Leia has had many opportunities to develop her Jedi talents. Luke has tried to get her to train with him numerous times. But she always had something that she felt she needed to be doing instead- NR politics, family, the refugees, etc. Now these were all worthwhile pursuits. But had she really wanted to learn the ways of the Jedi, she would have found the time. I think she's always been a little afraid of becomming a Jedi. Whether that has anything to do with Vader being her father, I don't know. Now I'm not bashing Leia. She's one of my favorite characters. As with all beings, she's not perfect. This is one of her few "flaws." With the direction the NJO is now taking, I'd like to see her make the time to become a Jedi Knight. The New Rebellion will be able to use all the Jedi it can get.

As Luke has stated and as Leia herself has stated, she is a Jedi. ;) But I do agree that I would like to see her take a more active role as a Jedi or to at least use some of those skills. The NJO has been taking this route a bit lately, which is much better than the beginning of the NJO which had basically demoted her.

Wow, this place was revived, two months ago, I would have been so angered at this Mara bashing, but I don't seem to care anymore. She's still my fav. character and reading all of this just kinda gets me grinning. :D

But also some of these posts by Shelly are scary...

Well it used to be that I disliked Leia very much, she was ok in the movies, horrible in the earlier in the EU, but not she's come out shining in the NJO, especially in RD. *gasp* I think I'm actually beginning to like her!

How come, in the original trilogy, everyone can sense Luke's strength, but not Leia's? Vader freakin' had her apprehended 'n everything! Was that a continuity error on the film-makers' part?

This is a good point. But, maybe we'll understand it better after AOTC. That's just a thought, tho. Because, the Jedi have been meeting with Palpatine, and he's a Force user. How come they don't sense him? And, Qui-Gon had to test Anakin Skywalker's blood to find out how powerful he was. Couldn't he simply have sense how strong the Force was with him?

Maybe is also deals with how one uses the Force. Leia wasn't aware of her abilities, and didn't become aware of them until ESB and ROTJ. Perhaps, because of the ignorance, she could not be felt in the Force.

That wouldn't, however, explain Palpatine - unless he's clone, which is an ongoing theory.

    I didn't even think about that! :D

So, Vader and Palps can all sense Luke, but no one can sense Annie? [face_laugh]

And, yeah, that whole Palpatine going undetected thing has me wondering, too.

I still say the Force blocking theory isn't a bad one.

Though I do find the cloned Palpy theory interesting as well.

Despite anything I may have said before, I'd say that Leia is a stronger woman, and one I'd rather have by my side. However, I think that in a fight Mara would kick her ass.

I think Mara would win. Dont get me wrong, Leia's a hell of a fighter but Mara would win. Mara has been trained to kill people since her childhood, the Emporors personal assassin. Leia was brought up as a politician. Both are Jedi, but Mara is a Jedi Master, she ahs more training and experiance than Leia in IMO
