It's official. EGM is teh suck.

Their October Game of the Month is Beach Spikers. It beat out Super Mario Sunshine (9.5, 9.5, 9.0), SOCOM (8.5, 7.5, 8.0) , Kingdom Hearts (7.5, 9.0, 9.0), TimeSplitters 2 (8.5, 8.5, 8.5), and Onimusha 2 (9.0, 8.5, 8.5). Wow.


Their review:

Best Feature: Lots of customizable options
Worst Feature: Not enough variety of bikinis

9.5, 10, 9.5 (keep in mind IGN gave this an 8.2 and GameSpot an 8.1)

It's true SMS didn't get GOTM, but it wasn't Beach Spikers that beat it. That honor goes to CastleVania: Harmony of Dissonance, A Game Boy Advance game!

Anyway, some pretty high scores this month. CastleVania, Mario, Animal Crossing and SOCOM all averaged over a 9!

 

It doesn't surprise me that Castlevania got game of the month. Helluva game.

 

Personally I think most game ratings are messed because you've got different reviewers with different standards and different tastes. I don't listen to the masses about most things but I like the websites that let viewers rate each category as well. It gives a better feel, although trendyness can have it's effects as well. I remember one reviewer giving UFC-Tapout a 9.0. This game has got to be the worst I've played in years. I mean it was the absolute worst in terms of gameplay. Meanwhile they gave Spiderman a 7.5 and other games like Morrowind etc lesser scores to UFC. Yeah I think somebody's been paid off

 

Not to mention, they gave WM X8 a 8.0 or something, calling it one of the greater wrestling titles. Maybe since it is the only wrestling game for the GC, but it is nothing in terms of gameplay, compared to the AKI titles (No Mercy, WM 2000), or the great Fire Pro Wrestling D. Personally, reviews mean nothing to me, it's all about how I feel about the game after trying it out.
