Jedi: Mace Windu - Schism Discussion

wow- awesome friggin update!

It's as if the dramatis personae was placed tehre soley for me and my Battle of Geonosis Jedi Sruvivors trhead :

 

I got it and R50, I'll post a summary in a bit.

 

SUMMARY



SPOILERS!!!!











It begins on the planet Lianna in the Tion Cluster, where Mace and othe Jedi attend the funeral of Master Cei Vookto.

Afterwards, Yoda, Tholme, Quinlan and Mace converse, "Many masterless Padawans have we now. More we will." Yoda says.

Quinlan Vos reports on the Jedi dissidents and how the four leaders of the dissidents: Jeisel, K'kruhk, Rhad Tarn and Mira have been united under Sora Bulq. Mace is surprised to hear of Sora- who taught lightsaber instryction at the temple and helped Mace develop Vaapad, Form VII.

After questioning if Quinlan is out of practice with his lightsaber (due to his udnercover work), Quinlan and Mace spar (after Tholme and Yoda decline "Practice I had with Count Dooku, sufficient that was.") as Quin continues his report. Quin says the dissiedents have agreed to a meeting on Sora's family estate on Ruul (a small moon orbiting the weequay homeworld of Sriluur. There is one condition- they will only speak to one who can speak for the whole council, they want Mace to go. Mace asks Quin not to hold back, and so Quinlan makes a strong strike that alarms Mace, who force shoves Quin away from him. Mace says that was a Form VII manuever, which he warns is close to the darkside- something someone who walks too close to it as Quinlan does should not attempt to use. Quin informs him that Sora had instructed him during his reeducation.

Quin departs with Tholme, for a mission on Brentaal IV as Mace and Yoda converse.

Elsewhere, Ventress confronts some some giant dragonsnake-like creatures with her sabers as she approaches Dooku's castle.

Dooku welcomes her, and informs her of the coming meeting between the Jedi and the dissidents- he wants her there to prevent this. He also lets her know that Windu was chief among those responsible for abandoning her master, Ky Narec. "Then he is faithless and deserves to die."

Mac is greeted by Sora on Ruul at his estate- which is being renovated by droids since he's never had need for it before. Sora mentions how he trained almost every Jedi who died at Geonosis, and he does not think the Republic was worth that. He has absented himself from taking sides yet until he can clear his feelinsg and thoughts about th matter. Sora then goes to summon the others.

K'kruhk emerges froma nearby waterfall, Mace says that they had thought him dead and that he was glad to see him still alive. K'kruhk recalls that duringa battle, he was asked to do the opposite of what he was taught- to preserve life- when sending men to their deaths.

Jeisel, a female devaronian clears a path nearby with her saber. She fears how they can serve the corrupted Republic and not become corrupted themselves. Mace replies that they serve the principles of the republic, but she counters that even if the Republic could change- how do they know it won't change into something worse?

Sora returns with Mira and Rhad Tarn. Mira believes that the war represents a failure to listen.Rhad is upset that the Republic doesn't care about the slave trades and illegal prisons, that the senate does not can so long as its pockets bulge- the Jedi should be fighting with the Confederacy. Sora adds that he does not feel he can support the Republic. Afterwards, they adjourn for the evening. Sora and Mace return to the estate, K'kruhk remians to meditate by vthe flowing water, the othes go to sleep or meditate.

After Sora finishes bringing Mace to his quarters, outside Sora is ambushed by Ventress, the two engage in saber combat with their dual sabers.

Jeisel and Mira sense the confrontation and go to assist Sora.

Ventress mildly grazes Sora as Mira engages Ventress. Ventress easily disposes of her. The others arrive and Ventress easily defends herself against their attacks. Then Mace arrives. Mace asks who she is- she replies that she is his humble servant, she trusts he is pleased.

Ventress takes off as they attend to Mira, who hey find is dead. Rhad accuses Mace of bringing the assasin, since no one can land on Sora's land without him knowin

 

Now, for my reaction and comments

Great issue!!!

(possible spoilers though)


A very cool story, and I like how all the characters had their own valid complaints about the why they had become dissident. The twist with Sora was surprising but logical too.

Perhaps my only minor criticism was that Rhad seemed a tad Anakin-ish and his tun was predictable, though as a sideresult, it showed that Ventress can push the right buttons in people, which was cool.

And, hey, gotta love the dual/double balded saber thing, neato :


Hopefully, we'll get more of K'Kruhk in the future too :
