We also got some Charnel Guard auxilla kits (with lots of parts that can be used by Mortifactors players):

We also got some new upgrade kits for the Black Templars, the Pure warband, and Emperor's Paladins

(some work may be needed to get the new bits to fit propper)

and a new Rough Riders box - that can be cannibalised for anybody who wants to ad some knightly or gothic feeling to their figures

from: Warhammer 40,000 and Forge World: Legends and Last Chance to Buy
"Last Chance to Buy: Space Marines
The upcoming Leviathan box is packed with new Space Marines and Tyranids, including fantastic updates to some iconic units – Terminators, Sternguard Veterans, and a Ballistus Dreadnought. The arrival of these three in particular means certain older miniatures are entering Last Chance to Buy on the Games Workshop webstore – the Space Marine Dreadnought, the current Sternguard Veterans, and the current Space Marine Terminators.

Those who own these classic models needn’t worry – they can still find a place on the battlefields of the new edition of Warhammer 40,000, representing kits that are still supported (like the new Sternguard Unit). Specialist flavours of Dreadnought – such as the Librarian Dreadnought, the Wulfen Dreadnought, or the Venerable Dreadnought kit – aren’t going anywhere either.

Importantly – and despite what heretical elements in the noosphere might be claiming otherwise – the humble Tactical Squads (as well as many other classic kits) are not being retired. In the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 you will still be able to play a Space Marines army without deploying so much as a single Primaris Marine, if you so choose."

"Forge World: Last Chance to Buy
Talking of Legends, there’s also a bit of a shake-up happening to the Warhammer 40,000 range from Forge World. Quite a few classic resin kits will be entering Last Chance to Buy, and for those units that don’t have a contemporary analogue, they will also get Legends rules."

The FW stuff being pulled of are:
    • Relic Contemptor Dreadnought
    • Gabriel Angelos
    • Salamanders Venerable Dreadnought
    • Asterion Moloc and Invanus Enkomi
    • Minotaur Contemptor Dreadnought
    • Red Scorpions Carab Cullen The Risen (already sold out)
    • Inquisitor Lord Rex & Retinue
    • Inquisitor Lok & Retinue
    • Vendetta Gunship Conversion Kit
    • Dreadfire Close Combat Arms
    • Tybereos The Red Wake
    • Greater Bloodhirster of Khorne
    • Great Unclean One of Nurgle
    • Greater Keeper of Secrets
    • Greater Lord of Change
    • Khorne Daemon Prince & Herald
    • Lord Zhufor
    • Nurgle Daemon Prince & Herald
    • Hell Blade Fighter
    • Hell Talon Bomber
    • World Eaters Conversion Set
    • Malanthrope
    • Dimachaeron
    • Reaper
    • Necron Pylons
    • Night Shroud Bomber
    • Warboss on Bike
    • Mek Boss Buzzgob
    • Supa Kannon
    • Stompa Head
    • Stompa Lifta-Droppa Arm

@Gamiel comment: really bad timing for this for me. I have been thinking about buying some of those models in the future but right now that's something my already bleeding wallet don't need. But I really want some of them :(

Ok, so I think I've decided I want to continue exploring this universe. Full disclosure: only got through the Hammer and Eagle shortstory collection but I have the Eisenhorn omnibus on order and enjoyed my play of Space Marine on PS3 (after buying it about a decade ago, finally got to dusting it off and giving it a go). Consdier me suitably intrigued.

Problem is: I'm still largely a physical book sort of guy. Especially as Warhammer 40K books seem like some of the few lines that put some effort into covers. The covers are amazing oftentimes for someone who isn't a fan of the modern understated/symbolic cover trend vs actually showing an exciting action scene. But Black Library seems like they are moving away from print editions so things are a bit tough on a neophyte fan like myself. I realize that with alot of titles I have no choice but I am considering getting in print what I can. What I'm wondering is, which books constitue the main forward moving story for the last 10 years or so. I know full well that much of the appeal is that there is NO central story. But with the dwindling physical supplies I want to pick up some books while I can.

From what I can tell Dawn of Fire is the modern "main" story of what is happening with the Imperium and I can tell the Dark Imperium Trilogy precedes this (these are all available iin print still). What about before this? Is there a series that details the Great Rift forming and how about before that? Is there always a new focus series for lack of a better term when a new edition comes out?

Eisenhorn stories are pretty good - that's where I started with 40K.

While published first do Dark Imperium take place after Dawn of Fire

To my knowlege: no. We have the Gathering Storm campaign series, which you can hear (the lore parts that is) being read by the youtuber ABORDER PRINCE (who also relises his readings as pods if you, like me, prefere that). The pod Masters of the Forge do go throung the books, with both rules and lore discussions.

Two books that take place just before and after the creation of the Great Rift are The Lords Of Silence and Watchers of the Throne: The Emperor's Legion but with very different protagonist, and taking place at different areas of the galaxy. The Lords of Silence are part of the 13th Black Crusade that breaks the galaxy but since things throw them out of their possition in the crusade are they not there when the breaking happens.

