    Anakin was very likeable.

"We got em, R2." Smiling, sounding very sure of himself.

"I was about to say that." Shows he's learned patience and a sense of humor.

I agree Anakin is much more likeable in my opinion. He is a relatable guy, and he is not perfect as we see...

Luke always rubbed me the wrong way. He is extremely annoying.

I hate to admit it, but Anakin was much more likable in the beginning of RoTS, than he ever was in AOTC. I thought he came across as a genually caring guy who's loyal to his friends and his loved ones. That's what made his descention into evil that much more traegic, for me. The Anakin we saw at the beginning of RoTS (the good guy who cared about his friends and loved ones) was the Anakin we should've saw in AoTC, IMO.

But overall, I like Luke, more. Both father and son have their faults, but ultimately, Luke makes the right decisions, whereas the father did not. That's the difference, for me.

Besides, it was the son (Luke) who ultimately redeems the father (Anakin), in the end.

Yes, of course Anakin was more likable. his situation was so real, and well, Luke was just a whiney farmboy. So yeah, Anakin is definately more likeable.

    ----------------------------------------------

situation was so real? how often do you dream your one love is gonna die and you have to kill people to save her. Anakin is a little girl, he always sounds like hes about to cry, hes a jedi, he should know better. Luke accepts who he is and is much more likeable, thats why he got good mates who are willing to die for him such as han and everyone. Anakin only friend is a wrinkled old pervert who gets off on putting him in a glorified gimp suit.

Anakin is a conflicted young man. Its believable that he's confused about a lot of things. That's why Palaptine was able to fool him so easily. From a why who was a slave for the first 9 years of his life, to feeling like an outsider with the Jedi, its believable that Palpatine would be able to twist this guy. Anakin was obviously trying to do the right thing, but when you're that confused, its easy for someone like Palpatine to fool him. That's why his downfall was believable, for me. I mean, this is the same guy who thought the Jedi were evil towards the end of RoTS. It just showed how twisted Anakin really became.

There's a reason why Obi Wan considered Anakin, 'dead' in the OT. After watching this movie, I think its obvious that Obi Wan was right, based on Anakin's actions. Anakin really did turn into the very same thing he hated the most, which obviously destroyed his soul. Anakin was dead, spiritually, at the end of RoTS.

Luke on the other hand, didn't have the rough upbringing his father had, despite the fact that Anakin was with a mother who loved him dearly. That's why Luke didn't have the baggage his father did. It doesn't excuse any of Anakin's horrific actions, but its an explanation to why Anakin was fooled, and became so twisted, and why Luke turned out, alright.

Remember, it was the son (Luke) who redeemed the father (Anakin), in the end.

    Anakin is adorable.

    Luke is......meh.
But then look who raised him, two of the most bland ass, non-creative, dullards in the galaxy. Then electricity created between Owen and Beru could toast a slice of bread. Lightly.

Luke would have been a more dynamic person if he'd been raised by his two brillaint, lively, playful, real parents. Poor Luke. Good as a person gets, but boring. Before he knew the force, he was more spritely.

Luke on the other hand, had an easier life, and didn't have the rough upbringing his father had, despite the fact that Anakin was with a mother who loved him dearly. That's why Luke didn't have the baggage his father did. It doesn't excuse any of Anakin's horrific actions, but its an explanation to why Anakin was fooled, and became so twisted.

Luke had it much easier. He didn't love his corruptor like a father, and he didn't have a wife. He had nothing but idealism, the fantasy of what was fed to him.

Anakin cold hard reality, he led infantry, he saw his mother murdered, and saw misery and death in his formative years, while Luke was punking around at Toschi Station. He didn't have to become a man so fast, and not under any real scrutiny, unlike his galactic poster boy dad, who knew and loved the ruling elite. He was one of them. To Luke they were all enemies and strangers. It's easier to kill strangers in self righteousness, than to kill one of the persons you love best in life. Luke had no conflicts.

i REALLY liked anakin at the beginning of this movie. he didn't seem like such a little shmuck anymore and you could tell that he loved and respected obi-wan and i don't know. he still seemed just as arrogant, but he also seemed a lot more mature and less whiney.

it's a shame that he was weak and listened to Palp over everyone else. but at the same time, he in a sense sacrificed himself to try to save Padme. misplaced trust and a bad decision yes, but he did it with good (yet kind of selfish) intentions. it does not however jusity him killing all those people.

it just all varifies my theory that i've had since the OT. he was not really an evil guy, he was just easily manipulated and made a bad decision, but with good intentions. he was deceived and lied to and offered a lot of power to have the ability to save his wife, after already losing his mother. he was scared and acted rashly.

Also, Anakin never had a true Father.

I think that "Qui-Gon" was the only one who truly treated him as a son, well...Palpatine did, but obviously he wasn't a strong father figure at all.

Luke did have Owen, who was bland and stupid...but he did have an image of who his father was, and that was very important.

All Anakin had was his mother.

Obi-Wan was like Anakin's father, but in AOTC we see they are more like two very good, very old friends...brothers...

I wouldn't say Anakin was more likable than Luke in the first half of ROTS, but he was almost as likable as Luke, and after how whiny he was in AOTC, that's a great accomplishment. But his character was really cool in the first part of ROTS, and in fact he was quite a bit like Luke, especially ROTJ Luke.

