Then try to talk to your Swiftie family member about WHY Taylor means so much to them. It really bothers me that my mom especially just laughs off my love of BTS without knowing that they do write about deeper topics like mental health and social issues. Even if Taylor stays surface level (I really don't know, I only have heard her hits) it still might mean something special or lift someone's spirits in a way they need. See @I Are The Internets on the other hand gave BTS a chance and turns out he really likes them. As opposed to my mom he always asks me "what is this song about? Why does it matter to you?"
Her songs are vapid and topical to nothing at all of relevance. Her vapid songs are currently the most popular music in the world. The state of humanity is thus explained.
How about you? Don’t listen to her and generally avoid listening to her or being around people who listen to her. Do you like Taylor Swift (or her music)? Don’t know her well enough to dislike her personally. But hot takes like the ones in the links you posted do make me not like her persona and her fans. Do you dislike her (or her music)? See above Do you not care one way or the other? Big believer of if you don’t care for something to just avoid it or ignore it. I don’t care. The idea that not liking her means a man doesn’t like women or feminism is, obviously, ridiculous and screams of white feminism.
@SuperWatto pay them off if it’s people in your home subjecting you to it. If it’s work, offer baked goods, people would do anything for food in the offices I’ve worked in.
I dunno.... BTS is the most popular GROUP in the world, and their most popular song of all time is a song about the Sewol Ferry tragedy in Korea, the government corruption that allowed it, grief and anger and sorrow at your friends who've passed, with references to Snowpiercer and Ursula Le Guin for instance. They also had an entire concept album inspired by a Herman Hesse novel that got millions to read German lit.... Worldwide they are nearly as popular as Taylor. I think BTS having almost 50 million fans on Twitter and Instagram is a sign that many people do care about more than surface level. I'm obviously biased though. But I also don't think there's necessarily something wrong with people enjoying more fun and vapid music sometimes.
My taste in art is always sophisticated. That's why I watch Disney+ Star Wars shows, like the one about a crime lord who doesn't commit crimes.
Just recently I realized that I hadn't (knowingly) heard a single song by Swift. Seeing as she's apparently the most popular artist in the world I thought I'd give her music a chance, and sat down and listened to few of her songs, and... yeah, I might have heard her before, but I'd never know it. If you have an AI create a generic pop song it'd sound like Swift. There's nothing original or interesting about her music, as far as I can tell. But I don’t hate her or anything. Since I'm apparently incapable of even recognizing her music, I think it's safe to say that I nothing her.
She has the writing abilities of Joni Mitchell and the stage presence of Madonna. Future generations will see her as the female equivalent of a Johnny Cash or an Elvis.
As a person I like her. Her music is not for me. And my office plays all the bad music. I wear headphones often, but sometimes I just need quiet to concentrate and I need to take off my headphones then I get stuck in music hell. Today it's all country and I hate it, hate it hate it. I wouldn't subject anyone to 8+ hours of Hanson music, why do they do this to us?
Yeah I certainly wouldn't make others especially in a work environment listen to my music. Everyone should use headphones only.
It makes sense, all of her music is about airing petty personal grievances for the whole world to hear and because that’s also exactly what all of us use the internet for every day, it really speaks to everyone.
I was listening to some Chicago Public Radio show and they were talking about the fragmentation of monoculture. If what they were saying was correct then theoretically it should be much easier to ignore Taylor Swift today than it would have been to ignore Johnny Cash or Elvis back at the peaks of their respective careers. Maybe that's wrong. I don't know. Same with Marvel movies. It's true they crowd out other movies in megaplexes. But who needs a megaplex? It's no longer a venue that really matters. Marvel is dominating a game that fewer and fewer people are playing. Taylor Swift is the empress of a relatively tiny fragment of pop culture.
The Beatles would never Following a four-hour delay, Swift delivered a 45-song performance than ran until 1:30 in the morning What a woman. Genius, hard work, and devotion.
Yeah that's been the case ever since cable television started being a thing..outside of sporting events, nothing on TV gets high ratings anymore. Same with music, even a lot of #1 songs you'll not have heard of these days. Because we don't HAVE to listen to just the radio and our vinyls. Streaming services have made all this more niche stuff available to us at all times. Like I've said before, BTS are the biggest group in the world... But how many of you can name a song of theirs besides Dynamite or maybe Butter? And the've had 7 number one songs! Being the biggest now is still a big accomplishment, but there will never be another Beatles or Elvis again. Not being an annoying git is depressing?
Well, apparently, I'm a misogynist. That's a significant upgrade from being a child-sacrificing satanist.
I do also admire her incredible dedication to performing. Her concert tour right now is supposed to be amazing. Having just seen my own amazing series of concerts I'm happy.
Also the big music names make more of their fortune from touring, so customer service is important. Taylor Swift's ability to deliver an amazing live show is a big part of her brand, so naturally she wants to keep the customers happy. I'd perform late too if I was grossing $9 million a show.
well I was just thinking that it just adds to that whole feeling that we're all isolating ourselves. I mean don't get me wrong, I hate everyone too, but I try not to show it.
I think you're confusing someone with a deep and abiding love and knowledge of music and a hipster who namedrops Fountains of Wayne like it's some elite indie band
