    Really nice

"I became a huge fan of Warhammer after playing Total war: Warhammer 2 and started to design my own version of Cathay using bits and pieces of lore available from Games Workshop."

ArtStation - WarHammer Grand Cathay concept art: Monkey King, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The basic premise is The Monkey King, under the influence of Tzeentch has slain the reigning Dragon Emperor of Grand Cathay and is wrecking havoc with his Skaven allies. The remaining royal family led by two of the strongest contender to the throne was successful in driving out the Monkey King but are now openly at war to claim the crown. With Hobgoblin Khan's horde to the west, Hung and Kurgan horseman in the north, Druchii Black Arks in the south and Skaven spewing out of their nest all over the land, the full forces of Chaos prepare for one last breach through the Great Bastion for one last time. The land of Cathay draws near her darkest hour... the empire though now divided must unite, the questions is, under whom?

ArtStation - WarHammer Grand Cathay concept art: Palace Guard, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Palace Guards are the most elite of the Cathayan troops. They are the personal army of the Dragon Emperor and were recruited from the most battle hardened warriors or families of notable military distinction. Though named Palace Guards, they do not simply only guard the imperial palace in Weijin, but are often stationed with key officials or military commanders all over the country acting both as bodyguards and a symbol of the Emperor's presence.
All Palace Guards are trained in the 18 traditional Cathayan martial arts, but their weapon of choice is the heavy halberd 'GuanDao' with which they wield to perfection. There is no greater honor in Cathay than to serve the Dragon Emperor, and as part of his chosen legion the Palace Guards fights with impeccable discipline formation and ferocity and will sooner die than to let the Emperor see them show any weakness.

ArtStation - WarHammer Grand Cathay concept art: Ogre SwordMasters, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Ogres has long had a presence in Cathay living in peace with their Cathayan neighbours in the northern grasslands until their appetite for human flesh earn the ire of the Legendary Dragon Emperor Xen Huong . Prized for their towering physique and unparalleled raw strength, the more intelligent Ogres were recruited into the Grand Imperial Army as elite foot soldiers. By the time the great comet devastated the Ogre homeland, those who were living in Cathay were already there for generations and were thoroughly assimilated into the local culture. They saw their barbaric brethren as a disgrace and desperately tried to distance themselves from their former kin by dressing themselves in the finest silk robes and expensive golden jewelry to blend in. On the battlefield, a Ogre warrior wielding the colossal Cathayan ceremonial long sword that no human can even lift is truly a sight to behold.

