I loved "The Last Crusade" when I was 12. I've played it at least a thousand times. I don't know exactly why I loved it so much, but I just did; I think it was the atmosphere.

I also had "Fate of Atlantis", but I didn't enjoy it as much.

And "Infernal Machine" was a disaster. It was so bloody stupid. The guy had such an adventurous life, and all he had to do in the game was moving big blocks and swinging across cliffs. I remember I dubbed him "Lousy Jones" halfway through the game, out of boredom. Near the end, when the 'plot' had him fighting some ice monster, he had degenerated into "Disillusioned Jones", because at that point I just couldn't care anymore. After sweating to see some little plant grow, and jumping like an idiot from platform to platform, my Jones just wanted to die.

They could do a point-and-click game like Diablo. Just with more detail and better graphics.

I hope you're not badmouthing Discworld Noir.

    I'm a die-hard Rincewind fan.

    Same here, man.

Well, I started playing Indy Infernal again recently, after a 6 month hiatus. That Ice monster, I'm afraid to say is only about 1/3 of the way through the game. Some of the later levels are very good, the best being the one with the minecarts. Great fun, especially when coupled with the bazooka.

However I'm now in the final level, the Aetherium. Who's stupid idea was that? It's so ridiculous. The only reason I'm keeping on playing is that I know there's a Monkey Island bit hidden in there somewhere, and there's a "bonus" Raider's of the Lost Arc level that I'm dying to see.

The worst thing about Infernal is that you have to holster your weapon to pick up coins / open doors, climb ladders etc. It just slows the pacing down so much - and how many time do you open a door to find a russion with a sub machine gun on the other side, wasting you in the 3 seconds it takes to draw your gun.

Hey, new Indy game makers, you paying attention here?

    Uhh. It's already announced.

    Screenshots = maybe.
But remember it's taken a year for KOTOR screenshots (which I still haven't seen - I assume they're posted on Lucasarts.com next week). So don't hold your breath.

EDIT: Spoke too soon. Dan's posted a link in the KOTOR thread. Yowzers!

Man, all you do is save money and you can go back to the temple in Peru where Indy took the idol in Raiders. It's cool. What you want to do, in the monkey island bit [or pressing ~ and typing, IIRC, makemeapirate], is fire the bazooka, it's cool as! Flying chickens!
I think a FP Indy game is needed. Not shooting, but an intelligent piece like the Greatest Game of All Time, Deus Ex.

Why save 2500 bucks (that could be spent on medkits, bazooka rockets, machine gun clips and grenades) to buy a map that you automatically get at the end of the game anyway?

That's not the real Monkey Island bit - that's only a cheat. The Monkey Island tie in is in the Aetherium, and it's very tough to get to.

BTW - I liked the Aetherium.

In the latest Official Xbox Magazine they have a article on what games could be shown at E3 for the xbox. Under lucasarts they listed "Indiana Jones & The Emperor's Tomb" as a behind closed door title.

i will try to get a scan of it

    Emperor's Tomb, eh?

Sounds like it could indeed be set in the far east, as speculated in this E3 2002 thread.

If the above concept art is from Indy Emperor's Tomb, then I think we've already found one of the enemies.

As for the timeframe, your guess is as good as mine.

One day I'm going to do an entry about Indiana Jones & the Infernal Machine. It depressed me so much, I just couldn't take it anymore after a week or so. All he did was running and hitting a wall, and hitting a wall and moving a block.

Disillusioned Jones And The Temple Of Doom.

It's funny, I'm not much of a game person, but recently, due to an overwhelming amount of free time, I've rediscovered the game of gaming. Which actually means I'm doing Battlegrounds a lot. Does anyone have it? Don't you think the way a character's sentence is cut off when you move him is hilarious? Try it on Qui-Gon Jinn.

    "The FORCE is my--"

    "The FORCE will guide--"

    "The FORCE--"

Anyway, back to the topic. I hope this Indy game will at least be as enjoyable as Crusade.

    PRESS:

INDY'S BACK! FAMED ACTION HERO FOR ALL GENERATIONS RETURNS IN LUCASARTS' INDIANA JONES® AND THE EMPEROR'S TOMB?

Indy is Tougher Than Ever in this Heart-Stopping, Globe-Spanning Action Adventure for Xbox?, PlayStation®2, and PC

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- May 8, 2002 -- Indiana Jones is back and better than ever! From the crocodile-infested waters in Ceylon to the bustling streets of Hong Kong, perennial action hero Indiana Jones' wits, agility, whip lashing and hand-to-hand combat skills will be put to the test as never before in Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb from LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC. The exhilarating third person action-adventure is expected to release fall 2002 for Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PC. The game is being developed in collaboration with The Collective, Inc.

Indy's latest adventure plays out in dramatic fashion thanks to new gameplay features such as brawling combat. This time, in addition to using his trademark whip and pistol, Indy can engage in fierce hand-to-hand combat against foes, many of whom are well-versed in martial arts. Improvised weapons such as shovels, chairs and table legs also can be used to fend off adversaries. The result is a more immersive and more Indy-like gameplay experience, set amidst spine-tingling movie-like action sequences, such as a rickshaw chase in Hong Kong and a spectacular battle atop moving gondolas in the South China Sea area.

Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb features The Collective's proprietary 3D engine that supports completely immersive, highly interactive environments. The game will offer 10 levels, all set in unique locales such as a 15th century castle that looms over Prague, an underwater palace in Istanbul, and a mountaintop fortress in China. A sophisticated camera tracking system makes sure that the player always has an optimal view of the third-person action. "Indiana Jones is back in a bold new way that players have never seen him," says Tom Byron, director of product marketing for LucasArts. "Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb faithfully recreates all the heroism, action and edge-of-the-seat adventure of the blockbuster film series thanks to a state-of-the-art game engine, a rich story, and compelling gameplay."

Indy's whirlwind adventure, set in the Far East in 1935, plunges him into an international crisis of terrifying magnitude. As the game begins, a powerful underground Asian society, the Black Dragon Triad, and a German mercenary, Albrecht Von Beck, have formed an unholy alliance in the hopes of acquiring the Heart of the Dragon, a black pearl that gives its possessor the power to mold minds. Rumored to be buried in the crypt of China's first emperor, it has been safely hidden for more than two thousand years. Now, with this unwelcome coalition in desperate pursuit of one of the most powerful artifacts known to man, it's up to Indy to prevent the Heart of the Dragon from falling into the wrong hands. Indy enters the race for the Heart at the behest of Marshal K'ai, an Asian businessman who asks him to retrieve the pearl and return it to the government of China. But in order to retrieve the Heart, Indy must first traverse the world to find and assemble the three scattered pieces of the Dragon Seal, the key to unlocking the crypt. Jones is aided in his search by K'ai's stunningly beautiful assistant, Mei Ying, who helps him throughout this epic conflict.
