    Looking great ladies! I love to see all the pics and great versions out there. :)

    I'm also hoping to get a few shots with the fabulous R2 mailboxes very soon, though it will be with my v1.0 gown. But v2.0 isn't too far off, along with new boots and belt, while v1.0 will be classified as my ESB end gown.

    Anyhoo, keep up the great work, gals! :)

    Kay-Dee it looks like you had a blast! I'd love to have one of those R2-D2 mail boxes over here, but I doubt Aust. Post would do anything as exciting as that! What a great opportunity!

    I'm almost finished my dress, just the hems to go. I'm not quite sure what to do about them. I'm going to do a rolled hem on the sleeves, but due to the stretch, I can't do that on the skirt hem. I'm contemplating attempting a blind hem, but I'll have to have lots of practice before I do that! I'm going to the leather place next weekend, so I should have a new belt soon! I still can't get over how big my V2 belt is! There's at least 3 or 4 inches to come off it! :D I'm also still on the look out for white boots, hopefully I'll find some soon!

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/Last_Chael/Costumes/Princess%20Leia%20-%20Classic%20Senate/Version%20Three/ClassicLeiaV3002.jpg] [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/Last_Chael/Costumes/Princess%20Leia%20-%20Classic%20Senate/Version%20Three/ClassicLeiaV3001.jpg] [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/Last_Chael/Costumes/Princess%20Leia%20-%20Classic%20Senate/Version%20Three/ClassicLeiaV3006.jpg]

    I couldn't be happier with this new dress! I can't believe I didn't make it this way for V2! It's so simple and looks fantastic! I found the other one just had too much fabric, so it was literally a white, shapeless sack. This dress is a lot more flattering, and actually gives a really nice shape. I was starting to hate wearing Classic Leia (even though it's my signature costume) but now, I can't wait to wear it again! :D

    Abi, Spendless and Target both have the same white knee high boots at the moment. They are $10 cheaper at Spendless though. They aren't perfect, but they are the closest thing I have seen in years of hunting for flat white boots.

    Strathpine shopping centre has a Spendless Abi, if you feel like trekkin out this way ;) I'd check it out myself for you, but you know... Work...

    Thanks Alison! They're white! :D I shall have to check out the shoe stores in the city, I'm sure one of them is a spendless. The hardest part is finding flat white boots! Hopefully I can find them! :D

    Abi, which is the Spendless in the city? I know there is the Payless near the QBD in the myer centre, but I can't remember where the Spendless is [face_worried]

    They have tiny heels but you can see that they look okay ;) Not bad for $40! :)

    Yeah, I know I've seen spendless elsewhere as well - possibly the Hypermarket - I know that Strathpine does have both Spendless and Payless though. Payless is usually pretty useless :p Although the Payless over at Toombul used to be really good for stuff.

    Your dress looks great! You might as well have fun wearing it for the 30th anniversary huh?

    I personally think a bind hand stitched hem is the way to go. I think it is easier than trying to do a rolled hem on the machine! It just takes a little time. Sit and watch TV while you do it. :) Make sure your stitches are not too tight by stretching your fabric out periodically to loosen up the stitches. Practicing on a test scrap first if you've never done it is a great idea too.

    Thanks! I think everyone should hunt down the mailboxes in their city and take a photo with R2. It would be fun to see everyone's photos! Someone in San Jose took this great photo with their Jawa Costume.

    The mailboxes are only going to be up for about 3 weeks. It is a promotion for the SW stamps that are being released on March 28th (so I hear).

    Dawn, hurry and finish so you can take a photo with R2 too! :) I forgot, are you going to CIV? Some of us have been talking about trying to get a Classic Leia photo shoot while we are all at the convention.

    Thanks Kay-Dee :D I'm sure I'll be getting lots of wear out of it this year.

    I think you're right about the blind hem. I hand stitched the hem of my V2 dress and watched about 10 movies I think it was! :p Thankfully V3 has less fabric! I'll see if I can sew while I catch up on uni readings, if that doesn't work, I can catch up on Heroes and BSG :D

    That Jawa is just the right height! I'd love to see people's photos with R2! Do you know what will happen with them once they're taken away? It would be such a shame for them all to be destroyed.

    The picture from San Jose with the Jawa is adorable!

