I think I mentioned that in above post where I posted the Lion forge world model and the Heresy DA Art.

Also the image of the praetor and the bearded picture of the lion in the background of the picture of his model are In Book 8:crusade. So full beard lion is as canon as the side facing portrait pic which is more stubble

Calas Typhon's got a pretty impressive amount of facial hair by Marine standards. I don't recall it coming up in Flight of the Eisenstein though. Maybe the HH1 rulebook is the first source here?

One thing I have noticed when looking a art that predates the initial release of the Forge world Heresy game and the novels series is less consistency of the Primarchs depictions.

Conversely since the initial release of the heresy sub game and the novel series there has been a move towards emphasizing that they really are brothers. That there are facial features and other features that they all share in part or in whole.

The Ruinstorm cover is a pretty good example

They look like brothers here. All three have the same browline and nose shape(though Sanguinius has a slightly thinner nose) why the Lion is wearing an eye patch I have no idea(he does not get an eye injury in this book or in his fight with Konrad in the previous book).

A character in the novels remarks on Horus and Dorn looking like brothers.

Konrad comments in one of the stories that he and Corvus could be considered twins.

    Also @Iron_lord,

Severian, a Luna wolf who was on Terra during the start of the Heresy and is later a Knight Errant has a big ole Space Wolf beard According to Vengeful Spirit and the cover art of short story Collection the Silent War.

I don't think that's an eye patch - just iffy shading. If there was an eye patch you'd expect to see a strap to hold it on.

I don't think he is wearing an eye patch. It's just that he's slightly squinting his eye while that side of his face is in shadow

    EDIT: Ninjad

If you zoom in it looks like either eye patch or he took a punch and its swollen shut.

That's something that needs to be retconed away or given an explanation that makes is possible for elder brothers to have beards, for how is battle-brother Guglielmo da Baskerville going to look right without a beard?

We need some Space Marines heads with real monk-style haircuts, not just for the DA but for any monk-ish/extra monastic Chapter.

Actually we need more SM heads with different haircuts and/or face hair over all.

    Not seeing it.

    @Gamiel

They tried that on the new Uriel Ventris model.

Despite giving him a modern undercut in the art associated with his new novel they put a monkish, Henry V at Agincourt hairstyle on the actually mini

It got mocked by a decent portion of the fandom.

Painting log for the week of 3/15.

I will finish up my Hell blaster squad this week. 4 more to put together. I am also going to be taking a Horus Heresy Dark Angels Praetor model(the one in posted a picture of during the beards on Astartes discussion) and kit bashing it to be 3rd company Champion for my 40k army(I already have A version of the model done for my Heresy Dark Angels) so the armor will be green. The kit bash will just be changing the hand and the position of the shield on the arm so he can hold a bolt pistol in the same hand as the shield which will be positioned so that its strapped to the arm rather than centrallu gripped.

I have ordered a Land raider for my Death wing, Sammael on his jet bike, and more terminators for the Deathwing. I also got a deal from a 3rd party seller I trust for Saint Celestine as i want to try painting a female model.

    Backlog

    3 outriders from Indomitus box.
    3 eradicators from Indomitus box
Raven wing Commamd Squad( likely done as the command squad rather than black Knights as Apothecary on bike is a very good model to have in an army)
    Primaris Chaplain on Bike
    Venerable Dreadnought.
    primaris infiltrators.
    Primaris Reivers
    Sammael on Corvex
Cataphracti Terminator squad for Death wing with Forge world Cataphracti Praetor as Sgt.

I kind of wish they new codex supplement had given the option for Primaris Black Knights so in could kitbash the hammers.

But I guess that won't happen till we get a Out rider bike that gives the option for plasma weapons instead of bolters.

Edit - since my stimulus check came through in ordered a second raven wing n command squad so will end up doing both the Champiom, Apothecary, Ancient, and 3 black knights this will be fun as I have a couple of friends who play Ork Speed Freaks so I can play a raven wing only army against them this summer.

