At what level of fatness does a man become physically unattractive? Homer Simpson fat? Peter Griffin fat? Jabba the Hutt fat? I am a 6'4" tall, 26 year old man and I weigh 285 lbs. Am I so fat as to be unattractive? If you saw me in the street would you point and laugh? Would you point and say "DAMN, THAT'S FAT!"? I would like to lose some weight for health reasons mainly, but also for reasons of vanity. I know being as large as I am that I am probably unhealthfully fat. As a fat man, I seem to want what I do not have, that is...abs that elude me. Am I being unrealistic? Would/do women still find a man attractive if he is fat like I am?

Generally, if you can't see your penis without a mirror and flashlight, you are too fat.

    I am a 6'4" tall, 26 year old man and I weigh 285 lbs.

    That's pretty big. I'm 21 years, 6'2" and 201.

But my sisters boyfriend has it worse--5'11", 18 years, and 250.

I think that as long as a man is at a healthy weight, it's fine. I believe that based more on health reasons, and not visual.

It depends on how solid you are. me I'm 5'5" and I weigh 200 lbs and I'm not fat because I'm pretty solid I just got to lose an inch or so off of my stomach and I'll be in good shape. But if your soft chances are you're considered fat, post a pic so we can tell. here's one of me

[image=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b361/saeseejim/me_and_johnny_fay.jpg] I'm on the right.I wish that was me on the left because I'd be a kick@44 drummer(not THE greatest drummer, but damn good)

I think it depends on what kind of build your body has.

I thought the average bathroom scale began to malfunction after 250...

If you are too fat for your scale, then I'd say you're going to have girl trouble.

Agreed. Weight alone doesn't mean anything; muscle is more dense than fat, so a person who's very muscular/athletic would have a high weight without being fat. Not all of them look ripped, either. It's also possible to have a sumo wrestler-style build that's mostly muscle except with a layer of fat on top.

I tend to think anything is okay as long as it's in moderation. In other words, if a guy's got a bit of a belly or a little flab here or there, it's okay, as long as it's not really excessive. An extra pound or two sitting on your stomach is fine, but being round enough to be mistaken for a pregnant woman is not. :p

I remember that. Marion and the pickle...

    On another note...
Yeah. It all has to do with body build. Muscle takes up less space than fat per pound, but is much denser. Weight ain't nothin' but a number.:)

Well, weight doesn't tell you everything. A muscular man will look much thinner than a man with a lot of fat, even though their weights are the same. Simply because muscles are much denser than fat.

I have a friend, who's 195 cm tall and weights around 100 kg (umm.... *finds an online measures converter* ...that's 6'5" and 220 lb). Now, when someone says "a 100 kg man", you generally imagine a man with a big belly. But my friend is 1) tall and 2) he's very muscular, so he doesn't even remotely look fat. He's actually very attractive. *mutters* Too bad he's already married... :p

I'm heavy set but not that heavy compared to others I've seen on the street.

depends if your soft or not, I looked really heavy almost two years ago and have dropped weight since.

staying away from McDonalds and fast food restaurants alike helps.

theres also being too skinny as well, my roommate for instance can't lift anything past 10 pounds and shes skinny as a tooth pick

I'll just second what others have said. A lot of it depends on build, although 285 is gonna be hard to pull off even at 6'5". I have a buddies that's that height and he looked his best at about 235, but he was solid. Now he weighs about 330, and no one is ever pullin that off unless their a linebacker, sorry.

I've always had a big build. I'm 5'11" and I weigh 210, but most people guess me to be about 190. I'm in the gym 6 days a week though. My brother is my same height and weight, but he carries all his in his gut, so he looks his weight ya know? I'm carry it all over. Even when I was skin and bones I was still 175, and becausemy hip bones are big I could never wear less than a 34 pant.

5 months ago I weighed 250, and that was just plain fat. No doubt about it, it does play a role in how people view you. You'll have to get by on more wit and charm if you stay at that weight. I speak from personal experience of course.

I'm 6'5 and weigh 200lbs. For a while I was at 235-245 and didn't look "fat" and thought that was as low as I could go but I didn't really look in shape either. Heard that I was just big build or whatever. You'd be surprised if you really watch your diet and work out how accurate those BMI indexs are. Now I'm still pretty muscular/toned and still only weigh 200. I'm wear a 48" suit/coat and a 34/36 waist pants so I'm no bean pole.
For your height and mainly for your health (cause the older you get the harder it is to lose) you should at least try to get to 240 or so to start with and see how you look and you'll prob notice a larger % of women noticing you to. (just the way society is)

    QFT.

Some people even look cute fat. My boyfriend is most definitely overweight and while I wish he'd lose weight for health reasons, he doesn't need to to look hot to me.

When you ask that question you run into another person's preferences. Some people prefer thin, some people prefer solid, some people prefer a person closer to their own height and size. You can't meet all those expectations; you only have one body.

The easiest thing to do is to go by the medical definition of "too fat". It's neutral to the dictates of fashion and has the promise of health benefits if you stay within those guidelines. The quickest measure for that is body mass index (BMI). There is loads of stuff about his on the web, but one online calculator is at:

    BMI

Normal, healthy weight BMI range is 18.5 to 25. From the numbers you have stated, your BMI comes out to 34.7. So, your doctor will tell you that you're too fat and need to lose weight.

If you say "I wish I were..." then you are talking about YOUR personal preferences. That preference will show up unconsciously in the way you talk, stand, interact with the world. That is where the problem starts. You have to turn that wish into action that gets you closer to the substance of the wish. Otherwise, it will always plague you.

that is very sweet of you--i wish more people had that mentality--it is really about the person you wanna be with and not how they look---when i got married to my wife she was
125 lbs and after our 3rd child she was over 230 lbs (she had gestational diabetes for all three pregnancies)---she was depressed about it and had a really low self-esteem but i always reassured her that she was the best think since sliced pie---she knew that my concern was for her health and not for her looks (her family has a history of obesity and diabetes) so now about after 4 years after she had our last child she is down to 145 and and her cholesteral levels are normal so we are both happy

BMI is only appropriate for the average person. That puts my boyfriend at a BMI of around 28, which isn't applicable, because we know from his doctor that he's at a healthy weight. Now, he's not a bodybuilder by any means, but he works out regularly and can lift a good amount, and even that's enough to skew his BMI.
