"Scandinavian (Thulean?) Germanic women from the Pre-Roman Iron Age (4th-1st centuries BC). Done for my series about Pytheas of Massalia, an ancient Greek explorer that reached Northern Europe (Britain and "Thule", which may be the Greek name for the Norwegian fjords) and made it beyond the Arctic Circle (4th century BC). Germanic peoples at the beginning of the Pre-Roman Iron Age still had strong reminiscences from the Nordic Bronze Age, but also La Tène Celtic influences. I included a necklace of Baltic amber beads. Pytheas of Massalia witnessed how the Baltic peoples obtained amber from the sea and traded it."

Ravenloft is gothic horror setting for Dungeons and Dragons role playing game. It was created by Laura and Tracy Hickman as an ultimate haunted castle adventure, in witch players pited their wits with evil vampire Strahd van Zharovich in atempt to foil his evil plans. What made this adventure uniqe is fact that main Boss constantly harrased PCs troughout the adventure and the adventure itself had high replay value becaouse locations of important items and villain main goal were randomly determined each game.

So Ravenloft became such hit among the fans of DnD that eventually bacame campain setting of its own (but I wont get into detailed metaphysic of the setting or I will be here all day): so imagine patchwork world, not unlike medieval europe, and that each state (or domain) of such world is ruled by powerfull evil being, but, each of such domains is also an prison for said evil being from which they can never escape, where they are being constantly tormented by things they desire the most but they can never have (Stahd, for example, strives to be reunited with his true love but each such atempt fails miserably).

Such beings are collectivley called "Darklords", and they come in every shape and sizes: from your typical ghotic horror monsters like: vampires, werewolfs, ghosts and such, to eldritch abominations, undead gods with occasional weirdo, murerer, warlord and psyhopath thrown in between.

So, here is my little tribute (which took me 7 years to finish, but that is story for another time) to my second favorite DnD setting (first is Planescape of course) and its monster mash of monsters.

This was completed as an entry into 's contest featuring his character Centauri.

Centauri is a cloned character that is outfitted with a powerful suit that gives her the ability to fly, shoot energy beams, and other superhuman feats. The contest rules were to imagine a Centauri clone in any type of situation on any type of world. Had the clone become corrupted, did they change due to their environment? The possibilities were endless.

I stuck with the idea of Centauri remaining the hero and assigned to a planet full of natural resources that was being invaded and harvested by Varitech Industries who claimed to have mineral rights to the planet without the consent of the planet's inhabitants. Centauri instantly takes the fight to Varitech Industries by destroying their machines and stopping their plundering of the planet. The local inhabitants are a basic group, have no means of defending themselves, and see Centauri as a goddess sent from above. She refuses to accept their worship as a deity and they offer to grant her the title of protector of their planet. She accepts the honor, dons the ceremonial headdress and necklace given by the inhabitant's chieftains, and becomes a true protector of the people.

It's a vanilla idea but I like the idea of Centauri being the hero.
