In Retrospect: What if Zam Wessel lived??

We all know that Zam Wessel got her arm caught off by Obi Wan and then Jango finshed her. Even though it made ZERO sense for that to happen (She's a shape shifter-- why didn't she just shift and walk out?), what if Zam had escaped? Assuming she did the sensible thing, used her natural ability and evaded Obi Wan and Anakin, how would the Jedi have ever discovered the Clone Operation??

The Kaminoan Kyber Dart was the only link to the planet of Kamino and the clone production. Without the dart, the Jedi would never have learned to look at Kamino, would not have known they were cloners living there and would never know of Jnago's connection or the planet being erased from the Archives.

From a storyline standpoint, this is the crucial scene of the movie. The plot does not advance without it. But it really should not have happened. Is there any other way the Jedi could have found out about the Army or fall into Palpatine's trap??

 

Certainly. It just might have come at a later time.

Even if Zam Wesell had escaped, Palpatine might have still had the Jedi send Padme away and done all he can to get his Army of the Republic legalized. He might not have been able to start his war just then, but he could have taken the appropriate steps.

Surely you don't doubt the power of Palpy the master manipulator! He's always got a Plan B, C and so on through ZZX49!


For all we know, what he saw WAS his "Plan B"!

Well, when I say "trap" I mean setting the Jedi up to discover and then take charge of the Clones. How else could the Jedi have discovered them? That seems pretty key to later blaming themf or this conflict or making them look like rogues of some sort.

 

On a side note, I still don't understand this "Why didn't Zam shapeshift" arguement...wouldn't she still have been wearing that distinctive purple jumpsuit? Plus I assume she'd have a equally distinctive signature in the Force for the Jedi to track.

Back on track...it's hard for me to say exactly what Palpatine had in mind. I kinda see the deaths of all the Jedi on Geonosis as a really cool bonus for Palps...his main objectives were to get himself increased powers and a nice big army.

 

Then she would have still died. The Jedi would have questioned her and Jango would have assinated her anyways once she left the custody of the Jedi.

 

I think this is a very good question. Meditate on this, I will.

We don't know that for sure, in regards to her clothes. But even if she still had them on, turning into somesort of reptillian-type alien or other radically different look would help her a lot. Remember, Obi Wan did not really see her and Anakin was not even sure if she was a woman! So taking off her biker helmet and changing form would have had to have helped her blend in with the crowd.

And she had spotted Obi Wan at the bar with his back turned anyway, so she definitely had time to just slip out.
