I'm re-watching AOTC, and I just noticed this.

"I will do anything you ask."

Anakin says this to Padme during the fireplace scene in AOTC.
    AND
Anakin says this to Palpatine when he pledges himself to the Sith.

How much more dark and disturbing is the fireplace scene in retrospect?
Are we supposed to see Anakin's relationships with Padme and Palpatine as equally corrupt?

To a point, yes. Anakin was willing to do literally anything for those he loves.

That line was related to Padme. In one breath he's telling her how he deeply he feels about her. In the other breath he's selling his soul to the devil in order to prevent Padme from dying. Anakin appears to be a weak man when saying them each time. He's actually showing how frail he is.

It's also a testament to his need for authority. He's been a slave his entire life (whether it be literal or from a certain point of view), and he is unable to make wise decisions on his own. This is apparent in ROTS when he can make his own choices, and he makes the wrong ones.

Ooooh! That's really good -- I had never thought of the slavery connection before! I will have to check out that "slavery" thread in this forum.

Many months ago, in thr ROTS Spoiler forum about how pasme dies, someone posted something VERY interesting about the "i will do anything that you ask" scene. The guy said to look at Padme's necklace and hot it looked exactly like (suited) Vader's arm and hand choking Padme.
I went back and watched, it was sooo darn cool.

    Just wanted to share.

Well I think that Anakin was never really strong enough if he didn't have someone to take care of him in some way.He always nedeed someone to give him a direction or orders to follow or something. He needed his mother and Watto, then Qui-Gon,then Obi-Wan,then Padme and finally Palpatine. It's too bad that he didn't seem to have enough will to decide things for himself, and he always seems to need a lot of support to do the right thing.Like when Obi-Wan leaves somewhere it doesn't take him long to get into trouble.I think that's part of the reason why he ends up following other people's orders for his entire life. He's never really free until in the very end...it's quite sad really.

It's also unusual how Anakin says "What can I do?" and then snaps back with "I will do anything you ask." It is almost as if he wanted Padme to say, "What can you do?"

To further this argument of him needing some sort of authority in his life, although this has nothing to do with the original threadline, we can also see when Padme approaches him in ROTS and he says something to the extent of, "We can now live however we want...join me and we can overthrow Palpatine!" He uses this same logic when confronting Luke in ESB, "Join me and together we can rule the galaxy as Father and Son!"

It is almost like saying that I know what I am doing is wrong, BUT I cannot overthrow him by myself because I am weak and I need someone there telling me what to do. Just a thought

Anakin is completely loyal to his beloved, and will do anything for them.
Does anyone know what the name of the song is that they play when obi-wan delivers the baby luke and rides off into the sunset. Its about 5 seconds before the credits and its not binary sunset.