ArtStation - WarHammer Grand Cathay concept art: Firelancers, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Imperial Cathay army is well supported by a variety of constructs, beasts and magic that makes gunpowder weapon less essential. That is not to say Cathay abandoned gunpowder weapons completely, but they chose to employ it more as a shock weapon and artilleries to great effect. The Firelance was invented to be one such shock weapons usually deployed in the front lines to dull enemy charge. Forgoing accuracy altogether, the quadruple barreled firelance was designed to deliver maximum carnage in a thunderous flurry of discharge where the successive barrels are automatically lit after each barrel finishes firing. The main drawback however is the massive impact on the barrel often mean it can only fire a couple of rounds before no longer usable. At this point the Firelancer are expected to engage in melee with the large blades and spear point affixed on the lance.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Celestial Dragon, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Celestial Dragons are master in the lore of the Heavens. They can build up crackling electric charge around themselves to unleash it in a devastating chain of lighting, conjure up iceshard blizzard from the clouds, send mighty howling wind blast that slices like a thousand blades, or summon raging tempest in a symphony of merciless rain and lighting. As mankind migrated to Cathay, they began to encroach on dragon territories and the dragons retaliated by razing entire cities to the ground. The imperious patriarch of the Celestial Dragons Xen Han descended from the sunset sky in a golden radiance before the last human city and issued them a ultimatum; bow down and worship the dragons as gods or face complete annihilation. Having little choice but to obey, a covenant between dragon and mankind was sealed forever with the dragon as the overlord. Xen Han would went on to reigned for centuries as the first Dragon Emperor and shaped the very foundation of Cathayan civilization.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Shugengan, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Shugengan mage council was formed after the realm's greatest sorcerers were gathered by the legendary Dragon Emperor Xen Huong - the Divine Punisher to summon the fabled titanic warpstone meteor that destroyed the Ogre homeland. Their goal was to further research in the most advance magical learning in order to defend Cathay from future enemies. Initially only full blooded dragon sorcerers were deemed worthy enough to be admitted into the council, but over time as the council grew, "dragon-blooded" Cathayan were allowed as well. The Cathyan revered the duality that exists in all things; Light and dark, Life and death, order and chaos... With the advent of the dragons as the top ruling class, this has been incorporated into their beliefs with the Heavens above all guiding everything in motion.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Emperor' Shadow, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Emperor's Shadow is the dreaded secret police of Grand Cathay having the authority to arrest, interrogate and execute anyone without trial. Originally created to spy on court official to keep corruption and rebellion in check, they gradually evolved into a massive spy network and death squad of the Emperor. In times of a righteous emperor, they are the eyes and ears that keeps the empire safe, but in times of a weak emperor, the organization often became pawns of rivaling officials in their political schemes. They are experts in the arts of stealth and assassination and were the original teachers of the Art of Silent Death to Clan Eshin, though they never revealed their prized technique of the flying guillotine to the Skavens. Said to be able to decapitate victims swiftly from the shadows, few has ever seen it in action, none have lived to tell the tale. The mysterious weapon is the subject of myth and legends even to Cathayans.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Terracotta Automatons, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The development of automated constructs was the unintended result to Cathay's failed search for immortality. After generations of research it was thought that although the soul is theorized to linger after death, no magic can prolong the integrity of the body without compromising the mind. Instead, the sorcerers of Cathay devised a method to separate the soul from the body and recombined it into a new mechanical host. However, the extracted soul could not retain any of the original individuality, but it could be used as a power source to drive the automaton body. The technology was adapted into the military as the Terracotta Automatons and eventually spawned The Divine Machinery Corps responsible for the construction, maintenance and soul collection needed to combat the endless enemies of Cathay. As front line "meat shield", they can also be ordered to pile their bodies on top of each other then rigged to explode causing massive damage and forming a wall of the construct's bodies.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Bannermen, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Imperial military of Cathay is primarily divided into two components, the professional standing army comprised of extremely specialized troops, and the Bannermen militia. As a agrarian society, Cathay sought to feed her large population and defend the boarders through the Garrison Farm system in which every farmer is also a soldier. Under this system, peasants were assigned plots of land to farm in return for one third of his harvest as taxes. Unlike the hapless peasant mob of Bretonnia, these militia are semi-professional soldiers who are required to report for training at the prefecture capital for one month every four months on a rotation system. During active duty, they are organized into different regiment of banners according to their prefecture and are oath-sworn to their commander and the Dragon Emperor.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Stone Guardians, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Stone Guardians are constructs built in the image of the now extinct Dire Lions of Cathay. The original Dire Lions were monstrous horse size beast renowned for their extraordinary ferocity and violent temperament, but were eventually hunted to extinction for their perceived medicinal value and a prove of valor. These Stone Guardians are exceptionally well crafted and decorative compared to the mass produced Terracotta Automatons and are often used to guard noble's residences and temple entrance. Though not as commonly used in the military due to their high cost, it can still be occasionally seen in small retinue as fear inducing line breakers or mounted by elite cavalrymen and commanders. On the battlefield, they are a formidable force with several tonnes worth of heavy stones that are almost impenetrable to normal weapons, spiral spikes on their head for ramming and enormous claws than can easily shred lighter armored foes.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Iron Pagoda, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
