George Lucas's suprise announcement that he had sold Lucasfilm and that there would be a New Trilogy was almost a year ago. We also of course learned that there would be spinoffs, and that Disney planned on releasing one Star Wars movie a year.

Assuming Episode VII isn't pushed further back, will we get another announcement of production? Or will they keep this one quieter not to steal VII's thunder?

Episode VII was announced October 30th, JJ was announced February 4th.... Will Disney follow a similar timetable? are the Spinoffs "lesser" works, or will they be pushed with the same emphasis as the ST?

Actually JJ was officially confirmed on January 25th but yes I agree that there should be some announcements concerning the spin-offs soon. A director and a confirmation on the topic of the first one would be nice.

I'd imagine we'd get the director at the beginning of next year.

They may already have a director attached and just haven't made the announcement yet. Say if they're going with the Boba Fett spin-off then it may well have been Joe Johnston that pitched it to Kathleen Kennedy and Disney. I'm sure they had many directors and writers pitching ideas to them. The writer from Variety did confirm that Zack Snyder did pitch the Seven Samurai-inspired spin-off even if it wasn't accepted.

I've actually been thinking about this for weeks. If they follow suit, then we should be hearing something early next year. Probably around the time Ep. VII starts filming. [face_praying]

I believe Kathleen Kennedy said she would like to have JJ do more than Episode VII but nothing's been confirmed yet.

Until EP7's release date is confirmed you won't hear a thing about spin-offs .......

I think they'll try to keep as quiet as possible about the first spin off. Maybe a couple of announcements such as director or actor. But essentially wait for EPVII to happen, then announce the first spin off details while riding on the coat tails of first new installment of the saga.

    Star Wars: Origins

I dont like the sound of that. I think the Director would be more hired gun like insteat one of these who are really passionate to the Project. Brad Ratner or so... i hope im wrong.

Darren Aronofsky would be so cool

If the first spin-off releases in 2016, you can be preety sure that we will get a teaser for it on EPVII. I am fairly sure that JJ will do the trilogy/TV show, since that was what he wanted to do with Trek, but wasn't able to because of licensing. Him converting his Bad Robot offices indicates that he is in for the longhaul...

Each film should have its own director. Better to give them each a distinct look and feel.

Perhaps a Obi-Wan Kenobi western directed by Clint Eastwood. Or a Boba Fett film noir directed by the Coen Brothers.

Though I may have typed 'movies', I didn't mean it to be interpreted as a single director of a
All the spin off movies. It was a faux pas, lol, of course I meant a dream director for each individual spinoff [face_tee_hee]

    That said some good choices

Well, if they imagine the "SW origins" a la Marvel (Thor, Captain America, Iron Man...), I could be fine with that. As long as the cast, the crew, the script is cool.

I'll be happy with any announcements at this point. Let them announce that the mouse droids are returning and I'll be pleased.

Bigger question - how are we going to handle having two SA/NSA at a time, and what are we going to call the spinoff SA/NSA section?

I agree entirely. TPM was arguably the most anticipated movie of all time. Episode 7 should also generate big hype, but a Star Wars film every year seems.....excessive. I worry that by IX people will be getting bored with Star Wars and that the franchise will die as a result.

IMO the spinoffs are vaporware, at least until the ST is over. Just like the live action show.