Placed the order for Warmaster and Anarch. Really hoping there is no short stories I’ll be missing out on but I didn’t want to wind up finishing and waiting on Victory 2 even though I’d be safe for atleast another month even if I had good progression days. I’m going to be pissed off if the info on it drops anytime soon now lol

Have brought my first pack of Space Marines Assault Intercessors. Plan to learn to paint by painting them as Sons of Jaghatai, with my cousin as teacher.

A problem with the set is that when I finally will dare to paint flesh so are most of the heads rather unfitting for the Turco-Mongolish feeling I think they should have, if I'm lucky my cousin have some Stormcast heads that will more fitting for that (and work on marine bodies). I also plan to buy some White Scars uppgrades, and maybe the Celestial Warbringers Upgrades since the comet on the shields fit with the comet on the Sons of Jaghatai Veteran Sergeant's backbanner, seen below with all exisitng info on them:

suggestions on what to use as squad marking beside a small alpha are gracefully received.

First off, Welcome to the wonderful world of building and painting plastic crack.

Traditional white scars squad markings are lightning bolt designs.since they are a white scars successor you could do that.

    Or alternatively, Mongolian numerals

    @Gamiel

If you ever do hellblaster squads. PIN the weapon together. The plasma incinerator comes in 4 parts and lining them up with just glue is a pain in the butt.

I was able to cut the hand on the shield of the praetor model off exactly as I wanted to and glue it to the arm with bolter option that comes m with the the kit so it should work really well for a Company Champion.

Since company champions where artificer armor the Heresy style armor fits well. Went with a bone white cloak. Red rope belt.leadbelcher chasing on the breast plate and shield . The helmet wings and wing on the shield are off white(its always makes me laugh that the best white to do stuff not too bright white is Celestia Gray). The the linen of joins where the helm has rivets through the center is done in gold(a concession to the codex complaint tradition of the Champion wearing a gold helmet.)

I will post pictures tomorrow or Sunday.

So this happened earlier today: Warhammer Preview Online – Faith & Damnation - Warhammer Community

Some comments about the new stuff:

Here we have some good parts for anybody that want something a bit more vampire-gothic in style (be it for Space Marines, Rogue Traders, =][=, or Chaos); the Blood Knight cavalry just need some modification to be Rough Riders on xeno-beasts, or abhorses; for the Deathrattle Skeletons can I only see a use as source for spare parts but your throphy rack will be different from the others if it's topped by helmeted Deathrattle skulls; Deadwalker Zombies can be used as poxwalkers as they are; Fell Bats can be used as beasts or just as something to make your battle table more gothic, and to have them among your Blood Angels successors will make them appear more vampiric.

You know, I have been thinking that with a head swap could many Ossiarch Bonereapers function as alternative, more grim and bony Eldars, it is after all established that their armour is made out of wraithbone. In that scenario could Mir Kainan be a wraithlord, or in other scenarios could he be a daemon, or daemon prince.

Outside of Necromunda did the live presentation offer many different uses for this new gang, @anakincol would be interested in the one that suggested a head and arm swap to make them ammo carrier for Dark Angels

Nothing to say here really, nice figure and nice that the AdMek player get a new book

Nice that the SoB get more toys after so long without anything, can also be used for any religous IG regiment or Space Marine chapter, with some small modifications - if even that.

Funny. Seems the orks are getting something really new soon. Think this means that boarboys are being retconned away, or at least replaced by those new squigboars

Question: much fanart of the Mantis Warriors Chapter depict them as samurai-ish. I was wondering what this idea is based on, since nothing in their description (that I have seen) says samurai to me*? Or is it just a question of somebody doing them as samurai and later people just picking it up?
    * more than any other warrior culture/group

From what I have seen it is more ninja than samurai. Its due to using stealth tactics and being a White Scars successor post 8th edition and fans running with it. Nothing from pre 8th edition screams Japanese warriors to me that I have seen and they are a original Rogue trader era chapter so they go back.