While the armies of Cathay generally favors light to medium armor in response to many of her highly mobile enemies like the Hobgoblins and Hung horsemen, sometimes a more brute force approach is needed against the likes of the warriors of Chaos who are covered in sophisticated plate armor. The Iron Pagoda was Cathay's answer to heavily armored foe with their own equally heavily armored warriors. Designed to be a unstoppable mounted fortress, they are covered in thousands of overlapping iron plates and rides the fearsome Stone Guardian to battle. To combat heavy armor which bladed weapons are often ineffective against, the Iron Pagoda wields the sword breakers; a pair of solid iron rods with a hexagonal cross section and sharp corners built for maximum blunt, precise damage that can easily bend swords, break spears or crush the thickest armor in a single blow. The shape of these weapons somewhat resemble the towering pagodas of Cathay from which the Iron Pagoda derived their name.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Celestial Monk, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Celestial Monks are the custodian to The Order of Celestial Enlightenment, Cathay's official state religion of ancestral and Dragon worship. Founded by the first Dragon Emperor Xen Han when he subjugated all the human tribes in Cathay millenniums ago, the cult of Dragon worshipping has become more sophisticated as ages past into its current form. Forgoing the art of astormancy, these monks strive to commune and attune closer to the dragon gods through vigorous mediation in the form of physical training that pushes the limit of the human body. They believed that by conditioning their mind and body through these exercise to peak form, they would be one step closer to the dragons lords which they worship. Their martial prowess are legendary, rumored to be able to move at a speed which the eyes cannot see or even kill by the mere touch of a finger.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Qilin, Cobol Yu[IMG]
The Qilin are close cousin to the Celestial Dragons that has been warped by the Winds of Magic in Cathay eons ago. They are descendants from the various dragon flights that inhabited Cathay and took on a different evolutionary path. The different lineages of Qilin can command their respective schools of magic with the most common being storm, fire and frost. They are believed to be creatures of exceptional intelligence and benevolence that will occasionally answer the call of powerful heroes in times of dire needs. On the battlefield, they allow those whom they deem worthy to ride them into battle and imbuing the rider with their magical enchantment that unlocks their full potential and unleashes powerful abilities they might not otherwise be able to perform. The sight of a distinguished champion mounted on a Qilin, whether it be brimming with cracking lighting, smouldering flames or an aura of chilling frost inspires his fellow men with the promise of a glorious victory.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Dragon Lord, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
Cathay is organized into numerous prefectures each administrated by a Dragon Lord; a military governor responsible for maintaining their own armies, collect taxes and carry out any imperial decree from the capital of Weijin. In an effort to procure the Cathay's golden ideal of a Scholar Warrior, the capital host a grand examination yearly on civil governance, martial arts or sorcery, and military tactics where the top aspirants are offered a office in the imperial court. It would take years for the most talented, well connected and cunning officials to eventually claw their way to the top and earn the distinguished office of a Dragon Lord. The great political games continues among the Dragon Lords as they seek to strengthen their domain and curry the favor of the Emperor while sabotaging their rivals. The various cliques that formed has been a long standing issue plaguing Cathay that have led to massive civil wars several times throughout history.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Onyx Crowmen, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The cult of Tzeentch has infiltrated Cathay hundredths of years ago disguised as The Temple of Chi'an Chi; a secretive society of esoteric knowledge amongst the upper echelon of Cathay society. In order to fully infiltrate the Cathyan bureaucracy and earn their trust, the cult would often lend aid to the imperial army by offering their temple guardians, the Onyx Crowmens to aid in the war effort. As much as a specimen of art as war-machines, their bodies are constructed from the highest quality of onyx fastened with gold and copper frame. The Crownmen stands apart from other Cathayan constructs in that they are further imbued with magical enchantment allowing them to soar swiftly in the air with large bladed steel wings. In battle, they swoop down to rip the battle lines to shreds with their scythe-like wings or carrying off any unfortunate victims and drop them to their doom.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Black Sky, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Black Sky are the one of the two dedicated missile regiment in the main Cathayan army, so aptly named for the amount and density of their volleys that are described to block the very sunlight and darkens the sky with endless hail of arrows. Under the Military Farm system, all recruits in the Bannermen militia received training in swords, spears and bow, but only those that shows a natural aptitude for the art of archery are further inducted into the ranks of Black Sky where they continue to hone their skills. The smaller size of the Cathayan bow makes it more portable on campaign through all sorts of different terrains while the recurved design allows the archer to deliver a fast and powerful shot. Since Cathay lacked a strong cavalry division the Black Sky are imperative to their military success by softening up the enemy's front line or pick off routing units.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Great Bastion Sentinels, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Great Bastion, also known as the Dragon's Spine is the impenetrable fortress wall in the northern border of Cathay. The wall is a quarter of a mile high spanning league upon league across the border and is the first line of defense protecting Cathay from the marauding northern tribes and forces of Chaos for centuries. For all the marvel of the Dragon's Spine, it is but simply bricks and mortar without the tens of thousands of fearless soldiers garrisoned that keep the defense system effective. While there are different regiments of troop that rotate their service to the wall, the Great Bastion Sentinels are permanently stationed there in the frigid boarders with their family living only a close distance away. Armed with spiked shields and one handed axe, the heavy armored Sentinels are experts in defensive formations. Facing harsh living condition and a ever present Chaos threat, they are the bulwark against the annihilation of their loved ones right behind the Great Bastion.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Hill Tribesmen, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
Over a hundredth clans dwelling in the southern mountainous region of Cathay collectively makes up the Maoyue tribe which the people of Cathay colloquially refer to as Hill tribesmen. Due to the far distance of their domain from the Dragon Emperor's center of power and isolated geography, the Maoyue remained relatively independent throughout millennia of Cathayan rule and managed to retain much of their ancestral customs that is distinctly different from the rest of Cathay. The Maoyue are a matriarchal society and are most well known for their vibrant colored clothing and expert silver craftsmanship. They safeguard the southern boarders against the Snakemen of Khuresh who regularly launch raids into Cathay to take slaves for their sinister blood rituals. The dangling metals hanging on their armor are blessed by their priestess and creates a wind chime like sounds with the ability to charm the Snakemen in battle as the Maoyue warriors fires with their powerful triple-prod crossbow.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Cathayan Vanguard, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
