To be fair, digital seems to work by different rules anyway. SG66 goes to his comic shop - there are no SW comics! "Pay the price for your lack of vision!" "NOOOOOOOOO!"
Spoiler I really hope Grey and/or Styles aren't killed off too quickly, I'd like to see them develop a little! Their hunting Kanan made this issue quite tense, along with all the tenuous alliances.
The next issue is the last one in this arc, so it's pretty likely. After this there's a oneshot set during Rebels, then the arc after that is pre-Order 66. Grey and Styles will probably get some development in that.
Another solid entry in this series. Nice ending too- you kinda know its coming in an abstract way but it's still startling when it actually happens.
Huh, so I thought the droid that busted Caleb out of prison looked familiar, and yeah, it's the same type of droid that Vizago has a bunch of in Rebels, the IG-RM.
Legends had come up with a couple of variants on that chassis (based on the same IG-88 concept art) long before they appeared in Rebels: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Uulshos_justice_droid http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Eliminator_434 It's a bit like the Legends All Terrain Attack Raider being created using the same concept art as the Rebels All Terrain Defense Pod.
I wonder if the clones are still under the chip's influence or not, or if they got turned off. I can't imagine them acting the way they are without them being under their influence. How horrible would they feel once they were released from the chips, realizing how they've tormented their former, beloved Jedi friends?
Maybe only ONE of the evil clone duo will survive the next issue leaving room for the other to become a recurring antagonist wanting to avenge his fallen brother.
I stuck below under spoilers in case it spoils this issue for any reader... Spoiler They did strike me as seriously stupid. They're now part of an Empire so why didn't they call in other units stationed across that sector of space and let them deal with Kanan? Much more likely to explain them finding them so fast, but this comes across as if they have a specific hatred of Kanan that really doesn't mesh with the competence and professional nature of the clone troopers so what gives? I think Kazmir or whatever his name gave over his contact on the world maybe he knew he was a former Separatist General and that's who they were there to ambush not Kanan.
Yeah, this pair seem like genuine thugs. Perhaps they're just frustrated over having to hunt this elusive Padawan, but they seem to relish their work in this issue.
Love that in TCW the clones were basically portrayed as nice guys with the chip being used as a plot device to preserve their innocence then Grey and styles in this arc have just regressed clones back to their original depiction of being just plain bad
Cody seemed to be being portrayed as a "nice guy" in the ROTS novel - just obeying conditioning which had been buried in him since "before he'd awakened in his creche". Cody responded as he had been trained since before he'd even awakened in his creche-school. "It will be done, my lord." Followed by: Cody was a clone. He would execute the order faithfully, without hesitation or regret. But he was also human enough to mutter glumly, "Would it have been too much to ask for the order to have come through before I gave him back the bloody lightsaber?"
This was a good read, especially when Kanan interacted with the former Sep General and they mutually wonder if they were ever truly enemies to begin with. Its interesting to show a Sep telling a Jedi how blind they were to the reality of the war. Seeing this conversation makes me wonder if we'll see more former Seps moving toward the eventual rebellion not only in the comics but the Rebels series as well.
Filoni mentioned in an interview that a significant number of clones were horrified after the chip's influence ended and they realized what they had done. Except that in the first issue, we see that they are nice guys who are good friends with Depa and Caleb. This is all quite clearly caused by the chip. I don't recall a time where that was ever the depiction of the clones.
Seems obvious to me: they're just fully embracing the idea that the Jedi were traitors because it's easier than acknowledging that they were forced to kill Depa.
That's why I'm hoping the ending is strong since it feels like this title is relying on cliffhangers that seem to work themselves out within the first couple of panles of the next issue. I love the Kanan comic but I'm nervous that it might not pay off in the end.
Love, love, love this issue!!! and the series overall.. Kasmir character is really cool and I like how they are starting to bond. Interesting plot twist with the former Separatist general and the ep III quote reference 'do what must be done' was a nice touch. Another cliffhanger... I really do hope that Spoiler they will get away different way than killing of Grey and Styles Can't wait for part 5
Hopefully not, cause it will mean he will part his ways with Kasmir But the next issue cover is intriguing...
