About halfway through it - right now, I'm leaning towards "Still Life", because I'm in the mood to judge them on the song-video combination and that's my favorite (good tune, clever video).

I literally just discovered the helpful little commentary/guide that leads you through the songs. This whole thing is a growth process for me.

I understand we're starting with a high difficulty one..while a few songs are in English, most are at least partly in Korean and that certainly makes it harder! Hope you enjoy my commentaries and the playlist Wocky. The YouTube one all has subtitles too

It’s not hard because they’re in Korean, it’s hard because they’re all good songs. :p

I went with Arson. Still Life, More & Devil at the Window were in serious contention. I loved how Devil at the Window had those very different stylistic sections. Started with that sexy bass groove and then went kind of pop and then ended up pretty ethereal after shuttling around between the genres a few times. But I loved Arson already and I cannot express how happy that little drum break at the end makes me; it just goes in a totally different direction for like three seconds and that just pushed Arson over the top for me. Fun playlist overall.

The sultriness of Sexy Nukim is rather fantastic, hence why it got my vote. Run BTS almost got my vote, though; niiiiice, energetic beat there.

Glad someone really vibed with Arson. Jhope was known before this album for upbeat pop-hip hop, and really spent a lot of time on Arson in particular he said. He asked himself if he'd rather stick to his old standards, or light the fire of creativity and burn himself in the process and.... Well, chose the latter

Here's his very cathartic live performance last year at Lollapalooza

Sexy Nukim is such a singularly unique song to me. I love that it's getting so much love here, because it wasn't a chart topper or anything, just a song Collab I love.

Run BTS was the band's last song before they had to start their several year military break. "Bulletproof" is what their Korean name Bangtan translates to. I don't remember if I mentioned that, but I just really love that song. It's such a fun celebration of the group and their ten years up to then.

So it's past midnight here anyway, and I'm gonna declare the winner. First, I must say I'm pleased you let me take you on a journey through very recent Korean music of different genres.

Ultimately, it came down to the vibes and grooves of Run BTS, the experimental rap on everyone's sexiness by Balming Tiger ft. RM, and then there was one....

Our winner is Still Life by RM ft. anderson .paak. A really great song that's fun but means a lot to me.

"What a poor flex, hon, 'look at my chain'
Me rather do it like 'look at my stain.'

This line preps the whole album, which is hip hop that has nothing to do with showing off. It's all from the heart. His art is about looking at the ugly parts of himself, exploring those.

And this beings us to the song's overarching conclusion, something I'll get tattooed someday, and words I've been living by daily....

Life is better than the death, I'll prove it

Congratulations Still Life and it's writers Kim Namjoon and anderson .paak

As a bonus, here's a live performance with just RM from his Tiny Desk performance. RM isn't a singer but this version still has heart with him doing it all.

Thank you for coming to my trendy Korean music lecture.

I mentioned in an eariler JCC Mixtape how my introduction to the music I liked was through music videos; I won't rehash that here, but as I did here I will judge the songs selections by the strength of their videos as well.
"Still Life" had a cool concept to it - simple, and fun, with a return to start much like Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice" video. Well done.