Cathay lost access to some of the best grassland and horse stock of the Eastern realm after summoning the warpstone meteor that annihilated the Ogre's homeland . This unforeseen outcome stunned Cathay's cavalry development forcing them to adapt to more infantry and constructs. However, the imperial army is not completely without cavalry and they still have a sizable contingent of horses in its arsenal for selected troops. The Vanguard are the dedicated cavalry corp comprised of some of the best riders and lancers the nation can muster. Unlike the knights of the west who are often noblemen, the Cathayan Vanguards are usually mere commoners who have rose above the ranks of Bannermen and proven their worth as skilled soldiers. They are responsible for everything from reconnaissance, shock charges and picking off routing enemies. They do this to great effect with the serpent lance designed to slither through flesh and lock enemy's weapon should a pitch melee occur.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Cho Ku Nu Militia , Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
Under the Military Farm system, all recruits in the Bannermen militia received training in swords, spears and bow. While those who shows promise in archery are induced into the Black Sky and those are proficient in melee combat stay in the main Bannermen corp, there are always men who are gifted in neither. Fortunately (or unfortunately for them), there is still has a place for them in the Cho Ku Nu Militia regiment. While the repeater crossbow does not have a particularly strong draw or range, its true strength lies in the extremely rapid discharge and simplicity to use that can turn an average peasant into a murder machine with minimal training. Although the troop quality is generally low and suffer from low morale, it doesn't make them any less deadly. Due to the relatively poor accuracy and low puncturing power of the Cho Ku Nu, they are not very effective against heavily armored opponents and are usually used with poisoned bolts to improve its lethality.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Monkey Warriors, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
Unlike the beastman of the West, the Monkeymen were not descendants of ancient humans twisted by Chaos, but were instead local fauna warped by the Winds of Magic into gaining some degree of sentient. Over the centuries the monkey man learned from their human counterparts and established their own primitive civilization deep in the jungles of Cathay. Being inquisitive by nature, many Monkeymen who are discontent with simply staying in their jungle home ended up joining the the Cathayan army in search of adventure and wealth. These Monkey Warriors are expert forest combatants and in battle they wear their traditional lacquered rattan armor that are surprisingly resistant to damage though it tend to catch on fire easily especially since they are covered in fur... Despite being relatively small in stature, their animalistic instinct allows them to moves through the battlefield quickly and attack in a frenzy with heavy garlic shaped twin maces.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Bronze Dragon Cannon, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
Although Cathay had a head start in gunpowder technology compared to other human nations, their development became somewhat stagnant due to the types of warfare in the East. The powerful, yet slow to reload and often inaccurate early gunpowder weapons proved ineffective on the field against the lighting speed of Goblin wolf-riders and Hung horsemen. In the wake of more sophisticated trade route and contact with other nations of the world, the state of decay in Cathay's gunpowder technology would become apparent and eventually encouraged Cathay to adapt advance cannon designs from the West obtained through the Ivory Road. The Bronze Dragon Cannon is one such weapon, having been heavily modified to suit the circumstance of local warfare. These ornate, snarling-mouthed bronze cannons mounted on a gun carriage are smaller and lighter than their original western counterpart allowing them to maneuver quickly on the battlefield.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Cathayan Commander, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Commanders serves as ground general that leads the imperial army and formulate battle tactics on the field. They are generally excellent combatants who have either received some of the best education in martial arts and tactics or have decades of experience raising through the ranks in the army. However, their true strength lies in their intimate knowledge of military strategies and philosophy gained through intense studies or the brutal trials on the battlefield. Rather than charging deep into enemies line, most Commanders prefer holding their ground in a disciplined formation while soften the enemies up with missile and artillery and let the weaken enemy comes to them. A number of Cathayan troops are also armed with both melee and missile weapons to adapt to the changing ebbs and flow of the battlefield. A Commander that can fully utilize the strength of their troops while exploiting the enemies' weakness is the golden standard of a Cathayan general.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Celestial Battle Fortress, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Dragon Turtles are the largest and most heavily armored creatures in Cathay, protected by a extremely tough bony shell with scales that covers most of its body and thick leathery skin. Unlike their distant cousins, the Celestial Dragons and Qilin who are highly intelligent creatures wielding immense magical powers, the Dragon turtles has lost all the magical affinity of its draconic ancestry and devolved into a feral state. They are used as a mobile artillery battle station in war harnessed with three platform manned by a small platoon of Firelancers and equipped with two bronze cannons each side pavilions for breaching city walls while the main platform housed the Divine lance Battery. Although similar in appearance to the Empire's Helstorm Rocket Battery that was inspired by Cathayan fireworks, the Divine lance Battery functions more as a cluster of iron ballista bolts with black powder rocket motor attached to its shaft and a incendiary warhead.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cahtay concept art: Xen Ming, Dragon Emperor, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
Xen Ming is the fourth son to a minor consort of the late Dragon Emperor Xen Song. Knowing that he has almost no claim to the throne, he spend most of his early days living the opulent court life in a drunken stupor without any interest in politics. He was eventually falsely accused in a Chaos worshiping scandal and demoted as a Dragon Lord in the desolate frontier city of Wuping. His initial management of the city was a disaster and it was almost overran in a marauder raid if not for the brave defense of the garrisoned army. The experience deeply humbled the conceited prince who vowed to changes his ways. By employing and learning from capable advisors, he transformed the forsaken city into one of the busiest station along the Ivory Road. Not satisfied with simply keeping Wuping safe, Xen Ming looked to pacify the north once and for all by actively leading campaigns across the Great Bastion and fostering a deeply xenophobic attitude towards all outsiders.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cathay concept art: Xen Tang, Dragon Emperor, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
Xen Tang is the second in line to the throne and his entire life has been locked in a battle of succession to depose the Crown prince and claim the Dragon throne one day. An extremely talented and egotistical prince, Xen Tang was a prodigy excelling in both the art of statecraft and magic. Aside from the natural affinity to the lore of Heavens that all Celestial dragons posses, he was also exceptionally adapted in the school of Death. Holding the same air of arrogance that many dragon nobles shared in their superiority to their human subjects, Xen Tang has a special interest in automaton technology with the opinion that these mindless constructs would make more effective tools than mere humans. He became the leader of the Shugengan mage council due to his magical mastery and slowly build up his base of operation in Southern Cathay through sophisticated trade network, amassing vast wealth to facilitate his political activities and secret construction of his private automaton army.

