If opening an umbrella inside is bad luck...

...then is closing one inside good luck?

Yes, closing one inside gives you the best luck in the whole history of people getting luck and so on and so forth and things of this nature.

 

Obviously not. If closing one inside gave you good luck, then that would automatically cancel out any bad luck you recieved by having it open inside (since it has to be open in the first place in order for you to close it). Therefore, the net luck reaction would be zero, meaning that umbrellas would never be considered an item with any "luck" qualities whatsoever.

Since that's not the case, and opening umbrellas definitely incurs bad luck, then the closing of the umbrella indoors must bring about zero good luck, or such a small amount of good luck that the net luck reaction is still negative.

What if someone else opened the umbrella and you closed it?

 

Opening an umbrella indoors is only considered bad luck because you cant fit it through the door, and will then have to close it again before exiting into the rain.

Therefore, closing an umbrella MUST be good luck, as then you have to take no additional actions before exiting the building.
