Someone please grab a screen pic of Anakin's POV on the fall down from the speeder.

Those lights on the ground look like canals of lava...

or maybe I'm just crazy. :D

Everyone says lava..but I think it's street lights. The Mystery trailer and a scene of Anakin running along the streets of Coruscant...kinda hard with lava around. :p

I'd be worried about the structural integrity of the buildings if there was lava actively running against their supports.

    (sigh)

It's gotta be city lights as seen from miles away.

    Good try though Padawan. ;)

I think it's lava. It makes for a great power supply for a planet that would otherwise suck 95% of the Gallaxies natural energy resources. With out a natural resource such as rivers of molten Lava. Corruscant would be in debt to every energy manufactuer in the known universe.
It also ties in to the underground lava/ volcano lair of Darth Sidious. I have heard it speculated on these boards before that such a place exists. A place where two jedi might one day fight.
    from the OS Databank.

"In its earliest incarnation, the Emperor's throne room was not aboard the Death Star at all, but rather deep below a palace on the capital world, overlooking a lake of lava. "

Capital World? Sounds like Coruscant to me.

It looks like fire, not city lights.

If it is lava, well, who says that the SW universe has to uphold the laws of physics. it's fantasy afterall, anything is possible.

IMO, I think it's lava of some sort.
Whose to say the S galaxy doesn't have some sort of material that has a high melting point? And as a result they can build buildings, sidewalks etc. over the lava. Besides, Anakin running on the streets of Corouscant could have been anywhere on the planet where there is not lava. I mean 'the whole planet is one big city'

It looks like lava but isn't. It's just lights. Why would there be lava?

Seriously, real world physics are out the window, here.

The Republic has mastered intergalactic hyperspace travel, harnessed pure energy into weapons, built and maintained planet-sized cities, utilised microscopic cellular bodies to tune themselves into a mystical energy which allows them to read thoughts, levitate objects, and master the aforementioned energy weapons.........

    <takes a deep breath>

I don't think it's a stretch for them to have created building material that can withstand lava. :D

It also looks lava-ish to me, it could belights though, and i wouldnt rule out the possibility of it being some kind of reactor core or something of that nature, maybe a power generator.....we'll probably never know anyway...

    its lights.

think about it, if it was lava, it would melt those structure's foundations (i'm assuming not all structures on Coruscant float) and also it will be too hot to support any kind of life form--seedy or otherwise.

It could go either way but that was an interesting point. I never gave much thought to the power needs of a planet that is all one big city. Man I hope its electric and not gas.

Of course that view would have been from Anakins eyes whom as we all know can visibly see all the midichlorians as they streak by in the atmosphere.....ummmm ok maybe it is just lights.

To tell you the truth, I hope the final duel has nothing to do with lava.

Keep lava pits in comic books and crap like that.

They could have special durosteel that doesn't melt when in contact with lava. The flowing canals keep the city energy flow going strong.

Why not? If Yoda can force lift a crane, why can't lava flow?

Just a quick reminder: the ROTJ novelization never mentions 'Lava'...it just mentions 'Molten'.

So Anakin could fall into Molten Chocolate, or Molten Styrofoam, or Molten Molasses, etc. etc.

I for one prefer the geyser/steam style planet; that way you get your burning without a lot of 'how the hell [get it?] did he survive that?' debate