ArtStation - Warhammer Grand Cathay concept art: Brass Titan, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Brass Titans are colossal war machines that stands as a monuments to Cathay`s wealth and construct technological achievement.
Sima Jie`s original technique of soul powered constructs involved a complicated ritual of harvesting souls from live or dead subjects combined with gunpowder as a catalyst to produce a near perpetual source of energy to power the automatons. In a larger vassal such as the Brass Titans that can hold almost a whole village worth of souls, the technique is further enhanced to allow the construct to direct this energy into their weapon igniting it into a fiery blaze. Each swing from their fearsome guandao glaive can scorch the enemy ranks in a infernal arc with overwhelming might. The vast amount of raw material, craftsmanship and souls needed for the construction of a single titan can be equivalent to several years worth of the state`s tax revenue, and as such, only a handful of Brass Titans has ever been constructed.

ArtStation - Warhammer Jade Blooded concept art: JiangShi SilkLord, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
In 1597IC, Prince Xen ha Feng was sent to a diplomatic mission to Lahmia. During his visit, he was offered the Elixir of Life from Queen Neferata that turned him into the first of the Jade Blooded. Shortly after returning to Cathay, Prince Xen instigated a large scale rebellion in a bid for succession that ended in failure and escaped to the semi-vassal state of Han Kou in the north eastern peninsula. The JiangShi Silklords are the inner ring of the Court of the Jade blooded. Most of the Silklord are either a part of, or directly sired by the original emissary of Prince Xen to Lahmia. Their numbers of few, but are amongst the most powerful of the Jade-Blooded hierarchy. Their extreme age and unique bloodline affliction has render most of these vampires lords rather fragile though that doesn't make them any less deadly. Having centuries to hone their unholy crafts, no one in the Eastern lands can rival their mastery in the art of necromancy and Jade blooded charms magic. Although all Silklords have once swore an allegiance to Prince Xen in his goal to capture the Dragon Throne, their enthusiasm waned as centuries have passed since the failed rebellion until it was but a half faded memory. What took place instead was inter-faction rivalry that has escalated into a never ending cycle of aggression and reprisal that consumes each Silklords' undivided attention. These conflict may have initially started as legitimate discourse on how to rebuild their strength in Han Kou, but eventually it has devolved into petty squabbling that no one remembers the origin anymore. As shifting alliances form and disintegrate, even Prince Xen is powerless to rein in all the Silklords that has now established their own courts and agents all over Cathay.

