Discussion Lando Lando's not a TV Show, he's a FILM.

See I was figuring the opposite.

 

Especially because Andor was announced all the way back in 2018

 

I still think this is a 2025 release to mark the 35th Anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back.

 

Lando's future is cloudy with a chance of gas.

 

I would guess that there's not much attraction to this production. Favreau and Filoni are working to this cumulative event with all their series merging eventually, Headland has a free reign to explore a new (old) era, Gilroy basically created the Rebellion. Lando (or even a Solo series) is very much contained within itself, major characters but their story is really yet to come.

 

I think there would be more interest and excitement around a Lando series than a Solo series, personally. One reason for this is that the actor who now plays Lando is a huge talent and star. I would watch the series just to continue to see his take on an iconic character.

Lando the character also, I think, fits our contemporary time better than Han Solo. Han Solo was cool in the 80s, and what was cool in the 80s doesn't necessarily work well now. I think this was one of the problems with the movie; Solo just didn't really stand out as a character anymore, especially when not elevated by a star actor.

When I think back to the movie Solo, I can't think of much that really makes the character standout from the supporting characters, and when Lando enters the narrative, he brings life and charm that outshine Solo, and that shouldn't be the case.

It's not clear exactly how to update Solo for contemporary times. One approach would be to make him more contemporary, but that makes him more like Lando. Another would be to cast a star in the role, someone who elevates it and contemporizes the role simply from their own personality. This solution is likely impossible given the role has already been cast and KK feels that recasting Harrison Ford was a mistake.

So the only way forward at this time for this particular narrative area of SW is to have Lando lead things forward, perhaps with Solo at some point serving as an ironic sidekick. That could critique and ironize the 80s perception of cool (mostly a sarcastic white cis heteronormative vision of masculinity, which is largely toxic today) and provide some constructive satire and social commentary.

My own personal choice would be to recast Solo with a younger actor who fits better with the Gen Z perception of masculinity. Lando would serve him as more of a mentor in decadence rather than an inferior buddy.

 

I think the Lando show should just stand on it's own and not be propped up by legacy characters like Han Solo. I know Lando and Han are friends (sort of) but they aren't joined at the hip. Lando can have plenty of adventures without him and Glover is certainly a strong enough actor to carry a series on his own.

 

I agree Lando can hold his own without needing to have Han and Chewie. But it be niece to have them both cameo. Get Lando's mom in here.

 

I’d like to see a pre-Solo Lando story, beginning with his relationship with his mother on his home planet. Been intrigued by that backstory ever since he hinted at it in Solo.

 

Then we might begin during Prequels, as he is just as old as Anakin, and we see early rise of Empire and Criminal syndicates trough his eyes as he goes out to the larger Galaxy.

 

He’s three years younger than Anakin.

 

Lando is 33 in Solo, so 22-23 in ROTS. So it appears they are the same age.

 

Lando was born in 38 BBY while Anakin was born in 41 BBY. So three years younger.

 

Seems some sites go with 38BBY and 43BBY so get confused, lol. Been thinking that for while.

Donald Glover seriously looks like he just stepped off the set of the Lando series.

 

You know you want it.

Man, I would love to know the behind-the-scenes info about this show. Like, they did just basically randomly announce it at that somewhat infamous investor's show? Had Lucasfilm already planned out some story points with Glover? Did Glover approach them? Did they really want to focus on a Lando show, or was it just something to toss out there during that investor show?

Regardless, I hope it does happen. While I don't think we really ever needed a Han Solo prequel, and despite the tumultuous production of "Solo," I do think it's a fine, fun, Star Wars adventure film. That said, I'm good without ever seeing anything else about a young Han Solo...but Lando....Lando, as played by Donald Glover? Ohhh yess, that would catch my attention quite quickly, particularly if they can incorporate Billy Dee Williams in some form, too. Make it so, Lucasfilm, make it so!

 

Yeah, if Williams and Glover could both contribute, that'd be swell. Maybe with Williams doing bookends and/or voiceovers, from the "Calrissian Chronicles"?
