    But he loves you. :p

Seriously though, there are plenty of directors they could have hired but like him or not, at least JJ is a known quantity. Lets wait and see how TLJ does before we start getting uptight about the job he's going to do.

I get the feeling some of you seem to have regarding frustration towards critics of these movies, but you have to see that for a long period of time it was a mainstream part of this fandom to hate another trilogy, and this bad attitude is not going to vanish by asking people to not post their thoughts. Other people have different opinions, no matter how stupid they may seem to yourself, and they have every right to post their concerns and complaints. I strongly disliked TFA. I see many movies in the cinema and at home, but none have ever made me feel as uncomfortable and disappointed as that movie did. Was it partly my fault for getting so hyped? Sure, but there are so many valid critiques of that film that have been discussed at length on here and elsewhere on the net. I see no need to contribute to such discussions more than I already have, because is comes across as desperate like those who still hark on about their feelings towards the PT. I also don't keep posting my issues with TFA because I understand the feeling of seeing constant criticism/bashing towards films I love, so I wouldn't want others to feel the same (I imagine many other posters on here probably operate this way, too). My dislike for TFA still isn’t going to stop me from being interested in what is happening in the franchise, because I love Star Wars, and want to know all the new potentially interesting things, even if I don’t like the format they are presented. I like buying the action figures (if I end up not liking the film they're from, I just sell them on or bin them). I want to know the rumours and see the leaked images, so I will visit this section of the forum. Laughing at the fact people complain but still go to the midnight showing, or buy the merch, or comment in this area, is an entirely mute point. I can’t help but feel those of you who get riled up at criticism need to take a step back and 'just breathe’. You’re in for a rough ride if you don’t, as the past 18 years have proven for PT/Saga/EU lovers.
But yeah, as you can imagine I'm not exactly thrilled by this news. Hopefully he proves his track record and my worries wrong, because I'll still be there opening night and afterwards. SW for life!

The "praise" TFA received was and remains a complete and total mystery to me...

TFA was insulting to me. And I know I'm not alone.

Do I think Luke might die with JJ at the helm? Yeah I do, actually.

Yeah cool that means my opinion is wrong, right? Or maybe, Finn was the main new character that I did like out of TFA, in spite of everything else. I'm not an absolutist.

What's wrong with liking characters in movies you hate? I like the Unsinkable Molly Brown character in Titanic, but I think the rest of that movie is garbage. :p

Now that's a movie I would pay good money to watch [face_laugh]

They seriously need to hire these people to make Holiday Special 2 with the TFA cast. Rey and Finn visit Chewie's family and watch some VR porn and Gormaanda cooking show.

I completely understand that we cannot actually bet money or likely anything of any real world value other than say, your pride on this --- but yes, you will be. If this is a pure semantics play -- and you just won't be in line because you have a friend at the theatre walk you in with no waiting -- sure. You win.

They often bet in other forums to self-ban -- why not that? If you do not go see Episode 9 then I leave TFN after what will be ~18 years ---- if you do go see the movie then you must never come back to TFN after a measly 5 years. Deal?

Well, I do like the Han rescue even though sometimes the directing was OTT.

I'm obviously just stating what I think and what aspects of ROTJ I hope IX avoids. Plenty of people like those parts of ROTJ myself included though that doesn't stop me from thinking it was a downgrade storywise after ESB. Endor has some enjoyable aspects but is nowhere near as dramatically compelling as one would hope for the "final battle".

I don't think you realize that Arndt just wasn't up to the task and should have been replaced with someone who COULD work Luke into TFA.

Then his body uses the Force to send his severed head to headbutt the Knights of Ren to death. Both his head and body then ascend into the heavens, never to be seen again.

Having a character named Khan makes it a rehash of Wrath of Kahn? I really hope you're joking.

Maybe I am an optimist but I think JJ will make a better movie than TFA. He will look at what he can improve upon and he will use all of his resources to make the best film possible. You guys really think Disney doesn't read the internet? You really think JJ will do Endor part 2 Wicketts Revenge? Trust me they know some of the fans thought TFA was very similar to ANH. Why do you think all they have been talking about how DIFFERENT TLJ is? Remember before TFA they kept talking about practical effects, that is because they knew some fans did not like the look of the PT. Disney wants to make money so don't think for a second they will rehash ROTJ because they know long term that will effect how much money they will make. Why would they purposely shoot their self in the foot? Don't worry JJ will make improvements and if he doesn't KK will fire him.

Does renting it count? I'll probably check it out just out of curiosity eventually, but I have no interest in seeing another Abrams Star Wars movie in theaters.

But Star Trek 09 wasn't a rehash of a previous Trek. Not to mention:

    a) he utilised Khan because of the reset timeline
    b) apart from Khan the films plot was different

A lot of it comes from PT-centric fans that resent what they see as JJ's PT-dissing marketing campaign. I think they are way over-reacting, but I can understand it to some degree. There are also a small group of OOT fans who will hate anything, regardless.

I posted this earlier in the thread, but to quote Nick Meyer himself at https://trekmovie.com/2014/10/10/ex...ray-reacts-to-into-darkness-death-scene-more/ :

TrekMovie: How did you feel about the death scene between your ‘Wrath of Khan’ and the one in ‘Into Darkness?’ Some fans felt it was a bit of a rip-off of the scene in Star Trek II. Did you see it as an homage to Star Trek II? Did you feel privileged that the scene was recreated in such a way?
Nicholas Meyer: Well, you have to be flattered that somebody wants to sort of try and make your movie again. But the difference is between a rip-off and an homage is that you are supposed to add something.

Definitely. But still, it's like going back to your dusty old bed after sleeping on your basement floor for a week. Better, but nothing to write home about.

So I guess the planets/enviorments for Episode XI will be a desert (a REAL desert as well of course) and a forest. And maybe another forest. And maybe another forest with some snow? Or, if we're really lucky we might get a forest with rain?

No chance of seeing anything new or original or interesting in these movies whatsoever I'm assuming? :(
