So I had been mostly ignoring LEGO's take on the Star Wars galaxy, even though it's been clear for awhile now that they're starting to tell their own stories within a LEGO version of the Star Wars universe. They're mostly humorous, so I saw no reason to take them seriously.

But then I saw a couple of ads for their latest series of mini-movies, the Yoda Chronicles, and it gave me pause. "Who is Jek-14?", the ads ask, and there's an interesting picture of some kind of Force-using clone. Apparently, he's set to debut in an episode of the Yoda Chronicles on the 29th. Not surprisingly, he'll have his own starfighter set, which looks like an early incarnation of an E-Wing, of all things.

I think this is the first time LEGO has created a non-humorous major character on their own. Action figure creations have always been considered to be part of the canon, but what about LEGOs? Obviously the Yoda Chronicles don't take place in the EU as we know it, but does Jek-14 exist in the EU? And if so...who is he?

Where is Abel? I demand an Atha Prime tie-in to this.

You shouldn't ignore Lego Star Wars for the simple reason that for the last 10 years or so, they have been coming out with good video games, mini-animations that can be seen on youtube, two page comic books in their Lego Magazine, and two good animated shows. Now they they have a 3 parter with Yoda Chronicles. Plus, they've had books that have been damn good, also not to mention very good sales for their lego star wars toys. Besides Dark Horse Comics, Lego Star Wars has developed into a consistent winner with their animations, video games, comic book, books, and toys. What is JeK-14 beats the hell out of me, but its going to be interesting thats for sure.

What I really should have said was that I had been ignoring it in terms of contributing to the Star Wars expanded universe specifically. All of the above are great, but they don't really add a lot to the EU. (That said, I do miss the days when LEGO would toss in a comic or two exploring the world of their own themes instead of Batman and Iron Man and what have you...)

On the other hand, I've been waiting for years to see the J-1000 supercomputer from the Droid Developer Kit worked into canon...

True, but it has been replaced by Hero Factory, which already has a pretty dense and well developed mythology even if it doesn't equal yet equal Bionicle. And Ninjago and Legends of Chima get all kinds of development.

But where's the Adventurer's YA series? Where's the DK Castle encyclopedia with a map of all the kingdoms? Where's the Time Cruisers monthly comic? The Brick Buildmore/Captain Indigo/Jim Spaceborn Space omnibus? Where was the LEGO Magazine spread with funny names for all of the 2009 Pirates? I keep hoping to see more things like the Atlantis/Alien Conquest/Pharaoh's Quest/Dino crossover comic...but okay, sure, I'd love to read about Toy Story or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or some other property I'm already familiar with. :p

The rights were sold and thus it could be called D-Canon. L-Canon would be available again after that, I guess.

This is pretty good stuff though. I love this lego stuff, and while it doesn't add much to the EU it sure brings a different exciting take to it

Wouldn't all the new stuff LEGO introduces be S-Canon, and whatever gets referenced rises to C-Canon? :-B
Yay, canon level discussion! What is TCW cooking now, I wonder?

Ok, so this one was actually funny. Like, a bunch of inside-jokes funny that only a fan would get. Battle-of-Hoth-bashing. Life Day party. Anakin quoting slasher films.

And speaking of slash: Grievous and Dooku getting it on.
