I almost posted outside this forum (by accident) in some of the speculation on Indy V.
To fix the situation, I'm making this thread.

I've got mixed feelings because I didn't like the direction they took with Crystal Skull. Generally, I don't like David Koepp's writing or Shia's acting. Beyond that I just didn't like the introduction of aliens into Indiana Jones lore. I thought it was fine without ETs or inter-dimensional whatevers. With that said, I thought Harrison still brought his A game and there were parts of the film that were really fun. Indiana Jones in the Cold War era is an interesting issue to explore further. There is great potential there.

I'd still like to see another film (and hopefully a better one.) I'm not a writer or a creative type but something with the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Moscow, Australia or China would be solid. Additionally, it would be better without Shia and the whole family tagging along. They should have a limited role (if at all.) They could always make the fifth film a prequel to the fourth (and thus avoid the family plotlines.) Temple of Doom was a prequel to Raiders...so I don't see why not.

    Thoughts?

Showing Indiana taking on the Nazis in WWII would make an interesting prequel. But I think some more should be done with the cold war. Maybe something to do with Egypt or the China 10000 man army or something. But the cold war era should be done more. And the family tagging along gives it a bit more humor and in a way problem for him like he always has in the other films, although the people weren't always his family tagging along.

When it was announced that Indy IV was being filmed, I was thrilled. No questions asked, no second thoughts. But this...I'm not so sure about. I loved KOTCS, and even ended up developing an affection for Mutt Williams after some time. It was an extremely well-done film, and the alien concept was something that was new and innovative, especially for the Indy franchise.

But now...it kinda seems like they're doing it to death. Steven and George will probably pull something off, but with the direction that the Indy franchise seems to be taking lately, and that's southward, I can't help but thinking that this is a last-ditch effort to save it from dying.