Cadia Stands is about cadians fighting on Cadia as the 13th Black Crusade attacks it, it's not a spoiler to say that they will lose.

Thanks for all the info - sorry I should have looked up the Dark Imperium thing first. I'm still mulling over snatching up the lot while they are still around (plus it looks like future books are getting a price increase in my parts from some of the listings). I do note a few of the Chapters Omnibi are also available (along with frustratingly volume 1 of Ciaphas Cain and Gaunt's Ghosts but not the rest). If you've read some of the material within, have you found Soul Drinkers Omnibus, Dark Angels and Crimson Fists omnibus stories worthwhile (will probably get around to reading them AFTER Gaunt vol.1, Eisenhorn and Cain Volume 1, just thinking of grabbing them while I can)

Horus Heresy Legion and Black Shield alternate schemes : ImaginaryWarhammer (reddit.com)
"Something a little different today. Came up with some variant schemes for units within the Legions

Salamander 13th Siege Batallion: Pictured in pyre dune camouflage that would later appear in the Badaab war

Istvaan Massacre Survivor: Many of the destroyed legions grabbed what armor they could as the fled the defeat at Istvaan, some warriors chose to continue to wear this mixed armor as a sign of remembrance

Jade Sons: Elements of the White Scars remained loyal to the war master and often marked themselves as such with Sons of Horus Iconography in place of Scars

The Betrayed: one of the many Istvaan III loyalists that survived the Istvaan III attack, the Betrayed wore blood red armor up to their chest to signify the horrific battles fought on istvaan III

The Stricken: Black shields that harried the traitors on the way to terra, possibly 3rd legion in origin

Imperial Fist 20th Sappers: dedicated siege unit for the fists, relished the destruction of fortifications and generally looked down on by other fists, they remained a close knit group throughout the heresy

Gut rippers: one of the ultramarines destroyer squads, there Gut rippers were notoriously brutal during Calth

Iron Warriors 55th Siege Battalion: Pictured in a dazzle camo pattern used in trench warfare

Mud stompers: during Istvaan III many units had little time to identify themselves as loyalists, a quick shoulder swap was often the fastest and easiest way.

Omnissian Cogs: One of the various splinter groups from the Istvaan massacre these warriors became much more religious over machines

Rampagers: Many world eaters renounced their status and returned to warhound iconography once the escaped Istvaan

95th siege Regiment - loyalist elements of the iron warriors who painted their armor bright yellow and replaced their legion insignia with the Terran portcullis

The flayed: abandoned their prim arch and brothers when they discovered their deceit, the leader of the flayed was killed by Conrad while harrying the night lords, the warriors of the war band recolored their armor in his honor

Brothers of Set - Loyalist elements of the Sons of Horus who refused to join the warmasters traitors. They escaped before Istvaan and returned to help the loyalists at the siege of Terra

Kraken company: Traitor space wolves in league with Horus, they later abandoned their legion and joined up with the traitors.

Wardens of Bastet: A few of the wiser Thousand Sons saw what their legion was heading for and a small war band of loyalists escaped via a rogue trader ship before the burning of Prospero

Harald Blue Beard’s Hunters: Space wolves seconded to the Ultramarines as scout elements

Iron Ravens: Istvaan survivors from the iron hands and raven guard who banned together and raced to terra

Blood Eagles: Space wolves fallen to bloodlust after the butchery of Prospero

Converted: some of the weaker willed Ultramarines were converted to the traitors cause

Salamander 115th “Magma Guards” - used delta weapons almost exclusively, their armor also glowed red hot from unknown means."

Started playing the Beta release of Owlcat’s Rogue Trader, and I’m having a good time with it. Still a lot of missing content which is to be expected, but the fundamentals are there, XCOM-style combat in a 40k rpg. The writing hasn’t blown me away but it’s serviceable and filled with 40k lingo. If you’re somebody who likes 40k and Infinity Engine style retro-rpgs then I think you’ll enjoy this one.

A bit late: So GW have show us not-Epic (but close to it) Legions Imperialis

And WarCom did a article about its previous mini-miniature games - Legions Imperialis – The Epic History of Small-Scale Warhammer - personally I really find some of the boxart interesting:
Notice the personal heraldry, how the chapter symbol is sculpted on the pauldron and in the same color, the lack of hoods, and the apothecary's look (the laurel in the same colour as the rest of the armour and only the right pauldron and the symbol on his brow marking him out).

Notice the symbol on the Ultramarines' helmets' brows, the apothecary's look, the company(?) symbol on the officer's pauldron, how the the battlefield role and company number is shown. Also notice the CSM's helmets, the titans' banners, and the Um banners.

Notice the banners hanging from the titan, and heraldry on the mega-gargants.

Notice that many of the standard marines have black kneepads, while many of the Death Company marines have red knees, also notice all the different personally heraldry/markings among the marines.

So, owing to both a nice sale with the local/national online retailer and upcoming price hikes, I decided to pick up way too many novels as a large extended introduction to the world. And since I felt I was missing out on some of the original art with alot of the modern books being omnibuses, I decided to buy some of the art books so I could peruse the original covers of some of these novels in physical format.

