Spoiler which means a birth of 114 ABY, also Marasiah I recall was said to be 15 or so at the same time. That doesn't tell us much about Kol's age-he doesn't look young but he isn't really old either.
yea, agreed, a very good quote I would actually be interested in this concept, h/e I must admit I do find this notion hard to believe considering what you find out in the Coruscant scene it doesn't? that's a little disappointing, it gave great insight to Krayt's thoughts in the opening
okay Issue 1, Part 2 3) the Coruscant scene it was great for story reasons moving forward, Krayt's reveal he's working with the Empire, the Empire in control, Krayt taking over as Emperor, Fel not being dead, the split Empire with Foal's backers and the ones that actual side with Krayt if I had one complaint though, everything is already set up it feels like, no story of Krayt working to take over, no falling of GA, no understanding of supposedly "good" Empire (Fel's real empire in regards to the fact that the Empire actually worked with Sith to kill off Jedi) the names of Krayt's companions are a mixed bag though, I got my name for the "white" Sith, Lord Nihl (love it), but Lady Maladi not so much (too on the nose and rhymey) Krayt's mysterious illness is very interesting, but Krayt's presence does raise a big question for me, how is he still alive since he was in FOTJ???? hopefully this will be answered at some point still, the board is set for what seems like a great ride!!!
Don't worry, there will be more flashbacks and exposition later to give more detail about the background. And sorry to say this again, but #0 set up a lot of that background too. Heck, this old RPG guide, the Legacy Era Campaign Guide, expanded that era by a huge amount. Too bad its long out of print but I still loved those old sourcebooks. And ignore Krayt's appearance in FotJ, FotJ was written years after this issue. All the problems from his appearance there are the novels' fault. The Legacy comics were planned out a lot better than the novels (and almost no relation despite both using the word legacy), which is one reason they have better writing too. And long life isn't exactly that hard a thing in Star Wars, with technology and Force powers and all. Although Legacy was intentionally vague on that sort of thing, which I don't mind for a new era. Although I do still kind of wish Legacy had been set a century later, but I can understand why they set it in this general time period.
I'm now thinking back to Troy Denning's talk of Legacy being "one possible future" in the FOTJ thread. I wonder - had the reboot not occurred, would more possible futures have been explored?
I can definitely blame the novels, OH I CAN!!!!! I thought about this, but I just would like to see at least some other characters still alive too then if that was the case, and I just sort of suspect he's the only one....
There will be flashbacks, or these questions will still be relevant in the present and answered satisfactorily. Also, remember that THIS was the first time the Sith came back, in release date. This was before Caedus... long before the Lost Tribe... KOTOR was just beginning (the comic)... it was actually controversial that there would be Sith, since they had been used such sparingly before.
Please note spoilers below do NOT read if you'd rather remain surprised! Cade's mother Spoiler prepare for your jaw to drop! Krayt Spoiler they do explain that and you find out he's a Clone Wars survivor who unlike Maul survived being bitch slapped by Obi-Wan! The Vong!
I pronounced it like malady, since it was an obvious take on that word. Some other characters and how I pronounced them are: Nihl was "Nile," pronounced like the beginning of the word Nihilism. Sia had a long I sound to rhyme with "buy a" from "buy a new car," unlike the singer Sia who pronounces it "see-uh" Treis Sinde was like "Trays Sind" except the end of Trays had an S sound rather than a Z sound. Gar Stah-zee Deliah and Jariah rhymed in my head. Deliah was just Delilah without the second L and Jariah rhymed with that. Roan was Rowen. R2-D2 I was never really sure how to say Calixte was Calleext Awe-strander but I think it might actually be Oh-strander?
Issue 1 of Legacy starts off unbelievably strong, almost like a soft reboot of the franchise but with many similar elements. Cade being thrown into a world of despair and darkness sets up the rest of his character perfectly, and hey at least its a Jedi Purge that isn't a Skywalker's doing again. Darth Krayt, oh the stories they'll tell you about him. His appearance in FOTJ was just shoehorned in, but everything else in this comic just elevated him to being one of my favourite Star Wars characters period. The story is primarily about the Legacy of the Skywalkers and how one lives with that burden, but I also see the story about Legacies for everything in the Galaxy being represented here. This is about the never ending Legacy of the Jedi and Sith coming back to haunt them, and Darth Krayt has his own Legacy on his mind. You will find out how he has lasted this long soon enough.
Thanks for this readthrough of Legacy as I have many fond memories of this series. This was probably my first ongoing Star Wars comic I got into so there's admittedly some nostalgia for me and overall I don't think it's as good as Republic or KOTOR. But despite it's flaws it was still a overall good series with mostly great character's and wonderful world building. With this being the farthest Star Wars has ever gone in the future I remember the possibilities seemed endless at the time and for the most part I think they got a lot that potential out of it . The side issues in particular that didn't involve the main cast were probably the best the series in my opinion with anything to do with Gar Stazi always being gold.
I always pronounced Nihl as 'Nil' (nill). Made sense given nil means zero, and Nihl's name obviously comes from Nihilism.
Oh, is Nihilism pronounced "nill-ih-ism?" I've pronounced it as "nile-ism" though Nihl as "nill". I reread all my Legends books somewhat recently and wanted to do comics next, but I did Legacy as a proper continuation to the stories in the novels before backtracking. I agree that there are issues with them, yet they bring together so much so well. LOTF and FOTJ brushed over the entire Yuuzhan Vong war, but Legacy (and Volume 2) included the Y.V. and random Force-related things very well.
Is there an easy way to read through this online or should I fork out for the TPB? Might read this when I'm done with NJO.
Pretty sure you can subscribe to marvel unlimited for a month and binge the whole thing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's nile-ism. Although nile is more two syllables than one. Unless The Big Lebowski lied to me. That's why I say Darth Nile.
I pronounced Wyyrlok as Wire-lock once, then I started pronouncing it as Weir-lock. I think it's open to interpretation though unless the authors explicitly state its to be pronounced one way or another.
Say some of these names out loud. You've probably never done it before! It feels really weird. I think I pronounced it somewhere between Weer-lock and Wurr-lock. Shae-doh Vow
