Discussion Kevin Feige to Produce New Standalone Star Wars Film

I did read along time ago that Kevin fiege might be producing the film, just not directing it

A credible source who used to work for variety or something said the other day that both this and the Taika film are “in deep development hell” and basically canceled.

I'm a bit skeptical of Taika's movie being in "in deep development hell". Development hell to me implies that Taika has written a full script and he's battling with the suits about the direction of the film and I don't think he's even finished the script. It's all semantics though because for one reason or another I don't think Taika will make a Star Wars movie. I expect that he'll walk away after trying and failing to crack the script.

 

I thought it was reported (or even stated by Taika) that he completed his script and turned it in for them to review, basically telling them to let him know if they ever wanted to work on it. And it sounded like it kind of died after that, either because they didn't like it or their focus just moved on to the next idea.

This article doesn't really say anything new or unexpected about either Feige's or Jenkins' movies, but it does say it again. I guess that's probably the most confirmation we'll get, since these seem to be some of those cases where LFL doesn't want to officially announce that something won't be happening.

 

The article doesn't say anything new with Star Wars. First comes the big announcement, people get excited, then sometime passes and then the cancellation. This is sad, but not that much because I am use to it by now.

 

You made me mentally sing Iron Maiden in my head, and I am not particularly fond of their music, too cheesy for my taste.
However, this song is from an album that I really like. In any case.... how many cancelled Star Wars movies do we have by now?

That's such a wildly unfair metric to use. "They were maybe possibly considering at one point a trilogy of Kenobi films, so despite that project being turned into a limited series that was actually released, so let's count that as three whole CANCELLED movies." We have no idea if there was going to be a Solo 3. We have no idea how many movies were going to be in Benioff & Weiss' series, or if those concepts will ultimately be repurposed. The article that you didn't actually read also explicitly says that Waititi is still working on his film, so you can remove that one as well.

Like, c'mon. We are well aware of the false starts Star Wars has had over the past few years as Lucasfilm solidifies a plan going forward. You don't have to artificially balloon the number to make a point, especially considering how many hours of live action content we've actually received through movie-budget TV series.

 

The only new thing that article gave us was the knowledge that Waititi may also act in his proposed SW film as well as direct.

 

I DID say that the number can be inflated if we are strict, so I wasn't being unfair. Also, we know for a fact that Kenobi would have been a trilogy of films. It has been mentioned in interviews by Ewan McGregor. They had the basic storyline planned out for all three movies.

I am more than willing to wager a bet that Waititi's SW movie is never going to happen.

In any case, whether the number is 8 or 10 or 13 it really doesn't matter. We can just agree that ALL the Star Wars movies that have been announced since 2017, which includes however many movies B & W and RJ would have made, have been shelved, officially cancelled, or in development hell. This is still 6 years of announcing movies that don't get made.

 

All 3 news items were predictable, including the Taika news.

 

Sometime after Secret Wars I expect this to ramp up again so just a few years!
