But you're forgetting that it's actually a binary. Male, and political.

I honestly may have misunderstood your original post. I was joking about how men are often seen as the default, with anyone not being male being seen as "different" and thus "political". Thus, the show is "political".

I know, ‘twas a little joke of my own. Though apparently not a very good one.

I don't really react to "assumed gender" jokes.

It's not the fact it's written by a woman that makes me cautious, it's the writer themselves. ANH was improved by Maria Lucas!

It's true that I don't agree with her politics, but it could still be a good series.

Look, if they’re going to get political, then I suggest they adopt the method employed by JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.Season 2 of that show was essentially about the protagonist, his Italian male and female lovers, his mother, his African American best friend and his chum the cyborg Nazi SS officer teaming up to defeat ancient Aztec vampire gods.

There’s definitely some kind of political message involved, but be damned if I know what the hell it is and who it’s attacking.

She said that about white females, not white males.

can’t we just go back to when there was no politics in Star Wars, you know when it was just Rebels fighting the space nazis :p

It was better than Canto Bight ÷_÷

I'm not going to deny that politics have always been part of SW. The difference is, once upon a time they were done well.

Can I crack under quarantine cabin fever and kvetch about a silly thing?
does anyone else get a bit annoyed when they're referred to as "a female" and internally imagine it delivered with the contemptuous tone of "a FEEEE-male reeeeee" like we're some separate invasive species

(I mean it's fine if my medical team says it but when it's coming from LeRedditor88 it's usually indicative they have a... certain disposition, if years' experience have informed me)

like just say "woman/man-centric" or "headlined by women/men" to preserve some humanity for us all

(OP I know you borrowed the wording from the article itself so I'm not blasting you for the thread title! I'm just worn down by the resentful kneejerk complaints of how dare we occupy any physical or print space AGAIN)
Okay thanks and happy National Pretzel Day to everyone posting from the salt mines! :*

well, in my opinion including more women characters in central roles and more woman in the writing, directing, creative process is an example of politics done well, it’s just giving fair opportunities to people

going back to when female characters were mostly secondary characters, few and far between, and really no women were involved in the creative process is politics done wrong, because it’s excluding people

You're absolutely right, but I do think this announcement is stranger than it seems at first glance.

The title may seem clickbait-y, but I suggest you give this video a watch.

As long as them being well written characters comes first (as it should with a character of any race, sexuality or gender), I'm all for it. I guess I'm just weary after the ST's mess of a protagonist.

To be perfectly honest, i watched his youtube video's and he just sound like entitled amn baby who wished for GEorge back , never mind KK was handpicked by him. He always cries when something about KK but if it is GL he shuts up. He defends the most toxic fans actions. I'm not saynig he's as bad as Jeremy but he he's not good either he's in between bad and ok.

First of all Rey is good character in the first two ST movies , it is TROS that damage her a little and that's because of fan backlash for their fan tears for Luke.
