Is a Sith a happy person? Do you think they feel comfortable with their lifes?

The simple answer is "no".

The more complicated answer would revolve around "concerning what?"

A Sith can laugh...a sith can have fun...a sith can find pleasure in things...perverted joys.

But just as in our world...a smiling face can be a giant lie...and "comfort" at any holistic level is counter-intuitive to why a person would become a Sith in the first place.

Most folks who are happy and comfortable with their lives don't rush off to learn and/or be corrupted by the shadowy blackness of the universe...and those things, once found, don't provide much in way of comforts, and the distractions that could, matter less and less as the power consumes more and more.

If a Sith ever leaned back, smiled, and thought "I've done real well as a Sith...I'm impressed with myself"...that's the moment the apprentice is jabbing a lightsaber down his spinal cord.

I think it's a very subjective matter. In general, the Sith want something. If they get it, they want more. So there's always something missing, something that's driving them onwards. So while they might think they're satisfied with their life, the truth is that they'll never be.

That's the philosophical side of it. To see it more practical, I think Sidious had a few really great days during and after the execution of The Revenge Of The Sith. Still, I doubt he's the guy to wake up in the morning with a concubine at his side, ordering breakfast and congratulating himself on his beautiful life. I'd think he'd spent most of his off-time searching for the immortality recipe. Same with Vader. One minute, he's owning Old Ben , next he's just got a cloak at his feet . What next?

And in the end, you can feel really comfortable with your life just because you know nothing else, or because you gradually moved to the point you're at right now. Are you really happy with your day to day job? Not really. But do you feel uncomfortable with it? Maybe not so much.

That's why Sith Lords mostly look like complete train wrecks (yes, I meant you, Sion) - they do not know when to take it easy.

 

In general, I would say no, though I agree if any Sith did feel comfortable with their life, it was Palpatine, who is probably the most successful and powerful Sith to date. But even he had more plans and was probably always watching his back etc.


The Sith seem like heroin addicts or something. Power is really the only thing on their mind, and all they are concerned with is how they're going to get more. Their quest for power destroys who they were, and reduces them to evil, power hungry monsters. We see a great first hand look at this in LOTF. Jacen, in his quest for power, falls really hard, really fast in the course of just a few short months.

I don't think The Sith have any idea what it is to feel peace and therefore true happiness. I would call peace the most basic and essential variety of "happy" there is. The Sith can be ecstatic. By all of the laughing Palpatine did fighting Yoda you'd think he was freaking Santa Clause but they aren't happy. They're drunk. They can't feel peace because they can't touch love or compassion. They can't watch a small animal feeding and simply love the universe and its passive complexity. They have to own, acquire and destroy to feel...anything. How would a Sith Lord do on a planet with little life and nothing to dominate? Not so great. But a Jedi would survive and find a modicum of peace in a life of solitude. They are in tune with everything. The Sith are not. I suspect when they are unable to utilize Sith skills, they have literally nothing else going on inside or to live for.

 

Isn't that true of almost all people who have some kind of drive?

To answer the question, yes I believe a Sith could lead a happy, enjoyable life for the simple reason that one does need to be a good person to enjoy life!

It's more like how many deeply happy heroin addicts do you know? Sure they live for the drug and the high but ultimately they need more to get by. Bad people without such massive vices can enjoy their deviance more than one who's deviance is driven by something that hollows you out physically, mentally and emotionally. Being bad can make you happy but being bad with the use of the Dark Side has a large cost. If the cost is worth it to you, well then...

 

People (and I reckon aliens as well) are as different as any snowflake to the next. But not in appearance necessarily, rather deep down in their character. The modern standard of goodness isn't the standard that every person in history was used to, and that's where the morale lies. With the upbringing and the environment you live in you pick up the moral standards and the lines as to what's good and what's bad. That's where the guilt lies - if you don't follow what you see as good for yourself and the tribe, you'd most likely feel you've done something wrong, aka guilt.

A Sith born into the Sith society would feel good about their ways, because they would feel it's correct. A Jedi turned Sith would however most likely be in a great conflict with themselves, because the teachings they were brought up with taught them to oppose the Sith.

It's like saying atheists are evil and can't enjoy life because they don't embrace an entity and it's standards a theist would believe existed, and vice versa. There's no proof of humans having any moral stance ingrained before they are taught to them.

 

How about people who have vices like alcohol or weed but don't let it take over their lives? They can live just a happily as those without vices. Just because most of the sith we see are consumed by the dark side does not mean no sith can ever lead a happy life.
