ST Laura Dern (Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo) in TLJ

Yep! I want this! I want her to be Mara Jade so bad! I seriously doubt it will happen though, but a guy can dream!

I reckon it would be cool to have her as a Knight of Ren AND Rey's mother - regardless of whether Luke's her father.

 

As someone who completely thinks Rey is a Skywalker I see nothing whatsoever of Rey in Laura Dern. Felicity Jones, however...



That's not Rey, it's a morph between Mark Hamill and Felicity Jones. Whoever Felicity Jones is playing though, I don't like think Laura Dern is going to be Luke's wife. Doesn't even look like Mara Jade.

I'm kinda wondering if she's the person that's looking down on the horizon. I mean we assume its Luke but it could be Laura Dern. I'm pretty sure if she is Rey's mom, they will do a lot with her in regard to flash backs and other things. If she's the new Mon Motha then we can see her and Leia maybe duel over the best course of action for the future of the Republic now that the explosion happened. Maybe she's a Churchill like character in this.

 

I have a weird feeling that Felicity Jones is going to end up playing the character who is Rey's mother and Luke's wife. I don't think we'll know it during Rogue One but I think she could be playing that character. There is no evidence. Just a hunch.

After Rogue One ends presumably with the rebels getting the plans. Cut to the Emporer, "Mara Jade, glad to see you made it out"

Felicity jones then tells the emporer what ship its on. Basically setting up ANH.

Why does every woman cast in a Star Wars movie have to be Rey's mother?

I'm still hoping Laura Dern is on the dark side and NOT Rey's mother (unless she is Snoke's daughter and Rey is Snoke's granddaughter, that I could get on board with!)

As for Felicity Jones, this isn't really the place to be discussing her, but I see no striking resemblance to Daisy Ridley, other than they are both very attractive brunettes. Besides, from ANH to Rey's likely birth would be a gap of around 16 or 17 years. For all we know Felicity's character might not even survive or might already have a love interest that isn't Luke Skywalker.

 

Also I doubt that Disney would care much about that sort of thing. It's not like there isn't a LONG tradition of filmmakers casting actors who don't really look much alike to play relatives. Case in point, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. Also, as has been pointed out before, Daisy bears more than a passing resemblance to Natalie Portman, Carrie, and Pernilla August.

 

If Daisy Ridley looks like anyone it's Keira Knightly, IMO. Now, if they were to bring back KK's character from the prequels in some form as Rey's grandmother, I would see the family resemblance.

That's definitely a striking resemblance for me, at least enough for a mother-daughter. And just watch an interview with her, she has the same accent Daisy Ridley has, that's what really sold me on the theory. Audiences are definitely going to e wondering. Not really the place to discuss Felicity Jones as you said...I just see it as way, way more likely that she is playing Rey's mother than Laura Dern.

 

To me, Felicity Jones looks absolutely nothing like Daisy Ridley. The only thing they have in common, physically, is being Caucasian, British and brunette.

 

And being really, really good looking.

If you dig for photos long enough, you'll come up with a few where they sort of resemble each other, because of angle, lighting, etc (though even in the above, I see very distinct differences). But it's far easier to find photos where they do not look like each other at all:

JabbatheHumanBeing Daisy's smile is very different (as it is very different from Natalie Portman's, Mark Hamill's, etc) but I still see a resemblance there. And it was pretty easy finding those comparison examples, I didn't have to dig for them. The first example of Felicity Jones was on the top row of Google Images. I compared two studio lit images. There are plenty of other examples I could find that would be just as good. Meanwhile, you're comparing a flash-lit image with a non flash-lit image.

Regardless, let's not turn this into a Felicity Jones thread...

 

Lighting aside, it's the shape of their faces, the position and shape of their eyes, their mouths, etc., that are all so very different to me. These differences give them both very, very different vibes.

But yeah. Let's stop.

 

Carrie Fisher is signed for VIII and IX, with expanded roles in each. Colin Trevorrow has already talked about wanting to delve deeper into Luke and Leia and using them more.

So as much as I love Dern's work, no to all this.

 

How do we know she is signed to have larger roles?

That sounds more like speculation.

 

I've made my thoughts on the "Felicity Jones is playing Rey's mother" idea pretty clear over on the RO thread (not a fan of it, it'd feel really contrived/a "connection" just for the sake of making one). It isn't needed.

As for Dern, another idea that I have is that maybe she's playing the leader of an as of yet unaligned/neutral planet or system, or faction, or whatever. And Leia and co go to her to try and get help/her on their side (since the NR government and fleet got blown up and The Resistance lost a big chunk of it's own fleet destroying SKB).

 

My money on Dern being in Dubrovnik this week.

 

That's why Luke went into isolation to run a Dinosaur theme park.