ArtStation - Warhammer Jade Blooded concept art: Eastern Beastmen thralls, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
Similar to the event in the West, various Beastmen tribes existed in the East scattered throughout the land since the dawn of mankind. For the most part, the culture of the Eastern Beastmen are similar to those of the West. They are belligerent, violet beings who knows of nothing but ceaseless warfare and carnage. Probably the biggest divergent in their society from the West is that Brays have considerably higher social standing in the East. While they are by no means well respected due to their lack of horns , the Eastern Brays are not only physically much larger and stronger than their western counterpart, but they also posses relentless stamina and a malicious cunning mind. Most Gors on the other hand are generally dim-witted even by Beastmen standard. While they are physically imposing and commands immense brute strength, their stunned intelligence leaves them to be much more easily manipulated by ambitious Brays. When the Beastmen launches raid into the Jade Blooded's domain, those that are mortally wounded and captured would be sealed with a talisman of domination that forcibly bend them to the vampire master's will. In this perpetually rotting state between life and undead, the bonded thralls perform their duties with complete compliance while retaining their savagery and skills in battle.

ArtStation - Warhammer Jade Blooded concept art: Taotie, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Taotie are enormous centipede like monsters residing the subterranean labyrinth and damp swamps of the Northern forest. They were highly regarded for their ferocity and resiliency by the native inhabitants of Han Kou and was originally worshipped as a deity of war. Even after being vassalized by the Cathayan empire, the Taotie continues to serve as a symbol of the Han Kou kings and military. The Taoties itself are a living weapon encased by a glossy thick exoskeleton along its back, more than a dozen pairs of razor sharp legs and venomous secretion from its mandibles. Taming a Taotie would be a overstatement as creatures of such erratic temperament can never really be domesticated. Even with generations of selective breeding and handling experiences, the elite nobles of Han Kou are only able to occasionally utilize these beasts as mounts while redirecting their killer instinct towards the enemies. Feral Taoties, or those raised in captivity that are completely uncontrollable are simply released towards the enemies lines to wreak havoc as they slither through the ranks with its scythe like legs and crushing pincer in a bloody frenzy.

ArtStation - Warhammer Jade Blooded concept art: Zombie Guards, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
In life, the foot soldiers of Han Kou were the first and last line of defense against all the malevolent forces seeking to conquer the peninsula. Though they fought valiantly to protect their home, their numbers were never enough to adequately secure the boarders against the onslaught of invaders until the Jade Blooded took over.
The new vampric masters of Han Kou replenish their ranks by raising those who have fallen to take up arms once again. Empowered by the Jade Blooded charms, the Zombie Guards are able to grip and swing a weapon in a manner somewhat resembling to how its suppose to be used, though it would still be hard press to call it proper technique. Through the use of vile magic, the Jade blooded further enhanced their reanimated armies by straining their decaying muscles to the extreme at the expense of durability in order to allow for rapid movement matching their insatiable urge to kill. When the occasion for battle arise, the Zombie Guards are usually the first line to be deployed as they run rampantly towards the enemy at their master's command with raised weapons and grasping jaw in a eerie growl of unholy symphony.

The Hungry Ghouls are hideous towering fiends with a constant overwhelming urge to devour whatever in sight but never being able to fulfill that ravenous hunger. Many were once condemned Cathayan criminals exiled across the Great Bastion and left to fend for themselves in the inhospitable Eastern Steppes. However, only the strongest and most vile of these exiles would endure, often by murdering anyone they come across and feasting upon their corpses.
Whether it's a gift from the chaotic energies emanating out of the black monoliths scattered throughout the Steppes, or a dark curse seeped in the very air through eons of gruesome bloodshed, many of these cannibalistic exiles soon became twisted beyond recognition . As all sanity escaped, they eventually devolved into grotesque imitation of a human form with a hideous snarling visage and spindly limbs that were mere skin warped around bones. Tormented by a insatiable hunger, whatever they consume feels like fiery charcoal burning in their throat while clean water taste like a puddle of putrid blood. This is perhaps not without cause, as in their accursed form, they are able to breathe out fire fueled from the unholy meat rotting in their large protruding belly that refused to be digested.
Like many other damned beings that subconsciously feel the pull of the dark magic from powerful undead lords, the crazed minds of the Hungry Ghouls are easily dominated by their new master into doing their dark deeds. With weapons provided by their masters, they delight in skewering their prey with large forks as they exhale fiery breath on the screaming victim before finally devouring them.

