I just stole my friend's cigarettes.

A couple years ago he told us, "Don't ever let me start smoking because I know I'd get addicted."
Then over the summer when no one was around to watch, he started smoking. He just left his backpack with me while he went outside to smoke, and we talked about why he smokes and he said "because I have them" and thanked me for being concerned. So I took the pack out and left him one wrapped in a note that said "THIS IS YOUR LAST CIGARETTE."

Bad friend. You're supposed to take all the cigs and replace them with a cigar and leave a note that says. That was your last cigarette. This is your first and last cigar.

 

Good friend with good intentioins, but I gurantee that wont make your friend stop smoking.

He has to really want to quit. Stopping smoking is a really difficult thing to do for a person that wants to stop. Forcing a person who isn't ready to quit yet will not work. It's been a month since I quit, and sometimes I still get cravings. It's one of the hardest things I've done in the past few years.

 

You should steal all his money, too. Then he won't be able to buy more.

 

Your heart's in the right place, I'll grant you that. I hope you have something up your sleeve in case he starts dipping now. A lot of smokers in withdrawal find chewing to be a convenient loophole.

Great intentions, but if he really wants to smoke, it probably won't stop him in the long run. Very creative way to intervene though.

I don't expect it to make him stop altogether. I do expect it to make him stop and think, maybe try not to buy that next pack for as long as possible since he's on a tight budget. And maybe make a concerted effort to stop in the future knowing that he shouldn't.

 

Congrats. Now he's gonna turn to the harder stuff.

 

You ought to smoke them all Dani. That'll really make him think about what he's done; gotten a friend addicted to cigarettes.

 

I've already smoked 3 of them. I can't just throw away perfectly good cigarettes.

I cut down big time.

I see people at work smoking all the time. I only have smokes if I am having a beer.

Back in the day I would have 2 packs a day. Now a pack lasts me a week!

Still a bad habit though.