But Luke will always be my favorite. One of the great things about the PT is it really shows just how good a person Luke is, as he faces many of the same choices as his father did, but he learns from his mistakes, while Anakin fails to.

But the whole dynamic between father and son is fascinating, especially in ROTJ.

Have not read the replies yet. I will after. I repeat...sorry!

I realy felt that AS was the more likable. The OT had Han Solo who I admired more than LS(my age 6+ y/o with release of ANH).
AS is very typical with the whiny over the top personality--in AOTC--which is probably approprite for his age. However in ROTS he is growing up, and HC is growing into the character. I can't help but wanting to rewrite the story and hope for AS to do the right thing.--giving up PA would be the first thing he would need to do.

I think the pressure and challanges presented to AS were incredible. "here kid, you are going to bring the ballance to everthing that is good in the world...oh yeah, by the way....see all the hot chicks...don't even think about it!"

My point. Character that was created at begining of ROTS was someone I could have followed for several movies. And yes more likable than LS

maybe if Luke had his real parents to raise him...hmmm whos fault is that? Luke doesnt grow up to cut off his "blessings" hand and torture his other one on the Death Star.

Luke is a WEENIE!!! He's the worst character in any Star Wars movie (that includes Jar Jar)
    He's a whiny little rat.
    No wonder way Vader is so angry;
    1) the Jedi Counsil screws him
    2) Palps uses him
    3) Padme dies
    4) his son turns out to be a whining, crying, asexual, whimp ... way to go Luke! I'd turn to the darkside too if you were my kid

My thoughts exactly. If only Lucas could have seen this, the prequels would have been much stronger, IMHO.

Remember though, Anakin was only 19 or 20 in AOTC. He is still maturing.

4 years of war will mature you...

    I agree.
Anakin at RoTS at least in the first half, appears more mature, caring, good person, than any other episode and of course he is more likeable than Luke,(since we focus only on the first part of RoTS).
    Otherwise,... :p

In this movie, Anakin definitely started out as more likeable. That of course is why his turn was so moving and so gut-wrenching. Luke and Anakin developed in opposite directions. Anakin started out likeable (in this movie anyway, though I thought he was at least understandable in the first two) and then came unglued. Luke started out whiny and immature but grew up over the OT. Anakin had so much potential. Always a shame to see that go to hell!

No, I've always liked Luke better and still do. While Anakin was more likeable for a few minutes in RotS than he was in the earlier films, I still didn't like him as much as I like Luke. You'll notice that Anakin wasn't likeable for very long either! ;)

It is true that Anakin is much more likeable in ROTS, and that was critical if people were to feel anything when he turns. It's also critical if Obi-Wan's musings remain true, "...the good man that was your father..." "...and he was a good friend..."

As far as comparing him to his son, I would say that they are equal in my book. Anakin in AOTC was not much different from Luke in ANH; just different circumstances they found themselves. As far as Anakin's character in general, I like him as Vader the best. Nothing beats his persona in ESB.

Being one of the few here, I fell in love with Anakin Skywalker/Hayden Christensen in AOTC and thought that he was awesome. He definitely drew me in!! It was so gut wrinching to see Anakin actually turn to the dark side and for a minute you were hoping that he wouldn't and Episodes 4, 5 & 6 didn't even exsist. Now saying all that, I thought I was just in love with Hayden but I finally realized that I'm really in love with Anakin (Hayden as Anakin) and his character. So, I definitely like Anakin more! Wish we could have seen Hayden playing Anakin in 4, 5 & 6. I know that's not a reality but still a wish!

I also liked Anakin Skywalker a lot in III! I went to the movie finally waiting for that moment, where Anakin becomes Darth Vader and all that stuff! And I had a lot of mixed feelings with Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader in III!

In a way you could really see he just wanted to do
good! I didn't find any arrogance at all actually!
I actually thought in III he'd had more hate regarding Obi-Wan, but in fact you could really see him loving him!
II: "If he's still alive!" "It's all Obi-Wan's fault he's holding me back!"
III: "I'm not leaving without you Master!" "His fate will be the same as ours"

I felt really sorry for Anakin, (even though I think Palpatine's charackter is great and one of my favorite I wish I could go in there and kick is a** for manipulating him, starting at the Opera scene) he just wanted to save the one he loved and lost everything, his wife, his best friend, freedom and his humanity!
Luke might have done the right decisions, but you felt way more for Anakin!
One of the lines I loved also was when Anakin said: "This baby is a blessing", which makes the end of Episode VI very touching
There you could really feel for Anakin again, when he finally realized he didn't lose everything and discovered "the secret" to save people: the force which is the most powerful of all: Love!
"I can't leave you here, I've got to save you"
    "You already have, Luke"

Anakin was never likable mainly b/c he was written and acted poorly in the first two movies. B/c of that, most mainstream movie-goers already didn't like him as a character.

As for threads concerning if his turn was realistic or not. I feel that the part that stumps people is the fact that they feel he is a hero/good guy to begin with.

I never saw him as a hero/good guy. I always saw him as a little ****head! So even if the turn was quick, it was believable to me, b/c all he needed was an excuse to be bad. Once someone told him it was OK to do whatever the hell he wanted, he ran with it.

I have to admit, Hayden Christenson did a respectable job in Ep3, though.

Luke will always be liked more - sweet and innocent is our Luke. By the time Anakin was married and had kids, Luke hadn't got much further than kissing his own sister... ;)