The Jade Revenants are once the noble kin and clan warriors of the Han Kou royal family. Armed with the ancient knowledge of Taotie handling and expert prowess with the flail and archery, they were the very elite of the kingdom's military. As the reality of Han Kou subjugation by Cathay sinks in while the Jade blooded influence grows in court, many of these aristocratic warriors chose to willingly aligned themselves with the vampires in hopes of one day avenging their fallen kingdom.
To reward their followers for their devotion, the Jade blooded has bestowed the gift of immortality to many of these skilled warriors. Since creating new vampires was strictly regulated by Prince Xen's decree, they were instead turned to Wights through dark rituals so that they may continue their martial careers in for eternity. Those worthy enough to be chosen for this honor would began to regularly consume a elixir of grinned up jade that gradually harden their bones to the strength and appearance to that of the finest, purest jade with a pale translucence green hue. Once their body is sufficiently prepared, their meat are expertly carved out while still alive in order for the soul not to escape after death in a dark ritual known as the Rite of a Thousand Slices. Jade Blooded scripts of power are than etched onto the bones to bind the soul and further enhance their unholy strength. Most who undergoes this ritual would not survive from the horror and pain of the procedure, but those that do returns to the world of the living as the dreaded Jade Revenants.

ArtStation - Warhammer Jade Blooded concept art: Renegade Exorcist, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
Exorcists are disciples in the lore of Death that utilizes their magical knowledge and swordsmanship to fight against the various malevolent spirits that infested the land. They wander from villages to villages as freelance mercenaries offering a variety of services; from guiding lost spirits to their ancestral land, helping a loved one communicate with the deceased, to ridding whatever menace that haunts the town. However, when you go looking for evil, sometimes it look back, and in many instances these Exorcists may find themselves attracting the attention of the Jade blooded lords as potential disciples to help execute their plans.
The pursuit in the secrets of death is already a perilous road requiring great caution and self control. Without a official organization like the Amethyst Order governing their ranks, most of these Exorcists are known to be quite reckless in their interpretation of the Amethyst wind with the opinion that the goal justify the means. Such misguided attitude and thirst for forbidden knowledge allowed many to be susceptible to the very dark powers that they have sworn to defeat. Some ultimately delve into the irredeemable practise of necromancy, forever twisting their body and soul with unholy power becoming neither wholly alive, nor one of the undead. With their newfound powers, Renegade Exorcists shed whatever noble aspirations they once held and solely dedicated their attention to explore the depths of binding and commanding the undead in service of the Jade Blooded.
Lacking the intrinsic vocal powers of the Jade blooded, the Exorcists use their ritual bells to form a psychic link with the talisman on their subjects in order to command the dead. Besides being formidable spellcasters, they are also deadly swordsmen in their own right. While their Spell-sword fashioned with strung up coins may seem harmless, they channel their unholy power into the enchanted coins to deal devastating magical attacks.

ArtStation - Warhammer Jade Blooded concept art: Mogwai Prowlers, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
The Mogwai are a sub-species of Goblins, more specifically a branch of Troglagobs of the Far East and like other Goblins, they are treacherous creatures that prey on the weak and succumb to the strong. The Mogwai, as the locals refers to them, lives freely in scattered primitive enclaves in swamps, rivers and coastal areas. Subsiding mainly on hunting and fishing, they would fashion simple armors and weapon from the skins and shell of their prey. Since most Cathayan in these remote regions would have never seen a Goblin in their life, the sight of a Mogwai covered in an amalgamation of animal carcass would often led them to be mistaken for spirits of dead animals that haunts the wilderness.
While extremely pathetic and cowardly by nature, when a large enough tribe band together, they would raid on isolated villages and quickly scurry back to their hideout at the first sign of any real resistance. Even when attacking in absolute numeric superiority, the skittish Mogwai would still prefer to attack from a safe distance with the flying twin claws; a rope-dart like weapon consisting of a pair of severed crocodile hands strung together which they use to grapple and entangle their victims. Only when their prey seems weaken enough would they engage in melee by those wielding primitive rakes made of bones.
Being accustomed to a semi-aquatic lifestyle, the Mogwais could actually fight with uncanny speed and resiliency when the terrain is in their favour such as near bodies of water or in the rain. In the absence of any large Orcish presence within the Cathayan domain, the weak willed Mogwai fall easily to the Jade Blooded to dominate over and used as scouts or simple fodders.

