Everytime I see this suggestion my eyes burn. The concept of Plageuis was stupid (a guy who can cheat death is killed?) and as it went nowhere in the prequels it always seem wasted, and then the context within which it was introduced revealed Anakin was an airhead. In short, I won't deny that because he's simply prequel nonsense, I don't like the character, so the idea of him coming back in any form is also something I don't like. Leave him dead.

Well, but that is a matter of personal preference. My biggest fear before TLJ is that Rey's parentage reveal would seem forced. I was expecting some kind of silly explanation for her secretly being Kylo's sister. The way Snoke explains her "lineage" is one of the best things about the movie, and adds to the previous SW lore IMO, which is that the Force will always intervene when darkness rises. And it allows this very theme to be continued in future movies as well.

At the end of the day, everything is going to be a repetition of some sort at some point. Rey being a Solo would have been a similar conflict to Luke vs Vader, only this time between siblings instead of father and son. We have also seen what we seem to have with the ST, which is the female character trying to redeem the male one who has turned evil.

I don't think that the concept was stupid at all. Being able to keep people from dying isn't the same as being invincible. It's not like he could randomly go Oprah and say "you live, and you live, and you live, everyony lives!", it's something that should require a lot of skill to pull off, and may not be something you can just use to heal yourself on a whim. If you are even awake. If you are killed in your sleep, it is kind of hard to do something about it.

Where things went wrong was when people took what was merely a backstory to lure Anakin to the darkside - and to suggest that Palpatine was the one who killed Plagueis - and tried to turn it into something bigger than that. It was never supposed to "go anywhere", the story itself was already completed, the seed planted into Anakin's head. It's like when people took a semi-competent bounty-hunter who looked cool but died a rather pathetic death, and went crazy with him. Suddenly a guy who was supposed to be dead was brought back and added to stories in the weirdest ways. Plagueis had one purpose in the whole story, he fulfilled that purpose, bringing him back would just not fit to how the story played out afterwards. He's dead, and it should stay that way.

Having JJ direct is an awful idea. The man has no originality what so ever ( just watch the force awakens )

I'll take quality over originality. Being new and bad isn't appealing to me.

This is a different concept from balance. Anakin came about due to the Force going out of balance because of the Sith. This is different from the normal back and forth between Light and Dark which is what had happened previously with the Jedi vs Sith of the past. What we see in the ST is like that.

There was no Chosen One then, the Force wasn't out of balance. If it ever was out of balance in the far past then it had nothing to do with the Jedi vs Sith conflict nor the Republic.

Rey is simply Light that has sprung forth to meet the darkness of Ren. Who is supposed to have been the one to battle the darkness of Snoke? Rey again because Luke left? If that is the case then Rey is a extremely direct avatar of the Light in a way that Anakin never was.

As the Chosen One who can effect both Light and Dark sides Anakin could be either (and was) while Rey who is only Light can use the Dark side, feel it's pull but never be in any jeopardy of actually going to the Dark side.

    Those are very different things.

Not at all. The point is not that he was immortal in some sci-fi way like Wolverine regenerating but that he could use the Force to manipulate the midi-chlorians. This wasn't going to stop him from getting killed if Sidious drove a Lightsaber through him.

Hardly. It was used exactly as it was supposed to be by Sidious. If Anakin is an airhead then what does that make everyone in the saga? "Come on this Force thing is nothing. It's all tricks."

One of the many underlying problems for the ST is that things that underpin I-VI don't mean much of anything. Skill, training, set-ups, pay-offs etc etc. Everything has a underlying Instamatic feel to it.

There is no character. He's only a figure. The character has yet to be created. It's like saying Padme was created in ROTJ. She wasn't.

While I love TFA, I'll take quality and something new, so well played, Rian Johnson.

I'm happy for a well-told story. Whether its similar to a previous story is irrelevant.

What do you listen to do more - new music or the best music over in your collection? Or put into Star Wars terms - have you watched the OT more than the PT or ST?

@MagnarTheGreat had a great comparison. Good cover band (TFA) vs bad cover band (TLJ).

I believe saying TLJ was original is a serious stretch. To each their own.

I don't think making Snoke Plagueis would work for IX. If it were to happen, it should have been set up with TFA, but that was never the creator's intention from what I can gather.

It is interesting to speculate about the ways that IX could tie the entire saga together. I personally think that the best way would be the actual rebirth of the Jedi Order. In the prequels, we see that the Jedi have a become bureaucratic, centralized, and militaristic, which is far removed from their original purpose. The OT is about the last of the prequel-era Jedi passing on what they have learned to Luke, who then uses that knowledge to attempt to restart the Jedi Order only to fail and realize that he needs to rethink the whole concept of the Jedi in the first place. With that in mind, I think that in IX, him and Rey will use what they've learned to create a Jedi Order that is wholly distinct from what they became in the prequels and more like they were originally conceived, thus completing the narrative arc.

This is wild assumption you've made that has no evidence to back it up.

The "evidence" is what is in the movies so far.

Rey over and again draws on the Dark side but it holds no sway over her.

Except that already happened to Luke in the first place and the point is that the Jedi way in itself is the right one. It's the interpretation of how to apply it that is the consideration which we saw already with Qui-Gon and his spiritual successor in Luke.

The idea that Luke somehow reflected the previous Jedi Order doesn't work because they are nowhere near that.

I don't see any of this making it to IX because that discussion is one that needed to be done already.

Where they go I just don't see based on VII and VIII. They can do anything they want. It's a restart again from virtual scratch for IX.

How do you know? It seems to me even Luke knows she is susceptible to it. She clearly has a shadow and it influences her actions.

I'd hoped RJ would take the job after CT was fired.

But JJ is an understandable, and strong, choice. Even better? JJ in a post RJ universe. I think he will be challenged, and spurned on, to create something that not only plays up his strengths for excitement, adventure and fun, but also not essentially remake ROTJ. I think JJ will be even better for following after RJ.

And no, I do not think his IX will be a repair job. Quite the opposite in fact.

Lucasfilm brought back Abrams for Episode IX for the same baseline reason he was hired for TFA: He's reliable.

I liked the pace JJ set in TFA. TLJ was a little slow imo, but I still liked it. I want to see Kylo leave FO. Join up with his knights of ren at mustafar. Have them plot for power to overthrow the FO.

Indeed, Abrams is doing an absolutely Herculean task. Re-writing 9, planning it, casting it, designing it, all in what? Six months before shooting? Crazy stuff.

I would ssy there was probably a clear idea of where things needed to go and which new new characters would appear before Abrams joined.

Kind of the same situation as with TFA.

Hey man that's brilliant and in many ways it rhymes with Kylo fooling snoke with the lightsaber right next to him sleight-of-hand misdirection fakeout slice. Nobody will ever see it coming when the First Order is taken over by their own leader it's like a twist of a twist--with a twist or maybe one of those kind of things in terms of a thing-like situation whatever they're called

oh and hey guys where's the Episode xI milk color prediction thread my uncle chet has this ridiculous theory you'll think is idiotic but really it kinda makes sense if you tilt your head a certain way
