i've seen some helpful threads on jedi/sith costumes, but didn't find anything concerning this:
for those of you who have detachable EL blades for your lightsabers, how to you go about 'storing' them until ready for use? i read somewhere a long time ago about people sewing long, slender pockets into their jedi/sith robes to carry their blades when not in use. has anyone experimented with this? if so, what is the best location to sew the pocket, and how exactly did you do it?

I imagine the best bet would be to sew a pocket on the inside flap of one of your outer robes, kinda like General Grievous in RotS. Just cut a rectangle of fabric just long enough for your blade and as wide as you want it plus 1 inch. From there, press a half inch seam allowance on all sides. Then sew it directly onto the inside of the robes/cloak with matching thread, leaving only the top side open. The key is just positioning it in a place where it won't be noticed or cause the robe to hang funny.

I've noticed that on Ebay there are carrying cases that claim to be designed for carrying the FX Lightsabers, in Jedi and Sith versions. I imagine you could just store the shorter blades themselves in there instead, and wear them however you like as they do have shoulder or belt straps, which, although throwing off the costume accuracy some, I think would be more practical than storing it in your cloak.

If your robe is not lined, and you sew it in place, that stitching will show on the out side.

I made just such a pocket, but I ironed it on with a fusible product call stitch-witchery, the heavy duty type. The pocket is actually at the back of the robe and runs up near my left leg into the arms-eye of the left sleeve. I'm quite short. I can walk and even sit down with it there and it's not really obvious.

heres an idea. It would be kind of strange, but like have the pocket on the outside of the cloak and have it on the back up near the shoulders so that you can just reach over your shoulders and grab is, like a sword, lol.

I have an idea, maybe you could make a fabric tube of the same fabric as your robe. Big enough to accomidate the saber length and width wise. Sew one end shut and sew the tube into one of the side seams. I would not be seen from the outside nor would it be obvious from the inside.
    Just a thought, good luck!
