Discussion James Mangold’s First Jedi Film

James Mangold is directing a film about the First Jedi set 25,000 years before ANH. Let’s discuss!

 

I’m wondering about what date they will decide to nail down, since the new canon has been a bit wishy washy between 25,000 and 10,000 years before ANH as the founding of the Order.

 

So we're really getting something like this?



Didn't think I'd see the day.

 

Guess we did not get a release date yet for this one.

James Mangold is a very solid director choice anyway, and Lucasfilm clearly must be happy with his work on Indy 5 then.

 

Well I knew they'd eventually get around to making a movie about the first Jedi. Mangold is a great pick but oh boy telling the story of the first Jedi is a major gamble and Star Wars track record is so spotty that I'm not confident that this movie will work, if it even sees the light of day. We shall see.

 

This sounds very interesting!

 

I wonder if this what Rian Johnson was gonna do, given that he introduced the Prime Jedi and all.

 

This is currently my most anticipated of the upcoming projects. Can’t believe they’re getting Mangold to make a Dawn of the Jedi film!

This project inspires hope more than other announced films, Mangold is a great director.
Also the Rakata were already mentioned in Andor...

 

"If it even sees the light of day" is straining under the weight from the rest of this sentence that it has to carry.

Awesome news, ancient Star Wars has more appeal to me then post ST.

 

I’m most excited about seeing what the galaxy looks like this far into the past. I hope we get Rakata. They’ll probably be the main enemy. Damn, this is so cool!

 

Awesome news and delighted that they are going back to the very beginning. Will be interesting if this ends up being the Ach-To Jedi or if this even pre-dates them. They can really do anything they want and there is huge room for storytelling potential here. The old EU had one comic series and one novel set back that far and then jumped immediately to a few thousand years before the movies (and that was mainly video games).

 

I'm scared this will get cancelled for "creative differences". This has the most potential of all the movies they just announced. He already has miraculously survived one round of Lucasfilm with Indiana Jones 5 but if that isn't received well looking at their track record we aren't getting this movie .

 

I think it's really cool that two of the movies announced today are set at, respectively, the earliest and latest points in the timeline we've yet seen. We're getting the mother of all origin stories for the Star Wars galaxy, and the next chapter after the Skywalker saga. My brain is spinning.

 

Finally we are gonna see the REAL baby Yoda

 

Ahch-To and the First Jedi incoming.

 

How much inspiration do you think they will take from the Dawn of the Jedi EU books (well. actually there was just one).

 

The first Jedi was stranded on Ahch-To and over time his species devolved into Porgs.

 

By my math, Yoda would be –24,100 years old at this point

 

Please no lightsabers…I know…shocking thing to stay for a Star Wars film.

But a unique thing about this era is they have yet to invent lightsabers (make the first saber at the end of the era).

Hopefully no “forcesabers” either.

I want force imbued swords. Love seeing sword fights in Star Wars, really get that ancient feel.

 

This film sounds potentially really interesting.

And Mangold is a great filmmaker.
