Your image is borked, so I can't see what pic you used, but it's an interesting choice, that I think I've only thought about once or twice when Whedon was attached to WW (when most of the rumors floating around was that he was going to cast Eliza Dushku or Summer Glau as Diana). I'd have to play around with Paint Shop Pro as every photo I've ever seen of her is with her hair is in various shades of blonde (yes, I know there have been blond Wonder Women, but WB may prefer to have the classic image of a brunette Diana), and having Diana appear sort of ice queenish at first may work, as that's basically the role they stuck Phoenix with for a good chunk of her WWE run.
I'm guessing DC is still terrified of making a WW movie after the horrificness of Catwoman. It has been almost a decade though.
I would have no worries about WW because of the Catwoman movie. No one involved could possibly be stupid enough to try that again. Right? It's simple, Clash Of The Titans meets Superman The Motion Picture and you get a good WW flick. The music, the as shown darker gladitorial costume. The George Perez stroyline origin in the 1980's was perfect. You could do that and lead it right into some sort of JL movie.
Joss was attached to do it. WB heavyhandedness came into play, put it in development hell, Joss left and did Avengers.
Casting a woman in her 40s as an immortal super-heroine at the outset of her super-career makes zero sense. If she's immortal, why is she showing signs of typical human aging? Rachel Weisz is probably my favorite actress working in the business, but she simply isn't right for the part. And Beckinsale doesn't have the acting chops, in addition to being too old. I like Smulders in the part. She has the look and is the right age.
Outset of her superhero career, not her life. She's hundreds of years old already. And the acting chops? For a justice league movie? I really doubt anyone special in that department is going to be cast anyway. Not that I think--or care, even--any of these names would be any good. I'm just saying a Hollywood actress pushing 40 is more than capable of portraying an immortal Amazon. Limiting it to someone who is in her 20s is arbitrary, and is probably unlikely to deliver in the acting department--something wb doesn't have a track record of putting first in their casting of dc movies anyway.
When Galadriel starts lassoing Eldar, deflecting bullets with Nenya, and flying in her invisible plane, I'll see no problem with it too
What does age have to do with that? Kate did many action movies nicely, her last movie Total Recall's performance is quite good.
Imagine a 40+ Christopher Reeve in Superman: The Movie and you'll see where I'm going with this. At the outset of her career, WW should be young. Are you familiar with her origin story? She's a naif when she's introduced to the world. The story doesn't work if she's visibly pushing 40.
With makeup it would not be a problem, Kate looks fine in Total Recall while it's not her best time. Bale was 38 when he played Batman in TDKR but nobody complained. Keaton was also 40 when he played Tim Burton's Batman.
Slowpoke, let's just go on record as categorically disagreeing with each other on every point each of us has ever made or will make in the future.
Imagine a 40+ Christopher Reeve in Superman: The Movie and you'll see where I'm going with this. Uh, no, I won't, really. Robert Downey Jr. is 48. He didn't seem to have a problem carrying Iron Man despite the action taking place mostly with him in his suit(which doesn't matter anyway, because most of any action scenes involving Superman would--and appear to--use CGI mostly), and there were some scenes with him out of his suit or mostly out of his suit in the latest film. Bruce Willis is 58 and he just starred in yet another action film(and still continues to). Obviously Bruce Willis doesn't play as Superman, I'm not saying he does. And my point is that a hollywood actress pushing 40 is usually different than what you might normally consider someone pushing 40 might look like. Kate Beckinsale is not "visibly pushing 40". And, again, she might be "young" in the eyes of her Amazon sisters, but she's not young. This is not a barrier to the character, especially with the way they use makeup and that sort of thing in movies. Anyway. This is really silly.
Fortunately your misapprehension of the character and the requirements of her origin story will have no bearing on the production.
Please. don't make joke on him. He did play Superman again when he was 35, the movie was bad but his appearance and performance was totally fine.
Kate Beckinsale is not great, but she can play WW well. WW does not need very high acting skill, as long as the actress' appearance fit her and has decent skill, that will be fine.
