- but then you realize you can't."

As the takes multiply and the actors find their rhythm and emotions, the scene becomes more and more powerful. Christensen yells, "I hate you!"

McGregor says, "I love you. But I will not help you." Lucas explains that what Obi-Wan's really saying to Anakin is: "You were our only hope- and you blew it. Now we don't have any hope."

Take. After Anakin implores Obi-Wan to save him, George asks Ewan to say "I will not..." softer, almost to himself. Take. "After he bursts into flames," Lucas directs, "it's as if you're talking to a dead person. To a piece of toast." He suggests, to drive home this point, that McGregor change the words in the script to the past tense, "I loved you."

The actor acquiesces, but points out that his subsequent line would have to change to "But I could not help you." Lucas agrees, and Tenggren alters the script accordingly.

Christiansen groans to get into character, and then gives an emotional delivery of the two lines, "Help me, Master," and "I hate you!"

I thought both 'I hate..' lines in AOTC and ROTS were done very well.

I think thats great, that they made him say it so many times he actually got pissed. Someone said thats actually not true, but it woulda worked for me

And that, in a nutshell, perfectly illustrates why some don't like the prequels.
