I just heard today on ET that my favorite Evil Greek God Aries, God of War... his altergo has DIED!!! :(

According to ET, he died while shooting an Action (Martial Arts) movie in BeiJing, China.

He played Hercules (Kevin Sorbo)'s nemesis, yet he had a great sense of humor. He also played Xena's Love interest.

He died after a fall... (more later)

I am not sure if there is already a thread on this, but I've not seen one.

My favorite Hercules & Xena villian...
    *Sniff* :( :_|

What are your thoughts and condolenses?

Yeah, that's him. I didn't seen a thread on this, but it was more of a Saturday happening.. :(

I wonder, why they don't replace him with a Stuntman?

From what I understand it wasn't a stunt that he was involved in. He just fell from a height of six stories. He had actually just completed working on the film that was shooting in Beijing and was headed to Hawaii to film a big part in a new Bruce Willis film. I never watched Hercules or Xena so I'm not that familiar with him but I understand that he was quite popular and was a standout on both of the subpar shows.

J22, do you mind if I edit the title to clarify that it's not the director?

Isn't there a law that two actors can't have exactly the same name? Technically Smith is an actor as well as a director.

    *THUMP*

KJ slowly shakes her head and peels herself off the floor

    "Kevin. Smith. Is. Dead?"

KJ reads other posts and sighs in relief

"Oh, it's not KEVIN SMITH." Whew.

Too bad. That Hercules guy was hunky.

    Correction: It's Ares, NOT Aries...

I guess none of you watch Hercules or Xena, if you didn't know who he was. I watched Hercules from Beginning to End... he is a cool actor, and he will be greatly missed :(

    R.I.P Ares!

We're all pretty gutted in NZ. There's a thread in our FanForce.

He was actually also a brilliant comedian, a musician, and was heavily involved in NZ theatre.

If all you knew of him was his cheesy role in Herc & Xena, you never saw his full range of talents.

    More details emerged today, as a number of rumours had begun circulating;

Smith hit head several times in fatal fall
    19 February 2002

New Zealand actor Kevin Smith hit his head several times during a fall onto a stone floor in the accident which resulted in his death in China last week.
Smith's agent Robert Bruce said today he wanted to clarify the details of Smith's death on behalf of Smith's wife and family.

In China to film United States movie Warriors of Virtue II, Smith had fallen while climbing a tower at the CCTV Film Studios in the Hebie Province to check out some sets.

He "apparently fell several metres onto a stone base after hitting his head several times on the way down", Mr Bruce said.

Smith, 38, was semi-conscious when taken to the local hospital for a CT scan, after which it was decided to take him to the main hospital in Beijing.

"It was while at this hospital that Kevin fell into a deep coma," Mr Bruce said in a statement.

"After several days in the coma Kevin showed signs of recovery but unfortunately on the fourth day his body went into shock and he subsequently passed away on Friday (February 15)."

Earlier reports said Smith had been celebrating with the staff from Chinese production house Beijing Film Studio when the accident happened.

Mr Bruce said that because there were no suspicious circumstances and no post-mortem required, no police investigation was done.

Two of Smith's personal doctors flew from New Zealand to observe his treatment, but were not actively involved.

The New Zealand government was helping to return Smith's body and his family to New Zealand as soon as possible.

Smith, who was voted New Zealand's sexiest man last December, was about to head to the United States to film his first Hollywood movie, playing a navy man in the $166 million blockbuster A Man of War, starring Bruce Willis.

Smith had a string of television roles in programmes such as McPhail and Gadsby, Gloss, City Life, Lawless, Xena Warrior Princess, and Hercules.

He starred in the New Zealand films Desperate Remedies and Channelling Baby.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, and sons, Oscar, 11, Tyrone, nine, and Willard, three.