ArtStation - Warhammer Jade Blooded concept art: Cultist Boxers, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
While the Jade blooded themselves are immensely powerful masters of vampric magic, they are by far the smallest of the bloodlines due to their unstable lineage. Preferring to rule from the shadows, the Jade blooded utilize a large host of Cultists to do their bidding either through charm or subjugation. These loyal servants may fulfill all sorts of roles from recruitment, subterfuge, torturer, soldiers, to just taking care of the daily needs of their masters for those who have decayed far beyond self sufficiency.
Within the ranks of the soldiers , the Boxers are some of the most deadly warriors feared by their brethren and enemies alike. Recruited from martial art masters all over the land, they are experts in hand to hand combat and the enforcers of Jade cultists.
Although their combat prowess is undisputed, what makes them even more dangerous is their unyielding fanaticism for their vampire masters. Deeply indoctrinated that they are fighting for a righteous cause and the promise of divine protection, these zealot charge into the enemies in a suicidal fury without a shred of fear or doubt.
In return for their undying loyalty, the Jade Blooded masters have bestowed upon them rare powerful talisman wrappings with the spirit of folk heroes bounded within. When wearing traditional costumes and makeup that mimic those heroes of old along with the enchanted talisman, the Boxers can temporarily invoke the power of these spirits to possess the Boxer's body becoming impervious to physical harm. However, once the effects has worn off, the damage that was sustained during this time would manifest as wounds and scars appears almost magically where there was none before.

ArtStation - Warhammer Jade Blooded concept art: Defiant Avenger, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
In life, the Defiant Avengers were once great heroes in their own right hailing from a variety of background, each with their own legendary exploits. Yet in death, the one thing they share is the unquenchable thirst for vengeance for their unjustly demise. Some were Cathayan war heroes wrongly executed due to political schemes, others were rebel leaders of minor tribes whose uprising were brutally crushed.
Whether it was their pride, their hatred for their executioners, or just stubborn refusal to submit to their fate, the indomitable spirit of these fallen warriors are so overwhelming that their decapitated bodies continues to wander the world aimlessly in search for vengeance. Many would inevitably be attracted to ancient sites of profane rituals where powerful dark magic festers. Combined with the burning rage that has now consumed their every thoughts, the dark energies have twisted their souls as well as their physical form with eyes manifesting out of their chest and grinning wide mouth tearing out of the navel in a grim display of bloody intestines and teeth.
Brandishing their shield and war axe, the Defiant Avengers marches with the Court of the Jade Blooded whom they share a common enemy with and demands the heads of every Cathayan in order to satiate their grievances. With their experience as famed warriors and great leaders of men from a lifetime ago, the Defiant Avengers are not only fearsome combatants of grotesque strength, but also cunning tacticians that leads the armies of the undead.

ArtStation - Warhammer Jade Blooded concept art: Baturu Warriors, Cobol Yu
    [IMG]
Baturu, the Han Kou word for "brave" was a ancient honorary rank bestowed upon those who have proven themselves in battle with exemplary valor and bravery. Upon receiving their title, it replaces their original given name as a sign of mandatory respect for all who addresses them.
Most Baturus who have earned their name hailed from the age before the great wrap stone fell, when horses were still plentiful in Cathay as were the use of cavalry and chariots. Open warfare with Cathay was frequent and neither side has yet to gain any significant advantage. Wielding the formidable two-handed blade nicknamed "Horse Choppers" in a well choreographed technique of dodges and well timed swing, the Baturus specialized in maiming and slicing off horse legs. Once they have blunted the charge as their enemy's chariots lay broken, the Han Kou's own mounted archers would move in for the kill like a pack a wolves circling a wounded prey.
The stalemate would last for centuries with intermittent peace and trade, though it wouldn't be long until the aftermath of the warp stone is truly felt. With the Ogre problem permanently dealt with, Cathay was able to refocus its attention towards magical and technological advancement under the supreme guidance of the Celestial Dragons . The days of mass cavalry and chariots slowly became a relic of the past being replaced by constructs, gunpowder and magic. During the last days of Han Kou's bid for autonomy, the Cathayan's recorded it as the "Battle to Pacific the East", the once mighty Han Kou army crumpled against the superior firepower and technology of their nemesis paving the way for its eventual subjugation.
Most of the Baturus perished on that fateful day, as they laid amongst their comrades buried beneath the ancient battlefield for centuries until they have once again been called to arms by the dark magic of the Jade Blooded lords. With runic charms that has reawaken some semblance of their past fighting maneuver, the Baturus fights again neither in honor of their name or protection of their homeland, but simply at the beckon of their masters.
