I had read the JP book well before the first movie came out, so when I did see the movie, I have to say, I was pretty underwhelmed. I was expecting something that would delve into the scientific theories of cloning and DNA reconstruction, instead I saw a movie featuring Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neil running around with some stupid kids. It was too family friendly and too dumbed down for my tastes, and ruined the public's perception of what, up until then, and been a very intriguing and stimulating story.

I never heard that Lucas had any involvment in JP other than letting them use ILM.

I think JP4 would be good, IF it's as good a script as they say, IF Spielberg will take the helm, and IF they have Sam Neill return. If those all fall together, I think it would be AWESOME.

The Lost World was poorly done, IMO. I still thought it was a decent movie, but, it was too farfetched. The book was outstanding. If only they had followed the book, then TLW would have been a much bigger success.

EDIT: The movie could have used more raptors(like the book), some of the other characters like King, the Carnotaur part(damn, that woulda been sweet) and NO SAN DIEGO SCENE!! That was way too Godzilla. Yeesh!!

Precicesly! It would have been an ok movie (but nothing like the book) if not for the San Diego part :(

No particular reason. And why'd they get rid of Arby? And Levine!?

I know! I wanted to see Doc Thorne and Levine, they were great characters.

Kelly was a white poor girl in the book and Arby was rich black genius guy. I thought they had much more depth than Tim and Lex in JP, but Spielberg, or whoever wrote the script, thought it best to cut out Arby and make Kelly Malcolm's black daughter.

I dunno why they thought it was better.

Don't forget the age-switch of Tim and Lex from the original movie. It didn't affect the plot at all, but, I still thought it was odd.

I never thought about that... maybe Spielberg just picked two kid actors who were available and it forced them to switch ages. Who knows?

Maybe if Spielberg would do a director's commentary on either movie, he would provide insight on the weird changes.

Yah, I think the thing with Tim and Lex was just because of the actors they found. I thought Ariana and Joe were pretty good :)

I think the original Jurassic Park could have been a much better movie, with the inclusion of the following scenes:

    1) The "shooting the Tyrannosaurus" scene.
    2) The waterfall scene, with Grant/Lex/Tim.
    3) The "recapturing the dinosaurs" scene(s).

Actually, a lot more scenes, but what can you do?

I would have enjoyed to see the T-Rex Waterfall scene from the JP novel as well. I would have also liked to see the scene with the Pterodactyls and the ending with the Raptors getting to Costa Rica. Hell, the whole JP novel would have made really good scenes.

Oh, mama, you ain't kiddin!! That scene was my favorite in the whole book! I love how the Rex was described as leaning up against the tree like someone after eating too much. That really would have been an awesome scene.

The dactyls scene would have been good, too. I thought in JP III it was too forced. It really would have fit better in the original.

The Raptors on the boat would have been a slowdown for the movie. It also would have not fit in without changing the whole story.

Does anyone know why they made the sick dinosaur a Triceratops instead of a Stegosaurus?

Okay question in TLW when the ship crashes in to the dock how was everyone killed? I mean really someguys hand was on the wheel how did they get killed? not everyone could have been killed on the boat without going to the Rex pen

I agree. that part was overemphasized. I mean, how could the Rex have fit it's head through that tiny little door? I guess they just had to add smaller details. That is one of the scenes where I feel TLW failed miserably.

exactly my question....how did the T-Rex kill the boats driver when the animal is that big...and to only leave his hand? hen to return to the hanger like thing under the ship, after eating the guy whom controlled the main hatch in the first place. So how did the door close? many unanswered questions like these put me into areas I rather not go...

The fog killed them, just like in JP3 how the fog killed the sailors 8-}.

I always assumed that some raptors had snuck onboard and killed the crew in TLW. In JP3, the sailors were originally going to be killed by a Mososaur, a dinosaur that lived in the water. But I think due to special effects difficulties they couldn't do it.

But a Mososaur has been theorized for JP4.

    And like that...he's gone.

Yeah, the pterydactyls scene and t-rex waterfall scene from the book were great. But realistically, you had to cut something for time :(

A Mososaur huh? That's an unusual choice. I guess they plan on having some of it under or in water.

I always wanted to see the Carnotaurus' from the TLW novel. Predators with the ability to change color would have been really sweet.

Well you got to see ten seconds of a Carnotaurus in JP3 (Dino poop scene).

I loved how they described the Carnotaurus scene in TLW novel, too bad it wasn't included.

    And like that...he's gone.

That wasn't a Carnotaurus, it was a Ceratosaurus. I still thought it was a good addition though.

Yeah that boat scene really did not make any sense...
shakey, shakey...come out of fog and oh my gosh! men are gone!!!!!
I wish someone would of helped us to understand what happened. Then no body parts were left only a torn apart boat.
I always thought the Spinosaurs, attacked the boat..but I do not think he/she could swim.
    Oh well more unanswered questions...

The Spinosaurus could swim, watch the climax of the movie on the river, where the Spino swims up behind the boat.

The waterfall scene, which was in TLW movie, would have made a great addtion to JP. I also like the part when Robert Muldoon, who lives in the novel, is drunk and stuck in the pipe.

Also when Grant finds the Raptor nest in the end, possibly the best scene in the book, would have looked great on the screen.
