NIGHTFELL - The Barbarian Princess by NicolasRGiacondino
    [IMG]
"This image was inked as a warm-up of what's been happening on my drawing table for the past few weeks: I'm finishing up a huge graphic novel for OUTLAND Entertainment entintled "Nightfell", which has been years in the making. That'll all change suddenly next year, I reckon [IMG]

Written by the fabulous Jeremiah Tolbert, illustrated by me and colored by BerolEagle, "Nightfell" takes place in a Fantasy realm where its day and night cycles last years on end. And while the day cycles are for the ordinary, everyday living humans on the surface of the earth, the night cycles bring about the rising of the dreaded creatures that live below biding their time to come out and feast. The only thing standing between the residents of Kamteh and the Berunmen are the Corpse Guard; valiant knights and warriors that rise from the dead to fight for the living. Because yes, in this world, the dead resurrect during the night and are the good guys! [IMG]
I've already posted artwork from Nightfell here before, but I had never dedicated a full illustration to Chisa, Barbarian Princess of the Red Maw Claw. She's part of a numerous nomadic warrior tribe that has honored an ages-old deal with the city of Kamteh to provide protection for them in exchange for residence during nightfell. Betrayed by the corrupt High Priest of the city, the barbarians are now faced with the possibility of extermination at the gates of the great city once the creatures rise in the dark.

The very concept of this novel has been amazing to illustrate as you might imagine and something a bit out of the ordinary for me. But I always wanted to do a project in the old Sword&Sorcery realm and this was exactly it. The freedom I was allowed during the creative process was great so I was able to instill some of my own thoughts into this world such as the fact that being a desertic landscape, most of the creatures roaming the earth are insects. Giant at that [IMG] Hence why you won't see many horses or other mammals on Berun, but a LOT of various chitinous creatures.

As usual, I hope you enjoy this one and if you liked the ideas I mentioned above, be on the lookout for when the novel comes out. Your support will be greatly appreciated!"

    Viking and Arab by SteveLeCouilliard
    [IMG]
"My friend Leia Weathington, award-winning author of Bold Riley, tweeted an idea for an adventure story about "a Swedish Viking lady and an Islamic bean-counter lady tearing ass across the continents in the 12th Century". Well I happened to know that Vikings frequently hired themselves out to the Byzantines in Constantinople, which would have put them in direct contact with the Islamic world, and yes Viking women were known to fight, and there is at least one historical account of women fighting with the Varangians (Vikings, Saxons, Danes and Rus in the employ of Byzantium).

The Viking woman is wearing Varangian costume and the Muslim woman is wearing what may be totally inaccurate period costume, but decipherable reference of 12th Century Muslim women is really hard to find."

The Children of Llullaillaco by fresco-child
    [IMG]
"An illustration reimagining three 500-year-old remarkably preserved mummies discovered at Mount Llullaillaco on the border of Chile and Argentina in 1999. They are famously referred to as La Doncella ('The Maiden'), La Niña Del Rayo ('Lightning Girl') and El Niño ('Little Boy').
Selected to participate in an Incan ritual rite known as capacocha, they would have been treated like deities before dying
in their sleep from a mixture of intoxication and the frigid altitude of the volcano. In this painting I have chosen to depict
the children dancing and revelling in the traditional music of the Peruvian pan flute--enjoying their youth in all its bittersweet fullness.

    Destruction of Metsamor by fresco-child
    [IMG]
"Crop of an illustration reimagining the lives of two Armenian women whose 2800-year-old remains were discovered in 2013 by Polish archaeologists from the University of Warsaw unearthing evidence of the destruction and capture of the metallurgy-famous ancient city of Metsamor by Argishti I (reigned 786-764 B.C.). He was the sixth known king of Urartu and the Biblical Kingdom of Ararat in the Armenian Highlands. During his reign, the boundaries of the state expanded to the Caucasus, the area of the modern Armenian capital, Yerevan. Many of his Urartu monuments stand today. The high-tension, Caravaggio-inspired tableau in this painting shows the women reacting to the bright opening of a door and presence of a potential threat offscreen. Holy Mount Ararat stands magnificently in the background. The lower town district, where the women were later found, burns as they attempt to keep calm. With this narrative series focused on recreating and restoring the memory of human remains found on excavation, I hope to do good by them and relate their experiences to those in the present. Death and the Nightingale by fresco-child
    [IMG]
Hans Christian Andersen's (1805-1875), The Nightingale--a beautiful tale of redemption, pity and intense longing.

"The poor Emperor could scarcely breathe; he felt as if something were sitting on his chest; he opened his eyes and saw that it was Death, wearing the Emperor's gold crown and holding in one hand the Imperial sword and in the other the Imperial banner. All around the bed, in the folds of the velvet curtains, were strange faces--some kind, some friendly, some hideous and hateful. They were the emperor's good and evil deeds, clustered about him, as Death sat on his heart..All at once by the window, the sweetest song rang out. It was the living nightingale, sitting on a branch outside..And as she sang, the ghostly faces grew fainter and fainter; the blood began to pulse more strongly through the Emperor's feeble limbs; even Death listened in and said, 'Go on little nightingale, go on!'"