    I don't know where an R2 mailbox is but I bet Chicago fan forcers would know. I'll have to ask. :)
    Alas, I'm going to miss CIV but I'll be at D*Con. :)

    Sorry, I know this is straying a bit off topic, but is there a thread on the TFN boards about the R2D2 mailboxes? There is one in my city, but the person didn't put where it is.

    Thanks.

    Siri, I don't know of a thread for the mailboxes. All I've seen is the US map. *shrug*
    My husband found one near his office so maybe I can get a picture with it. :)

    So I found some flat white boots on ebay:

    [image=http://www.cutesyshoes.com/ebayauctionimages/tope05_whitepua.jpg]
    [image=http://www.cutesyshoes.com/ebayauctionimages/tope05_whitepuf.jpg]

    It appears that the thing making them 'slouchy' is the strap/buckle thing (at least I'm hoping that's all :p ). If it's easy to remove then maybe they will stand up pretty straight. I ordered a pair to play with and I'll let you guys see if I can get them unslouchy-cized.

    If anyone wants to look at them on ebay (they have lots of them still) they are listed as 'COMFY FLAT Buckle Design SLOUCHY Boots WHITE' by CutesyShoes. For the relatively cheap price (around $30 with shipping) I thought they were worth trying out. :)

    Well, I guess we could start one here. It wouldn't hurt! I see there is one in the collecting forum, but if most people are like me this is the only board (and my local fan force) that I really visit.

    This is probably the best place to post this, but apparently Sideshow Collectibles is having a "Leia Buns" contest, where people try to come up with the most creative ways to make Leia's famous hairdo:

    http://www.sideshowtoy.com/behindtheshow/?p=2826&source=032207newsletter

    Also, they will be taking Priority Pre-Orders via internet and by phone for their upcoming 12" ANH Leia figure tomorrow for their newsletter subscibers and Sideshow account holders from 10 am - 12 noon PST. You must be registered by 11:59 pm tonight (PST). Accessories include: E-11 blaster, her famous Tantive IV blaster, and Death Star plans. The Exclusive version also includes a pair of wrist binders.

    Info about Priority pre-orders:

    Obi-Dawn, I couldn't see your pictures, but these sound like the same boots I bought. I don't think I can get them completely straight (there is some gathering), but I still think they look good. It is easy to take the top strap off and you can probably cut off the bottom one; I haven't taken that one off yet. I've worn them a few times and they are very comfortable.

    Thanks for the heads up about the Leia doll JedHead1. That one totally slipped past me and I didn't know about her until I read your post. I think she looks great. :)

    Leia1138, cool! I'm glad you like the boots and think they're comfy. So there is some stitching that makes them slouch, huh? Hmmm. It'll be fun to play around with them and see what happens. :)

    I agree with a lot of the comments left on that Sideshow doll - the dress is poorly made, from an unsuitable fabric - the belt could be smoother (looks like it just came out of the mold), and I don't think the buns are big enough either. They got the eyeliner under her eyes right, but then they also red-rimmed them too so she looks ill! Weird!

    Yeah, after taking a close look at all the pictures of her I agree that they didn't do a very nice job with her dress. I have plans of grandeur that I'll be able to make her a new one when she arrives.

    Her boots look cool though. :)

    Actually, now that I see them, they are different from mine, so yours may not have the gathers. I also got mine from Cutesy Shoes. I think your boots will look great!

    My husband collects the 1:6 scale action figures and the poor man got quite the gasp and rant when he showed me the preliminary sculpt. The dress is terrible and the make-up is just off. The only thing I liked were the boots. He keeps telling me to have some faith, and reminds me how ugly the Hasbro figure is (it is scary-ugly). Oh well, she is already ordered. :rolleyes:

    They should hire some of the super-talented folks over in the Padme/Leia dolls thread to work on this stuff.

    Laurie Leigh on ebay, I've admired her repaints a long time, sells a DVD on how to repaint doll faces. Her name on ebay is beautifulfaces. Her website, which I found through padawan's guide or via someone else I found on padawan's guide, is:

    http://laurieleighart.com

    I use fabric paint right on the vinyl skin, right over the original paints, and have had good results with no problems. This doll will be getting the works! I've even used fabric paint to build up plasticized hair that wasn't full enough or had the wrong shape. Patience is the only requirement as dimensional fabric paint tends to settle by almost half when dry.

    Dress is CRAP, but boots are cute. No front middle seam on boots though.... but a fine point black sharpie pen would deceive the eye.
