If we make conservative estimates of Malak being 21 at the start of the Mando war (that lasting at least two years) and say, three years between that Revans war with the Republic (two years until he turns on Revan) and a year until KOTOR I starts, that makes Malak 29. Say Revan is at leat 2 years older than Malak, that makes him 31.

Just like Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War. Star Wars has an unfortunate penchant for inaccurate terminology.

Thing is, is that there really isn't much else they can call it.

Out of sheer coriousity, what the hell was the Hyperspace War?

Clone Wars was a war fought with one side using clones. The Galactic Civil War makes perfect sense: two factions fighting for control of the galaxy.

It's when the Republic fought the Sith Empire 1000 years before Exar Kun and KotOR.

Which makes sense, Revan depicted in every source as Malak's physical, spiritual, and emotional better; him having a couple years up on Malak to become the more seasoned Jedi Knight of the two is organic and plausible.

Right on the cusp of thirty-dom seems workable.

Quite possible. Take us back even further, and show us Vima at the height of her powers as a Jedi Knight, with Malak and Revan just beginning their rise to power.

Which is that Martha Stewartian Good Thing. The "technology-jump" thing, though, will probably remain purely a subjective artistic prerogative.

Much later than that. The Great Sith War ended in 3,996 BBY; the Mandalorian Wars started in 3,963 and climaxed in 3,960 BBY. The War of the Star Forge began the following year.

So...23 years before the Mando Wars, and 27 years before the next Sith War.

The second game makes clear, though, that the strife and infighting amongst the Jedi of the order more than earned it the name of "Jedi Civil War"...most of the Jedi who accompanied Revan and the Exile to Malachor V ended up turning against their brethren in a vanishingly short period of time, with Malak and the rest corrupting many, many more.

Because there was lots and lots of hyperspatial war going on...and...ships jumping to hyperspace...and shooting at each other before and after jumping to hyperspace...yeah.

(Historically? Probably had something to do with the root cause of the whole damned thing...Gav and Jori's grackafracking hamfisted "discovery" of the Empire. Followed by lots and lots of hyperspace shootin' and whoopin' and hollerin' and cussin'.)

The only faction to actively fight against the Jedi were Sith. People like the Exile were simply ejected from the Order; saying that's a Civil War is like saying each of the "Lost 20" incidents were Civil Wars.

The Sith Empire was discovered by Hyperspace navigators.

Star Wars naming conventions are something that should never be looked at entirely seriously. What catches on is what sticks. For example, do you call WW2 "The Great Patriotic War"? I don't think so.

The Jedi Civil War was viewed as a conflict between a Jedi Hero (Darth revan) along with his supporters and the mainstream Jedi.

Cool news- can't wait to have to distinguish between TOTJ: KOTOR, KOTOR-the comic and KOTOR- the game ;)

(and here I thought LOTJ is the main acronym of confusion... ;) )

I think it'd be smartest if it does bridge TOTJ and KOTOR- that way the series could take one of Republic's current strengths, in that it knew where the story was advancing to, so they have KOTOR ot build up to, isntead of ROTS.

I'm glad Rebellion looks to continue Empire's story arcs, as it looks like that series was finally recovering from the awful "20 Marz" slump it hit and hitting a stride with Sunber. But, sicne things seem to be focusing on the Rebels more anyways, the title change makes sense.

I just hope Rebellion doesn't suffer from the cramped era problem that Empire did.

I'd also hope that's Kyle Katarn on the cover, meaning hopefully Strad has gotten over his fear of using old EU characters.

Is that Sunber on the cover of Rebellion? :D

This is good. I especially like how the KotOR series is using original characters, not just the ones from the games. It gives a lot more freedom to the writers. Plus, the series could add much to the lost plotlines of KotOR II. And if there's never a KotOR III... (I doubt it, though.)

Rebellion could be good also, as long as they stay away from the stupid "Heroes of Yavin have another adventure" storylines. Admitedly, the Jabiim arc is good, but in the past the Han/Luke/Leia stories haven't been as good as "To the Last Man" and "What Sin Loyalty." It would be nice to have stories that feature main characters (cameos, references, etc.) while not focusing on them all the time.

Remember, taht was Del Rey, this is Dark Horse. I've noticed that Dark Horse is a lot better at following the will of the fans then Del Ray ;)

But they'd still better have a continuing Republic series if they're continuing Empire

Well well seems the word on both the KOTOR and the Rebellion series was a slip. Someone erased the thread over at the Dark Horse boards.
