Agreed, I do hope it's still ok to say "The PRINCESS has personal flaws" [face_plain]. I just want to stick to the discussion of this thread

Talk about her personal flaws all you like. I just think it's better to steer clear of the physical flaws. I'm sure no offence was meant, but not everyone finds that kind of thing humorous and we need to consider all of our posters.

Thank you. Scrutinizing Leia as if Carrie Fisher were a piece of meat instead of a human being is creepy and wrong.

As far as personal flaws...I never saw her being impulsive or overly emotional, which I appreciated.

I suppose the argument could be made that she was short-tempered like her father before her, but she never let it get the best of her. She always got **** done anyway.

"Would somebody get this big walking carpet out of my way?"

Yeah, this one always stuck in my mind as a kid. I appreciate the no-nonsense personality, but that was just rude.

I usually think her snark is warranted given that she is so often surrounded by idiots, but I agree there, Chewie did not deserve that.

Mod edit: I've asked nicely more than once. Now please let this go with the meat and the prunes and whatever else.

The walking carpet line along with Fly Boy and the Luke height thing are all symptomatic of Leia's belief that almost everyone is really just an inconvenience, interfering with her task of single handedly saving the galaxy. In the early stages of the trilogy, that was her flaw. She was TOO independent. She wouldn't allow anyone in to help her. Han was the same, but for different reasons and in different ways. All he needed was a blaster and some credits (and a Wookiee). This is why I like Han and Leia's relationship so much. They are so different, but at the same time very similar, and they grow as characters because of each other as the trilogy progresses.

I think she was extremely stubborn to let her home planet of Alderaan and people be obliterated all in the name of politics. A little bit more compassion and obedience would have left a better signature on her name. I guess she inherited her father's darkside.

Even if she'd blurted out "no, it's not Dantooine, it's Yavin" after Tarkin's comment about how Dantooine is too remote - I doubt very much that it would have changed. Yavin is also very remote - remoteness is necessary for Rebel bases in the first place.

Yeah, Alderaan was getting blown up anyway. And that was 100 percent Tarkin's fault.

And she would have made a pretty terrible leader if she were meek. Meek people rarely accomplish much.

Just to clarify, I wouldn't have a problem if she was speaking about an animal. But as a kid, when watching the movie for the first time, Chewie is not introduced as a dog (even though the affection is similar) nor is he a primitive. He's another sentient being and we learn to accept that reality. Leia is a princess, a galactic senator and one of the good guys. Her sudden remark towards Chewie just comes out as, well, racist. It's no different than that one Imperial calling him a "thing".

Scrutinising her as a racist, is pretty accurate. Also her condescending tone towards men, makes her come across as sexist as well.

I'm pretty sure Leia's tone would have been just as "condescending" if Luke & Han had been women.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not excusing her. That was out of line and certainly not her finest moment. I'm just making the point that it's indicative of a wider frustration with ... pretty much everyone.

Right, she doesn't know Huey, Dewey and Louie from Adam. Once she gets to know them, she never insults them again. Well, she calls Han a Nerf Herder. But only in a fit of anger. Han, meanwhile, calls Chewie a fuzzball and Threepio both professor and goldenrod.

But that doesn't give her an excuse to insult them in the first place, especially since she was not familiar with them.

My amusement gives her an excuse to insult them, and to call Chewie a walking carpet.

There is no law that says one cannot insult someone verbally. I can insult anyone I choose to, if I think they are deserving of it, regardless of how well I know them. That's just my nature. In Leia's case, she's in a foul mood and there is no time for pleasantries.

    Are you serious?
What was she supposed to do?

Fall to her knees and cry?

Plead, "Governor Tarkin, no - not Aldaraan. It's Dantooine, Dantooine...please, no, spare my planet"?

Oh, wait - she did "give up" the name of the rebel planet and Tarkin decided base or no base, it was too remote to serve as a target. Seems that decision rests on his shoulders, not her mouth.

I'm deadly serious, and inadvertently you have exposed Leia even more... She deliberately lied about the rebel base, and she didn't care if it brought about the genocide of the people on the planet Dantooine. Tarkin knew she was a liar, therefore leia was solely responsible for the genocide that took place with the destruction of Alderaan. If Leia had given up the whereabouts of her criminal rebellion friends, it would have saved her home planet. In other words...Leia was willing to let the genocide of both Dantooine and Alderaan happen all in the name of protecting her treasonous rebel friends. I don't think the actual words exist in the English language to describe such evil. I guess that's what happens when a ..... .. .. ....... :leia: [face_cow]