In brief I will say both Art of Warahmmer 40k and Art of Black Library books are fantastic. The latter is mainly more recent digital art but blown up and seems pretty comprehensive for modern-ish titles. The former is an older book and while it's missing some of the older novels and occasionally the art could be bigger, it has lavish amounts of painted art from books and game materials. Really some nice pieces.

Visions of Heresy Updated Edition is also a treat. Feels like reading an ornate oversided historical reference book on say the Napoleonic Wars but instead is Space Marines vs Traitor legions. Again, I think it has most of the novel covers as well as card game art.

Finally, a more recent book The First Founding is probably the nicest presenation-wise of the whole bunch, especially the silver edged pages. This one seems like a summary version of various codex material for non game material fans. I don't know what percentage of the art is original but what is there is pretty universally great. Really comes across as a premium piece. In general, for anyone thinking of getting this one, I can highly recommend it (you can find a youtube video that goes through its contents). Basically all 4 of these I bought at about 1.5X-ish MRSP from ebay and I think each one is easily worth that price for anyone who admires 40K art.

Have finished Blood Angels: The Complete Rafen Omnibus and I like it. It's a bit old so there are some parts that feel like they would not do like that nowadays, and now changed lore (like the BA calling the Emperor the God-Emperor and seeing him as divine) but there are lots of interesting concepts/stuff that I'm surprised have not reappeared - like the Libraria, a High Lords blesses project to preventing the lose of knowledge again by collecting it on planets that in practise become giant libraries, but are so full of worthless information that anything useful is really hard to find, and the unwillingness of Imperial organisations to share information with others make the mission statement impossible.

    ----------------------

The HH have gotten some new stuff: A generic Loyalist Champion
    [IMG]

And here is he with some photoshop paintjob and headswap:
from Loyalist Champion - Page 3 - + NEWS, RUMORS, AND BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS + - The Bolter and Chainsword

Can easily see him used in 40k.

and a Sons of Horus Weapon Upgrades kit:

Can see the coin-bling decorated weapons used by any chapter or warband that have a coin-bling thing (could work really great with some of the parts from the Iron Golems), or where that would fit (like the White Scars). The non-decorated axes can be used by anybody that want something different for their powerweapon users.

I found it very interesting, regarding GW's production development and why some products are created, other are dropped, and why they will not make some products (like dropper bottle) that people on the internet think they should.

A bit late but NOVA Open 2023 happened, and we got some new Space Marine stuff (or ratter new - primaris - takes on old stuff):
Jump Packs Send Captains and Assault Intercessors Soaring Into the Sky
    [IMG]

Space Marine Terminators Fire Up the Teleport Homer and Prepare for Rapid Ingress
    [IMG]

A New Generation of Space Marine Scouts
    [IMG]

    the Heroes of the Chapter
    [IMG]

What to say but nice. Hope the Heroes of the Chapter box have lots of bits so you can really personallise your heroes, and use the extra bits to mark out other important members of your chapter.

For the 30k folks we got:
New Deredeo dreadnoughts and all-new MK III Tactical Marines
    [IMG]

and a box with both of them:

What to say but nice for the HH people and the 40k ones that like their firstborn.

And then there was perfection: The Phoenician Transformed
    [IMG]

I say wow. Wonder if they will use the same model for Fulgrim when they release him for 40k.

We also got some non far-future stuff, but that don't mean we cant use it:
Trugg, the Troggoth King can I see a use of as a Nurgle daemon, or xeno-creature that count-as-Imperial/Chaos Knight
    [IMG]

and that was not all for Destruction, there was lots of new orruks with An Avalanche of Ironjawz
    [IMG]

As seen in the latest White Dwarf, nr:492, are ironjawz a good base for converting into 40k orks, or with some more work (and a not-green paintjob) could function as abhumans.

And for the ogor there was The Gorger Mawpack Prepare To Make a Meal out of the Wildercorps

the gorgers can be used as alternative wulfen, eightbound, and similar.

And for Warhammer Underworlds we got some new daemonetts to personlise your Slanessch forces and an the deepkin kan be used as eldars or for bits for any army:
Dysfunctional Daemons and Determined Deepkin Duel Over Souls

For the Old World we got: Bow Deeply for Élisse Duchaard
    [IMG]
Who I ca see as count-as-Konstantin-and-Lord-Solar-Leontus.

And we aslo got lots of Blood Angels chapter serfs (the Thrall Linemen), and bits for any bat or vampire themed force in the Drakfang Thirsters:

Like the unhelmetd MKVI head (can see a use for it for my own forces) but the helmet ones don't really feel that much like anything we have seen for the Wolves, either in 30k or 40k. The wolf-helmets fit them better in my opinion, and it was a nice nod to that one of the first SW figures (back in 1ed) had a wolf-helmet.

Like the preator. Can see him work as an Death Guard, Iron Warrior, Imperial Fist, Dark Angel, World Eater, with som light work (like removing/changin the backbanner).

I think its good to have the customization, though, especially if you wanted to do something like have the wolf-helms be those for veteran SWs while the younger ones get the beaked ones.

...and it sounds like some older players disliked the wolf helms as well.
