Actually, I think you misunderstood what Jesus was saying. He said if someone strikes your right cheek, offer him your left as well. The majority of folks were right handed, so to strike someone's right cheek they would have to back hand you. Backhanding was how you struck a servant or lesser individual. Striking the left cheek would require an opened hand slap or a punch. Basically he was saying, don't let anyone push you around. Fight me like a man, as an equal. No one is any better than anyone else, we're all sinners.

It is [i]you[/i] who has misunderstood what Jesus was saying.
He was portraying an example of nonconditional compassion, loving one's enemy as much as one would love ones' self. That the basic human attribute of [i]Revenge[/i], is a useless one.
